roflcopter69··on The Fairphone (Gen. 6)
Is it just me or does the discourse about a product like the Fairphone often feel kind of "culture war"-y? So many times I read comments where people are very upset and offended how a Fairphone costs way too much compared to other smartphones or how it supposedly is completely unusable because one feature does not work the way they expect. It's just strange. If you don't like it, don't buy it, no need to engage. But so many people seem to feel obliged to present their strong dislike for the Fairphone as if it's sole existence attacks them personally.

Genuine question, why should I use this to deploy models on the edge instead of executorch? https://github.com/pytorch/executorch

For context, I get to choose the tech stack for a greenfield project. I think that executor h, which belongs to the pytorch ecosystem, will have a way more predictable future than anything Google does, so I currently consider executorch more.

Funny, I was just commenting something similar here, see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44071614

And I say this while most certainly not being as knowledgeable as this openai insider. So it even I can see this, then it's kinda bad, isn't it?

I was just going to answer https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44071595 who mentioned exactly the same tweet.

I'm nowhere as good at my craft as someone who works for openai, which the author of that tweet seems to be, but if even I can see this, then it's bad, isn't it?

roflcopter69··on John Carmack talk at Upper Bound 2025
Honestly, having gone through the slides, it's a bit painful to see Carmack "rediscover" stuff I've learned in a reinforcement learning lecture like ten years ago.

But don't get me wrong! Since this is a long-term research endeavor of his, I believe really starting from the basics is good for him and will empower him to bring something new to the table eventually.

I'm surprised though that he "only" came so far as of now. Maybe my slight idolization of Carmack made me kinda of blind to the fact that this kind of research is a mean beast after all and there is a reason that huuuuge research labs dump countless of man-decades into this kind of stuff with no guaranteed breakthroughs.

roflcopter69··on I built a pixel art editor after playing Octopath Traveler II
Gave it a quick try and liked it so far. Of course it's still quite basic but a good start I'd say. Looking forward to seeing more features being added.

To anyone looking for a more feature packed pixel art editor, I highly recommend https://github.com/Orama-Interactive/Pixelorama which is free and made with Godot. I recently switch to Pixelorama coming from Aseprite because imo the development for the latter got a bit stale over the years while Pixelorama really seems to have a lot of momentum and community behind it. Also, Pixelorama being made with Godot is something I really love to see!
