considering the timing of the post and specific emphasis on the pull requests, I can only conclude most of it was a direct result was probably from the linux kernel pull request debate. For an article talking about being cordial, it's a bad way to represent someone, especially with wrong context, and even more to bring someone like linus.
The only person who was the most cordial in the whole debacle on kernel tree was linus, esp. to the contributor. Now, after all the smearing has been done, just saying it's removed and should be good, is no way to handle it either.
I said all this because, I respect the work linus does and you do (i'm a python dev too, and use your work more than enough in my projects). It pains me to see someone like you to smear linus' name, and brushing it off saying it's not a important after damage has been done (not to linus, probably he'd not even care for this debate in the first place), and not even apologizing (i don't know, may be put a PS on the article or something).
Understanding you might be sensitive about negative criticism, I ask you to not take it personally. But, it pains me too see good developers talking about how to behave in OSS and then do the exact opposite, esp. from ppl I respect
reply to op: A gui which covers 80% cases is way better than doing everything from command line, saves a lot of cognitive overload. If it's one of those 20% cases, ya, please you can fall back to command line. No, guis are not developed for those 20% percent cases; even if they did, they usually are painful like commandline as well.
How much functionality, if you can make a guess, would you say is there in the codebase in cs?
second. it doesn't matter if ubuntu got the spotlight in your circles, other distros are famous in other circles. europe has good number of fedora/redhat and suse users
I read in some psychology article(I can't cite it now, I don't remember where it is), that being a night owl is an adaptation in hunter gatherer society for guardians of night. So, being a night owl is not that idiotic, it is a proper adaptation.
Also, if it is quiet enough for you to get to sleep at 9 or 10 or 11 in night (assuming you would get 7-9 hour sleep), then it is quiet enough to get the work done without distraction.
PS: That guardians of the night made me tingly when I read it, and SMUG. Didn't it to you? But also probably added to a selection bias to that research article.
PS: AGPL is the strictest GPL there is, like, LGPL is a looser version of GPL. It pretty much means, you give away almost all the stack. I don't understand the whole license, but I do know it's the strictest.
