Your words brought me right back to my teenage years sitting at the family computer at 12am babysitting a couple of song downloads to burn onto a CD for my friends to listen to on the bus ride.
Kinda random and only tangentially related but the thought brought a smile to my face and I just felt like sharing and saying thanks!
Prices weren't great when I bought it at the time but compared to now, I'm glad I bit the bullet when I did.
My thought process is that if I actually make this for myself, those 3-4 projects would magically get a very impatient new stakeholder who will pester me to actually deliver those projects to them.
It's gonna be interesting to see if I'm able to trick my brain into not just brushing off the agent (or if that's even really an issue, no clue at this point). I've started rolling around some ideas on handling that scenario but I'm just gonna let that stew while I play with different setups so I don't end up just building a convoluted reminder app lol
Unfortunately I had an unexpectedly hectic holiday weekend so I won't get to start playing with the idea for real until tomorrow afternoon.
Shit, I think you are now personally responsible for 3-4 home projects I've neglected investing time into actually getting some attention. I too am much more productive and oddly enough, find the work more interesting when It's someone else asking and waiting for me to deliver it.
I haven't tried the Gemini CLI yet and creating an agent that acts like a customer I have to answer too about projects progress sounds like a perfect project idea for this weekend.
Question is, will I actually see this one through our will it too wind up in homelab project purgatory!
1. I believe it's payment processing systems not functioning properly that causes real problems for people and not simply bank websites being down. Especially given...
2. Banks being closed so much back when cash/checks were actually widely used wasn't an issue because you could just pop over to an ATM or whip out a checkbook. In today's system, every single purchase you make requires communication between the merchant, your bank, and any number of middlemen via the internet.
Yeah, cash is still used today but I've been noticing even things like school sports events have stopped taking cash all together and simply post a QR code to buy from your phone.
That is unless the school has crap cell reception (with no public Wi-Fi either!), Cloudflare shits the bed, Visa thinks you're buying porn, you locked your debit card and now can't unlock it cuz the website is down, or any one of the million things that break all the time. Replace school sports event with literally every single things that requires a financial transaction and it's easy to see how even a short outage can lead to actual harm being realized.
Can't promise it'll be soon but I may be able to expand on a couple of your repo's "possible future topics list" items.
I've been working on a personal project involving doing object detection on multiple camera feed inputs that all have different resolutions, frame rates, and encodings and sending a single consolidated and annotated feed to a remote streaming service.
That sent me down a really interesting rabbit hole and I've got tons of notes and links along with some Gemini chats that I'm gonna go through and see if there's anything there that might be worth including.
> But now I'm not sure if it's fair to ignore the consequences of building Twitter, or even the internet. Seeing people's behavior during this event has been incredibly disheartening.
For at least the last 5 or so years I've been right there with you with the same thoughts and concerns. I'm completely convinced after what I saw today that global social media platforms were and still are a mistake. Especially so for the younger generations that have never known a world without them.
In that production he was pretty engaged and most of the time seemed to be putting out relevant, thought out responses.
That's not to say there weren't any gotcha responses being thrown around but IIRC (it's been a while) it was coming from both sides of the debate. IIRC, there was some one of the debaters was actually more ,than Kirk (provided I'm not mixing up videos, healthy distrust for my memory lol).
Immediate red flag in my mind reading this line. The only reason I can imagine to phrase it this way is to artificially make the numbers look "bigger" to the reader without outright lying.
That summary is disingenuous at best. Partial/NoAC are 2 distinct categories and Partial doesn't even have a set definition.
There's a pretty big difference between "A single housing units AC at the prison is broken", "AC isn't installed on half our units", and "No AC at all".
> "The Texas Department of Criminal Justice reported that 51 of its 58 facilities fall into this category—the highest number among all states that responded to Reuters"
I'm having trouble reconciling this statement with the data they published to GitHub. I viewed the document on my phone so maybe I missed something while reading it but I can't figure out a way for the numbers on that sheet to match what they wrote here. I thought maybe the data was just updated since the article ran but the source is a PDF document dated 2023 so I doubt that's what's happening here.

