Overwhelming majority of customers doesn't even know they can care. And most of them wouldn't anyway. So your vote doesn't matter to anyone but you, sadly.
rplnt··on Blue Origin's New Glenn blows up during static fire test
> This theory appealed to SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who was asleep at his home in California when the rocket exploded. Within hours of hearing about the failure, Musk gravitated toward the simple answer of a projectile being shot through the rocket.

Man, the signs were always there, right? I think I only fully realized it in 2018 during the cave "incident".

rplnt··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
That's the distinction I was trying to make - looking for an answer vs. looking for some content on a website. There's overlap in those, and we used to use the web search to find answers, but you can't use chat to search web.
rplnt··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
Yes, significantly, but not recently. It can't search anymore. Like literally, it can't. You cannot reach a web page you know exists, like you used to.
rplnt··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
> It messes up sometimes (very rarely)

I don't believe this for a second. It has constantly the worst output of any serious AI I've seen, by far. It's laughably wrong sometimes, usually just wrong. It can usually cope with mundane keyword searches where it's still better to just read the wiki blurb, because even those can be mangled.

rplnt··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
So you are not actually searching for anything on web. This is more about using google as a web search engine, something it could do maybe a decade ago.
rplnt··on Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash
> there doesn't exist any situation, in any plane in any conditions, where holding the stick back the entire time would be an appropriate input

What about the Boeing crashes?

rplnt··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
You say "normal" and then add the other paragraphs, which are very clearly not normal. Common maybe.
rplnt··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
Why do you think they are arguing with you instead of adding to your comment?
rplnt··on Microsoft starts canceling Claude Code licenses
Slightly related (me not understanding) is why the Copilot in VS code is essentially just CLI interface. Why can't it use the IDE tools (search, LSP, ...). All it ever does is trying to execute grep.
rplnt··on Python 3.15: features that didn't make the headlines
AI benefits from tools to verify its halucinations. That's much easier in a typed and compiled language. Then have a language that can't be monkey patched at runtime and the confidence increases even more.

If you mean "easy to get something out of it" then yeah, it's great.

rplnt··on Google officially announces that ads will be included in AI Mode search results
You can label the whole output, every time, right? May include sponsored content or something.
rplnt··on We're testing new ad formats in Search and expanding our Direct Offers pilot
That doesn't solve this particular problem. Your local model was trained on reddit comments written by bots.
rplnt··on I’ve joined Anthropic
Why was the informative title updated to this, sorry to say, shit? Not every client displays arbitrary parts of the paths. Not even inquotes to distance it from the submitter. 0/10 improvement
rplnt··on Zed Editor Theme-Builder
It doesn't crash. Just the UI is completely unresponsive until I switch to another app and back. It's weird.
rplnt··on Zed Editor Theme-Builder
Tried it for a first time and it took five minutes for a major bug to appear - UI fully freezing. I thought it was only scrolling that froze at first, but tried it again (easy to reproduce), and it's the whole UI. Switching apps makes it work again. Haven't seen this behavior in any other app.

When trying to report it, I was presented with a form longer than my tax returns. Bug reporting seems like a good place for an AI. Both for the input and later categorization.

rplnt··on Valve releases Steam Controller CAD files under Creative Commons license
That's not the problem. Valve enabling people selling them for real money is.

Example from quite some time ago: Avast buying AVG. The value of AVG was around twice that of Avast.

> Are those 9.7k real users?

I don't quite get this stars and users connection. The stuff I use, I use, I don't need to star it. The reference is saved somewhere else. I bookmark, which is what the star is, stuff that seems interesting. So basically star for me is that I don't actually use the project, most of the time.

And yes, I glance at stars for a popularity cutoff, but forks, PRs, issues are much more telling.

rplnt··on Ghostty is leaving GitHub
Github is going around boasting how many PRs they generate a day with Copilot with very limited human input. Whether that's true or not, it might have effect.
rplnt··on Live Nation illegally monopolized ticketing market, jury finds
Dinner reservations is a weird one. I have never heard of this concept where they would id you while you are being seated. Maybe there are super exclusive restaurants I'm oblivious to? But even so, roughly 100% of dinner reservations can be implicitly transferred.
rplnt··on Škoda DuoBell: A bicycle bell that penetrates noise-cancelling headphones
What do you call it when a car manufacturer has a little bicycle division? Is it still greenwashing or is there a more specific term?
rplnt··on Opera: Rewind The Web to 1996 (Opera at 30)
It wasn't about keeping up. It was 100% about Google putting billions in advertising and abusing their dominance. Besides legit stuff like paying millions or more likely billions for billboards, spots in tv/radio/etc... there were monopoly "ads" on google.com, gmail, com, youtube.com homepages. And of course the classic of blocking features based on user agent alone, lying to people they need to use Chrome to access a product or a feature. They just needed to manipulate the masses and now almost everyone uses browser from an advertising company and they can keep pulling the rug.
rplnt··on Opera: Rewind The Web to 1996 (Opera at 30)
Thanks Chrome for ruining web in yet another way. LRU is THE default for virtually every windowed and tabbed application, then Chrome comes and fucks it up. Now we have a video talking about a "fix", and likely not a single user in Vivaldi even using the default (because they would notice it's broken). Kinda hilarious.
rplnt··on Opera: Rewind The Web to 1996 (Opera at 30)
Switching tabs doesn't work like you would expect in Opera for example. The order of tabs gets shuffled randomly. It's completely broken. I downgraded to a version where it had worked, stuck with that for a while. When I complained about it people usually say "just use it like chrome where you can't switch tabs properly anyway lol". It was reported with the precise version that broke it. Vivaldi team asked maybe twice on social media, but then it was just tumbleweeds. It's 100% reproducible with a clean install, on both windows and osx. I gave up and preach for people to just stay away from that browser.
rplnt··on Opera: Rewind The Web to 1996 (Opera at 30)
Unfortunate that they can't fix tab switching they broke 2~3 years ago. It's fully broken, on every platform, one of the main interactions with the browser. Doubt there's actually "a team".
rplnt··on Opera: Rewind The Web to 1996 (Opera at 30)
It's a cool idea, but major bugs are being introduced and then ignored. Virtually unusable and I would not recommend it.
rplnt··on I was insulted today – AI style
That's kinda unfair until we have a device that can translate thoughts to writtrn text. Both from time and energy perspective. Though my guess would be we'd only win the energy contest and many of us would fail at free-styling a whole page.
rplnt··on Claude Code daily benchmarks for degradation tracking
