richardanaya··on VW Will Sell You Self-Driving for $8.50/Hour Someday. Too High or Too Low?
I look forward to the first competitor to undercut.
richardanaya··on Show HN: WebAssembly Cloud – I created a playground in the browser using Rust
Hey all, I worked on this project this last weekend to create a simple online lab space to play with WebAssembly that I felt other online Rust playgrounds didn't exactly provide (specifically the ability to see my output as html). Curious to hear what you think!
richardanaya··on Using asynchronous web APIs from WebAssembly
I find it really crazy how far this had to go to support something as simple as sleep. I became aware of this problem when I started writing WASI last year. So so much unix code is based on the idea of synchronous operations. My conclusions were that some sort of ability to have atomics that could pause a web assembly running on a web worker while an async operation completed then unlocked the blocked web assembly was the only way this could be sanely done.
richardanaya··on Merge tag 'arm-Apple-M1-5.13' of Linux
One idea might be building a relationship of trust around a certain architecture in the Kernel, another idea is that it makes future work faster to merge in if the basics are already in.

richardanaya··on Ask HN: Does anyone else find the AWS Lambda developer experience frustrating?
Have you considered just using lambda to http server adapter? That way you can just write a normal http server and test against that locally as normal, then when you publish to a lambda, the adapter turns AWS lambda json to http requests?
richardanaya··on Show HN: Play with a Spot robot in your browser
Hey all, thought i’d share this cool project I worked on with my awesome colleagues. Was a lot of fun to build and happy the world can play with it. Curious what you all think!
richardanaya··on Ask HN: What novel tools are you using to write web sites/apps?
I'm experimenting with creating web pages in Rust WebAssembly using lit-html. https://github.com/richardanaya/lit-html-rs
richardanaya··on Cancer death rates rising near Fermi nuclear plant
I wonder if the testing rates in places is higher than average. From my understanding the genetics that enable cancer baked into core of our DNA (I.e legacy DNA of single called organisms). People walk around with cancer and just never know it. Part of me wonders if places like these are just more aware of it or if there’s an out of the norm problem. Either way it should be investigated.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
“Intermittent fasting was seen to be superior to ad libitum feeding in reducing weight.”
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
There’s a huge variety of variants of intermittent fasting.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
If that’s all you think IF is you are way off the Mark.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
Nobody disproved anything. They have no clinical confidence to say anything, just an observance that IF people lost weight better.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
That doesn’t say it doesn’t.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
As someone who’s lost 15 pounds since Christmas doing nothing but eating in a restricted 2 hour window rigidly most days. This doesn’t surprise me. Long low blood sugar periods and it’s much easier to get a single window of eating under control.
richardanaya··on Intermittent fasting for the prevention of cardiovascular disease
It said it was better than random eating.
richardanaya··on Raiders of the Lost Ark as a Black-and-White Silent Film (2014)
I liked it
richardanaya··on Frugal Web Browser: A Design Experiment
I want a WebAssembly only browser.*

*I know that's not possible currently

richardanaya··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
A Web Assembly interpreter written in Rust. That works but has bugs and has no mass testing. It has one really badass feature, the ability to stop at any point.

richardanaya··on Stadia uses a web app to bypass Apple's policy on cloud gaming apps
They copied and made cloud gaming far better.
richardanaya··on Stadia uses a web app to bypass Apple's policy on cloud gaming apps
As someone who has used Google and GeForce Now, I can tell you Stadia’s whole cloud gaming experience is just better.
richardanaya··on New for AWS Lambda – Container Image Support
Rust base image?

Is there some easy way to simulate api gateway + docker lambda locally?

richardanaya··on Ask HN: Should I learn C/C++ or Rust as my first systems programming language?

richardanaya··on The Failed Promise of Web Components
I’m personally super excited for lit-html’s future in web components. It feels much simpler.

richardanaya··on Reducing the Costs of Robotics Observability
Hey all, author here. I've been working on this neat feature of this robot observability platform and had the chance to write down a perspective of this challenge I see in the realm of robot fleets. I thought some folks here might be interested in this topic and one solution i'm trying to make a reality for how to tackle it. Would love to know what other people are thinking about in the realm of costs and robots.
richardanaya··on Tour of Rust
I think the big difference between Tour of Rust and the Book is my example sizes were meant to be as small as possible to demonstrate one concept at a time. Most of the concepts require no strings at all to explain. Particularly through the procedural programming chapters.
richardanaya··on Tour of Rust
Tour of Rust english author here, David https://github.com/Dhghomon/ our Interlingue writer was one of our most passionate translators. We'd be happy to have Esperanto.
richardanaya··on Tour of Rust
I'm the author here. I can tell you about my methodology for ordering. I immediately talk about text as soon as ownership and structs are explained. In Tour of Rust, I tried to hold to a principle of not explain concepts before their dependent concepts have been mentioned. I believe it's what allowed me to keep most of the pages as simple as possible.

I felt the procedural programming aspect was best explained with as little strings as possible, and wanted to get that out of the way as soon as possible.
