what’s wrong with what he said? that he used atypical (but still perfectly correct) spellings of “learnt” and “thru”?

rnjesus··on Show HN: Neural-hash-collider – Find target hash collisions for NeuralHash
i did a bit of reading as well and came across this. you might find it useful or interesting: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2258A at the end (h1-4), it details that providers must preserve the information they submit and also take steps to limit access to only people who need it. in this sense then, it’s not illegal for companies to possess csam. it’s not a big leap to then assume that storing csam for the development of detection software is legal (or at least as been throughly cleared with the courts, which is about the same). photodna was developed twelve years ago, and i can’t find anything about microsoft ever being charged with possession or distribution of cp.

honestly asking — why is it illegal?
rnjesus··on Tinder will introduce voluntary ID verification to reduce catfishing incidents
hm, a fair and puzzling question. if you practice this strange magic alone, perhaps try shouting for your father’s spirit to descend upon you, loudly and repeatedly, and then report back your experience so i may add it to my research. (note: it might be best to open your door/window while you do this. being in the presence of others seems to make the ritual more successful)

humans must perform the “sex” ritual as a sacrifice to the stork gods, it seems. i’ve yet to determine why they often try to summon the spirit of their fathers repeatedly through incantation, though
rnjesus··on Once an Addict, Always an Addict?
this is how i’ve understood it to work, yeah. the “feeling” of the ir is much different than the xr (for me, that is). i’ve tried comparing the teva generics of each formulation, and the xr just didn’t last as long as two perfectly-spaced ir doses — about five hours for one xr dose, eight hours for two equivalent ir doses. i have a feeling that it’s a combination of manufacturing (as you mentioned) and body chemistry to a lesser extent. vvyanse seemed to work the best, but the 70mg capsules felt slightly too weak, and a month’s prescription for them is literally 9x the cost of the adderall.

lobby, or run for their office.

edit: er, i think i misunderstood your question.

rnjesus··on Once an Addict, Always an Addict?
for me, ritalin helped most with my focus, adderall xr helped most with my motivation, adderall ir helps me currently with my energy + motivation. i’d say adderall xr is the best of the three, though i prefer vvyanse — but vvyanse is prohibitively expensive, and adderall xr is 4x the price of the instant release. also, i had to take adderall xr twice a day; the “extended release” formulation only seems to add a few hours of duration over the instant release. i’ve yet to try dexedrine, but i’ve read good things about it.

overall though, i’d not rely on anecdotes about add meds. people’s experiences are vastly different in-practice, and the only things you’ll really find in common with other’s treatments are the more pronounced side effects. not to say that there’s anything wrong with asking for advice, just be sure to temper your expectations a bit based on what you read and try not to get too discouraged.

my advice is: if your doctor is willing, have them write you seven-day prescriptions for the different medications you’d like to try and see which one works best. keeping a short journal about sleep, eating/drinking, mood, energy, motivation, and productivity during this time also helps gather some perspective. when you find one that works, try it for a month, and then make a decision from there.

rnjesus··on In internal memo, Apple addresses concerns around new Photo scanning features
yeah, not sure where they’re getting that info from. neither apple’s child safety landing page nor the pdf info sheet they released mentioned anything about photos being saved. the eff say that the image will be saved on the child’s device for the parent to view later, but i can’t find a source for that.

from the eff page:

>…if the under-13 user accepts the image, the parent is notified and the image is saved to the phone. … once sent or received, the “sexually explicit image” cannot be deleted from the under-13 user’s device.

apple’s info sheet:

rnjesus··on In internal memo, Apple addresses concerns around new Photo scanning features
the imessage scanning is just to provide on-device warnings and blurring of photos that are suspected of being inappropriate. nothing is transmitted off the phone — parents are only given a notification (and only if their child is under 13, and only then if the child sends or replies to nude photos after being warned by the system)
rnjesus··on Apple Makes Magic Keyboard with Touch ID Available for Purchase
we know from tear-downs that the previous magic keyboard uses the same charging IC as some other apple devices, so it’s likely something to do with using existing manufacturing processes to save on cost. that’s just a guess, though — it’s hard to say for sure without seeing someone dissect one of these (or knowing exactly how they’re made).
rnjesus··on My Custom Stream Deck Toolkit
is there a tried-and-tested ipad app anyone can recommend that does what the stream deck does?

stream decks have always interested me, but the price has always seemed a bit steep. compared to their XL model, for ~50$ more (with an educational discount) you can get a base ipad, and unless you really want the tactile feedback, i can’t think how that wouldn’t be a better buy.

an aside: i really wish hn had a redaction-style, click-to-reveal spoiler system. not that i don’t appreciate the spoiler warning here — it’s quite kind that people mark their comments as-such — but even when i’ve seen “spoiler warnings” for other content that i’d rather not be spoiled on, it’s very hard to not skim the next few proceeding lines out of habit (especially on mobile). i can’t imagine i’m the only one who does this.
