rozim··on "Home-made" Submarine
I thought another future idea was to attach some sub-like vehicle to something like a cruise ship and hitch a ride & hide in its "shadow". At some destination, maybe a port of call, frogmen secretly release it.
rozim··on How cost-effective is it to make pantry staples from scratch?
Check out pain à l'ancienne, the cold fermented baguette from Peter Reinhart in The Bread Bakers Apprentice. Several people who have tasted this say they can no longer eat store bought bread and it's amazingly easy to make.
rozim··on Joel on Solid State Disks
They should try distcc
rozim··on Duck Duck Go Architecture
I must have missed something - what technologies are behind the actual search? Lucene/Nutch/Xapian?? thx, Dave
rozim··on Colorado Backyard Yields Cache of Stone Age Tools

rozim··on Ask HN: how do you discover new music?
Anyone remember Firefly from the late 90's? I got some great suggestions that I'm still listening to - B-Tribe I believe.

rozim··on Google: Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population
Executive summary: Use Seagate drives.
rozim··on Journaling: a better UI metaphor than files/folders/desktops?
Give the user multiple ways of accessing information, not just one.

Remember this acronym: LATCH

Location / Alphabetical / Time / Category ("tag"?) / Hierarchy.

http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=130881&s...

It's a good mnemonic for GUI design - get a GUI up then consider LATCH and add another path or view of the info.

rozim··on Need Help in Designing Ranking Algorithm
It would be interesting to hear you enumerate all signals you're considering, as one part of the problem will be to consider what other signals should be used.

Also, do you need the formula to be resistant to spam?
