rkwasny··on The EU should be the heat-pump pioneer
I don't quite get why we insist on air/ground<->water systems, instead of just using aircon and heating the indoor air directly?
rkwasny··on iTerm2 feature request: disable all AI-related features
Everything you type into spotlight search is send to apple
rkwasny··on What can LLMs never do?
I just used LLaMA-3-70B to play today's Wordle and it solved it in 6 tries.
rkwasny··on Loading a trillion rows of weather data into TimescaleDB
Well, as a Co-founder and CTO of Timescale, would you say TimescaleDB is a good fit for storing weather data as OP does?
rkwasny··on Loading a trillion rows of weather data into TimescaleDB
I can replicate your benchmark when I get a moment, the data, is it free to share if I wanted to make an open browser?

I have a feeling general public has very limited access to weather data, and graphs in news that state "are we getting hotter on colder" are all sensational and hard to verify.

rkwasny··on Loading a trillion rows of weather data into TimescaleDB
It's better in insert speed, query speed and used disk storage.
rkwasny··on Loading a trillion rows of weather data into TimescaleDB
Yeah, don't use TimescaleDB, use ClickHouse - I have 10 years of NOAA climate data on my desktop that I query when I want to go on holidays ;-)
rkwasny··on Google's Bard surpassing GPT-4, SECOND SPOT on the leaderboard
Surpassing original gpt-4, still behind gpt-4-turbo

rkwasny··on OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY: new open source router board by OpenWrt and Banana Pi
Typical range for a flagship single-access point solution I would say, previously I had portalwifi (from kickstarter) and flint 2 has better range

If you have 2+ story house you need a mesh.

rkwasny··on OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY: new open source router board by OpenWrt and Banana Pi
I think it is officially supported, but honestly I use firmware from GL.Inet web interface is great
rkwasny··on OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY: new open source router board by OpenWrt and Banana Pi
If you don’t want to wait I recommend GL.iNet Flint 2 - based on newer Filogic 830 - works great - supported by openwrt
rkwasny··on SDXL Turbo: A Real-Time Text-to-Image Generation Model
Awesome! so where is the API I can try?
rkwasny··on Amazon Aurora Limitless Database
"With limitless databases come limitless costs" (c)
rkwasny··on Strange Metals: Where electricity may flow without electrons
We are worried that we don't understand LLMs - well, we also don't quite understand gravity and how electricity works, and we use them every day!
rkwasny··on Fast Llama 2 on CPUs with Sparse Fine-Tuning and DeepSparse
Very interesting, as I understand it was fine tuned on GSM8k, so we know we can remove 60% of the model and still answer GSM8k questions

Bigger question is, does the sparse model maintain any general knowledge?

rkwasny··on Meta: Gaia - A Benchmark for General AI Assistants
We need to double check this questions manually first if the answers are actually correct
rkwasny··on Qualcomm kills its copy of Apple's satellite SOS after ten months
Starlink + LTE from space is the future, you will be able to just send an SMS from anywhere to anyone
rkwasny··on 1Password detects "suspicious activity" in its internal Okta account
Whenever I see the statement "We found no compromise of user data." it reminds me of a meme that it could mean: "We don't have access logs, so we can't tell if any data was compromised." :-)
rkwasny··on Ngrok's Always-On Global Server Load Balancing
Nice, so like cloudflare without the CDN, is there also a WAF?
rkwasny··on WiFi can read through walls

rkwasny··on WiFi can read through walls
What did they use as a receiver? how RX Grid was build?
rkwasny··on Ask HN: How bad is the GPU shortage for startups/researchers?
If you need 8xA100 you can get them cheaply on GCP, just not in any region.

If you need 8xH100 only option is AWS, p5.48xlarge - $98/hour

I recommend skypilot for finding a good region

rkwasny··on Intel's Downfall Mitigations Drop Performance Up to 39%, Tests Show
