rohamg··on How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans From Tehran (2007)
Ok I agree with your point but bad example: America did not storm the embassy but did forcibly intern thousands of Japanese Americans in concentration camps. Also- its important to note a few things: 1) the embassy storming was carried out on a whim by one group of over eager revolutionaries, it was not officially sanctioned until it was a fait accomplie, 2) saying the 1979 revolution was a direct result of the 1953 coup is bumbling self centrism at best - a lot happened in the country over that period that culminated in the revolution. Which leads to 3) Khomeini was not the stated aim of the revolution- a democracy was. Khomeini and the Islamists hijacked the revolution and killed, imprisoned, or exiled all other parties involved until that point. They have maintained control since then with history's most sophisticated religio-political machinery combining censorship and xenophobia, police state security infrastructure, and a unique brand of divine mysticism. Fascinating and tragic.
rohamg··on Philip Roth: An Open Letter to Wikipedia
It's harsh but spot on. Difficult to understand why Wikipedia wouldn't clean this up and release an official statement.
rohamg··on Philip Roth: An Open Letter to Wikipedia
Marcus Aurelius and Phillip Roth's open letter in the same breath? You have cajones I'll give you that!
rohamg··on Meet the man who’s beating Airbnb in Europe
Deeper awareness, penetration and mind-share in its core market.
rohamg··on The Self-Destruction of the 1 Percent
Rephrase: with higher efficacy.
rohamg··on The Self-Destruction of the 1 Percent
You forgot consultants. Always have more consultants. And slides. Need them slides.
rohamg··on The Self-Destruction of the 1 Percent
Sometimes this is because of tenure / union issues. Which brings me to my point: teacher compensation shouldn't just be about attracting new people (what do we do with the old ones, ship em to Yemen?), it should also be about training, empowering, and incentivizing the existing cadre to perform to higher standards.
rohamg··on So I was doing an online order last night and I noticed something
And ebay has their partnership with MissionFish, which looks to be exclusive. I think it's a decent idea but the market's too small and the difficulty in doing it inhouse is not significant enough, especially for teams doing well enough to want to implement this program in the first place.
rohamg··on Show HN: Education startup with note-taking collaboration
Smart idea but some of the exiting note sharing platforms have been heading this way too. Interesting to see if an indiegogo funded startup can keep up.
rohamg··on Cuban missile crisis: The other, secret one
I didn't know that! One wonders what the hell they were thinking in the first place.
rohamg··on Show HN: We open sourced Lockitron's crowdfunding app
Nicely done guys. Someone fucked with the wrong hackers.
rohamg··on If You're Too Busy to Meditate, Read This
You donated to the westboro church?
rohamg··on How Jeff Atwood works
Ok- I would add "focused" to that list. If you're a 20 year old working on your first startup 100 hours a week then you may not need a to-do list for life (although you should certainly use one for your development!). For the rest of us, there is way too much that can possibly be done every day - and some framework for prioritization / tracking becomes essential.
rohamg··on How Jeff Atwood works
I'm the biggest advocate for plowing through every day like a tank but even I would be incredibly handicapped without a proper framework. My system is designed to keep all tasks and tactics out of my head so I can focus on strategy, vision, and execution. Folks who think they don't need a system are lucky, foolish, not all that ambitious, or have others worrying about the big picture of their lives/ companies/ industries.
rohamg··on Show HN: Lookmark, read what your friends are reading (for Chrome)
I think having public accounts or "topics" you can follow would be a great step to fill in the gap for folks without many (interesting enough) friends on the system

Well done Dave & team, looks and works awesome
