rohitpaulk··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
Wonder what the non-compete looks like for a role like this. Will Sam Altman be allowed to create an OpenAI competitor right away?
rohitpaulk··on Build your own BitTorrent
This is so cool! Have you already hired people using this method? Or is this a new initiative?
rohitpaulk··on Build your own BitTorrent
We just shipped support for this last week! You should be able to edit the file now. We’ll remove the comments saying those files can’t be edited soon.

And for Go, there's https://github.com/chihaya/chihaya & https://github.com/cenkalti/rain.

rohitpaulk··on Build your own BitTorrent
Yep, "Seeding files" is an extension: https://app.codecrafters.io/vote/challenge-extension-ideas?c.... Not supported yet, but will be available soon (we add new extensions based on user votes)

Rate limits issue should be fixed now!

This should only affect C# repositories, and we're working on a fix - C# support is relatively new, and looks like there are some teething issues with the caching mechanism we use to run tests (we aim to keep median response times <3s).

(codecrafters dev here)

It doesn't, but will soon: https://app.codecrafters.io/vote/challenge-extension-ideas?c....

We release a set of "base" stages first, and then work on extensions based on demand. DHT is one of them, magnet links is another that folks have voted for.

rohitpaulk··on Show HN: I automated half of my typing
I once built a typing tutor that did something like this - it monitored all the mistakes I'd make, and would surface the most typo-ed words for practice.
rohitpaulk··on Ask HN: GPT4 and Voice?
The ChatGPT app allows voice recording, are you looking for something different?
rohitpaulk··on Microsoft has finally killed Cortona

rohitpaulk··on Show HN: I made an in-browser code editor with code replay and REPL
Repl.it uses Docker containers too, only recently started work on moving to better isolation mechanisms like VMs
rohitpaulk··on Has an API key issuer ever leaked customer API keys
Think this happened to Heroku recently, not sure though.
rohitpaulk··on Ask HN: What's your experience of value over cost of e2e tests?
I’ve found them incredibly useful when making widespread changes where it’s hard to predicts the effects - one example is upgrading dependencies.

We’ve been using a combination of playwright tests and Meticulous. Playwright tests for the areas where we want solid coverage and are willing to put in the effort. Meticulous for the areas where we want decent coverage but aren’t willing to spend the time writing tests.

rohitpaulk··on Show HN: DiagramGPT – Diagrams from code and natural language
Curious to know how the incremental rendering works under the hood. Is that just a UI trick? or is the LLM actually returning content that can be rendered incrementally?
rohitpaulk··on Ask HN: Which is the best programming book you've come across?
“A philosophy of Software Design”
rohitpaulk··on TPG/Francisco Partners acquires New Relic for $5B
“In talks to”, the deal isn’t final
rohitpaulk··on ChatGPT app for iOS
Only available in the US at the moment.
rohitpaulk··on Writing a SQLite Clone from Scratch in C (2022)
Did a version of this myself using Python, was a great learning experience.

I got hooked on the whole “build your own X” format after watching a pluralsight course called “Learn by building Redis with Ruby” by Xavier Shay - highly recommend.

rohitpaulk··on Program Repair
There’s a whole website that collates research related to automated program repair: https://program-repair.org/
rohitpaulk··on Ask HN: How to offer equity to founding team members?
The Clerky handbook is a good resource: https://handbook.clerky.com/formation/equity-allocation.
rohitpaulk··on Ask HN: How do you train developer fundamentals?
A book I’d recommend: “A Philosophy of Software Design” by John Ousterhout
rohitpaulk··on Is Heroku’s DNS down again?
Good find!
rohitpaulk··on Is Heroku’s DNS down again?
Interestingly, one of our Vercel apps was down too (got alerts for both app.codecrafters.io and codecrafters.io at the same time) - might've been a wider DNS outage? Resolved in 4 minutes for us.
rohitpaulk··on Launch HN: CodeCrafters (YC S22) – Practice writing complex software
Haven't been able to gather much from our logs - I've emailed you (used the email on your HN profile), will get to the bottom of this!

Thanks for the kind words!
rohitpaulk··on Launch HN: CodeCrafters (YC S22) – Practice writing complex software
We last looked at JetBrains academy ~6 months ago and at the time it mostly had beginner-level content. Looks like they've got some advanced content now, like this one: https://hyperskill.org/projects/112?track=2.

I'd consider them a competitor, and I like their approach - hands-on project-based learning with automated tests to guide your implementation.

I think the primary difference (aside from their content being slightly skewed towards beginners and the limited languages on offer) is that our format involves re-creating devtools from scratch.

Sarup touched upon this a bit here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32344751.

Summary: All the logos listed are genuine (i.e. engineers from those companies have signed up and used CodeCrafters). In most cases we've also spoken to these users either over Zoom or in-person.