There's a large plume that looks like smoke to me looks like smoke (could be dust/sand being blown away but I wouldn't think you'd see that much from a busy runway) visible off the left side of the runway. The plane is obscured by that structure when it happens but it looks like it's created at the same time that the plane is leaving the ground.
It looks like the plane stops accelerating completely at that same moment without any change in orientation which, in my head, looks like both engines suffered total failure at the same time.
From my limited knowledge (mostly from Mentour Pilot YT videos), that seems consistent with what you'd see if the plane flew through a large flock of birds that are spread out enough that both engines would be hit at the same time.
Again, purely speculation on my part based solely on what I see in this 1 video.
In this case, while I couldn't see it directly while he was making the call, I had watched him fly to and land in a nearby tree before the call and then shortly after watched it take off. So I can't be 100% sure, but I'd be willing to bet that it was the Jay.
I've actually started setting my AC to keep the temp a little higher in the early mornings so it doesn't run as much while I'm outside.
Now, I know it's technically possible it was a real id, but Im pretty sure the bald eagle it detected was actually one of the kids down the street running around screaming lol
For the last month, my morning routine has completely changed and instead of sitting inside. I now spend my mornings out back refilling and cleaning feeders, putting out some peanuts to appease the squirrels, and then plopping down on the deck with some coffee/breakfast and MerlinID running on my phone.
I'm no good at learning a new human language but after a month of using this app regularly, I can consistently ID not just the different species, but also some individual birds by their distinct calls and voices.
The only thing I wish it had is a way to catalog individual birds and have recordings of their calls and pictures of them saved together.
Hats off to the devs of this app, hands down the best app I've used in a long time!
Please Let your friends know that roosters are birds too and deserve their recognition as the world's wake up call! Lol
Probably 5% of the time I'll get stuck completely and those days are immensely stressful but on the flip side, the 5% of the time I actually am able to silence the procrastination demon in my ear, those days are so satisfyingly productive.
I checked out the FAQs on that page and apparently the 15 hours is just included with the Spotify premium subscription and that let's you listen to 15 hours of anything in their catalog.
Separate from that, you can also purchase books outright and it seems listening to those purchased books won't count towards that 15 Hours.
In that context, those 15 hours are actually kinda appealing to me since it would let you listen to more than the 5 min sample of a book you get on Audible before deciding to outright buy it or you could use that time to listen to a couple shorter books every month without having to purchase it.
Think I might have just convinced myself to look into it a bit more lol (I'm curious how good their catalogue is compared to Audibles)
A couple months back my son wanted to start listening to some of the series in my Audible collection and I initially set up their family sharing feature but it was really clunky.
Took a couple minutes to setup and deploy Audiobookshelf with profiles for both my kids and then a couple hours to deploy Libation to download my audible library (including all the artwork, metadata and extras) and organize it for Audiobookshelf.
There are other tools for the Audible library retrieval but Libation seemed to be the most complete client with a CLI and a ready to go container image.
Tangentially, even if you don't want to self host an audiobook server, I highly recommend protecting your audible purchases using tools like Libation to download and archive your library (DRM free, all the popular tools I've found handle this).
Haven't ever dug into it but the app doesn't require a login to use that function so I'm willing to bet there's an unauthenticated API endpoint that could be sniffed out (they may possibly have it documented somewhere too).
Outside of being a fun itch to scratch, using the app directly is fast enough with very little effort.
After the toilet seat makes its noise from being put down, that cat will be standing at the door before I've even had a chance to sit down regardless of where she was. The one time one of my kids used my bathroom I finally got to witness that little scaredy cat temporarily morph into a ninja and parkour her way from a back room, clear my recliner, use a door mat/rug to be able to take a 90° turn into my room at full speed (hard floors in most of the house makes for some funny antics with both the dog and cat lol), keep running all out and jumping into the side of my bed and using it to make another full speed 90° turn that after she landed had exactly the right amount of momentum to slide to a stop right in the doorway. The same cat that is still petrified of walking on the counter in front of the kitchen sink has no problem at all vaulting around the house if someone is going to poop in my bathroom.
All this to say, I'm kinda sad now, I thought I had found another being in this world who thinks my shit smells like roses too!
