royalghost··on 2017 Was Bad for Facebook. 2018 Will Be Worse
i only compared facebook with tv yesterday when i read the other news on how one of the previous executive of fb was feeling "sad" for how facebook is gaming our life to make it more addictive...but there is limitation to television and at that time you could not take tv in your pocket so it was limited to your home

also tv is a one way broadcasting system when facebook is like 2 way system ...

royalghost··on 2017 Was Bad for Facebook. 2018 Will Be Worse
I uninstalled the facebook app from my mobile and only use once in a day for about 10-15 mins in the evening to get update on web. This has become very effective and I still keep update with some of my friends/relatives there.

I think facebook has to do much larger research on the impact it is having on wider group of people and not just in western world in terms of politics, news, kids, humans behavior, etc. I have seen people spending hours and hours of unproductive time on facebook in very poor and developing countries where the same time could have been used for more useful stuff.

royalghost··on How to design a web page like this
Yes, I am interested to know not just the UI but the algorithms and data structure used behind the scene.
royalghost··on What it’s like remote working in Nepal
It is great to see the discussion going on regarding working remotely from Nepal. I think Nepal has a great potential of attracting nomad techie from around the world if there is sufficient infrastructure such as electricity, good roads and enough legal provision. It is good that the country is heading to that direction.

regarding the rubbish, there are rubbish in any big city in the world. I now live and work in Toronto, and some part of Toronto is worst than Kathmandu. While Kathmandu has many areas which are much cleaner and better than some parts of Toronto.

I also bootstrapped my company https://www.techinasia.com/merocampus-online-marketplace-col... living in Nepal at my parents home.

royalghost··on Ask PG: Postmortem of the outage?
I am sure pg is going to write an essay on this :-)

royalghost··on Ask HN: Do you work part time gig while bootstrapping your own startup?
I agree with your point of working full time will make you 10x more focused. The other important thing when you are at your very early stage of product development is not to be distracted by other stuff like how you are going to do marketing, scale, etc. etc.
royalghost··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (November 2012)
SEEKING WORK, Kathmandu, Nepal, REMOTE - http://www.linkedin.com/in/paudelp

I am a founder of Manaslu Technology. I am working on bootstrapping my startup doing a product development. As a part time gig, I can work on Ruby on Rails project for about 10 hours a week. Shoot me an email at paudelp[dot]gmail[dot]com, if you are interested.

royalghost··on Ask HN: Do you work part time gig while bootstrapping your own startup?
I think I can survive with what I have got for the next 1 year so I can focus on my startup. Yes, it's that little hope that keeps me focused and motivated too. But, I believe that it is worth putting more effort in the product development and worry less about marketing cost at this early stage. Anyway, how hard I try I cannot compete with big boys in marketing!

Thanks for sharing your experience.

royalghost··on Push, push, push. Expanding your comfort zone
I am the one who post this on HN. I got this through Twitter.

I think it is a great post esp. when I am also the kind of person who likes to do new stuff, travel new place and keep pushing my boundary.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

royalghost··on Marissa Mayer Employment Offer Letter
Exactly! I did.
royalghost··on Which is the best credit card processing service for an ecommerce site?
Thanks for your response. Users I am initially targeting are based in Singapore but eventually it should be able to cater people from all over the world, and the service I would like to use ( Stripe ) is from US. That means there is a lot of hidden charges incurred while converting SGD to USD by the customer bank based in Singapore ( or in other countries. ) Therefore, the most important parameters for me is minimizing the charges and ability to expand to other countries.

I am a back-end developer but I found this tool very helpful if I need to develop any iphone app in the future. Great work!

I am also planning to develop some rails app and thinking if I should be using spinejs or not. Could you give some detail as how long it took to develop this app? How big is the team?

Thanks.
