> Apple users usually buy the new phone every gen, instead of every 3rd or 4th gen (Apple screens and batteries tend to die quickly);

This is unsubstantiated nonsense. The resale values of iPhones are indisputable evidence that you are full of it.

Your comments in this thread are beyond stupid. Everything you’ve said is the opposite of true.

roperj··on Ask HN: How do you see tech like ChatGPT changing the SWE profession?
Is it though? Is it any more trivial today to put together a CRUD+/line of business app than it was with VB6?

Excel is older than 15 years and still fulfills its niche just like always.

What were we doing 15 years ago that is trivial today.

Other than incremental productivity/Intellisense+ improvements (with a mixed reception) from Copilot I am waiting with bated breath to see this ML revolution of software dev. Unless this changes the market for ML engineer will be similar to that of compiler engineer - an essential but very limited market.

> not-quite-correct then refining it and fixing the errors is how basically everything is accomplished.

Not-quite-correct is a wordy misrepresentation when something is plainly incorrect.

In many fields being confidently wrong is how you get fucked over hard.

That ChatGPT will gleefully fabricate references like a schizophrenic is just more icing on this shit cake.

Youre commenting on an article where the answer was not even just a little wrong - it was completely wrong. Sometimes it’s “in the ballpark” - which is apparently t good enough these days - but often times it is just confidently entirely correct. How are you able to use such a tool as you propose practically?

This might make some sense if you knew what the hell you were talking about, but Hikvision and Dahua are not at all in the same market segments as Nest and Ring - and this does not apply to the consumer market.

> The variables on the stack are the most efficient after registers

Why are variables on the stack more efficient than other memory accesses?

roperj··on DVD sales surpass Blu-ray in 2021: Physical format market
> For most movies from the 80s and 90s it's not like you're going to notice a difference going to Blu Ray or UHD streaming.

Complete crock of shit. Movies from the 80s and 90s were usually shot on 35mm - DVD quality does not begin to extract the detail nor the dynamic range in these films.

It’s not a subtle difference.

And if bitstarving is an issue it’s usually going to be DVD. No amount of encoder magic can overcome MPEG-2 inherent shortcomings.

The original guaiac FOBT is a crude screening tool for colon cancer and never used for diagnosis in the strict meaning of the term (it’s somewhat sensitive and not at all specific).

It’s also confused these days with the more sensitive and specific FIT test. FOBT has no relevance in modern medicine.
