If you are really UL, you can ditch the phone and just use the Ultra. Apple Watch + small battery is lighter than a Fenix + iPhone + battery.
I'm sure there are plenty of wash sales, but I know many, many people -- including myself -- that buy and sell NFTs on a daily basis and I don't have much problem finding buyers/sellers, especially with the new NFT liquidity markets.
Meanwhile, devs in crypto are able to build without limits and are having an absolute blast larping as anime cats on Twitter while cranking on bleeding edge ZK tech and other exciting projects.

the 0.1% that are not are going to be the foundation for the next generation of web and finance -- this is also obvious.
but it's silly to pretend like most cryptos aren't just cash grabs. but just like 99.9% of websites on the internet are scams/ads/useless, doesn't take away from the importance of the legitimately useful websites.
but tbh, some of the most exciting cryptographic problems are being worked on in the cryptocurrency industry (zk tech, for example).
So, the timing of this Stripe announcement could be related to the Biden EO: https://apnews.com/article/biden-cryptocurrency-executive-or...
sure, it may be a middle ground between the existing Pro XDR and 5K LG Ultrafine displays, but this is something that was just announced today, hence "news".
I recently got one to use as a secondary display just for Slack /Discord/etc, but after connecting a trackpad & keyboard I totally fell in love. It's a very simplistic environment, but it's actually quite nice as an alternative to the full-blown macOS.
I hope it remains that way.
Some do of course throw unnecessary signup pages before allowing you to connect your wallet. I immediately close the tab if I see that. They are the minority.
It's the web, obviously there aren't firm rules. The point is that most of the builders in the space are hackers that want a free and open web void of that nonsense.
And most of the protocols/services are profitable, so the builders have no incentive to track users or sell data.
If "web2" companies start moving into the space, I'm sure they will track and sell data like they do now. The goal is to create free and open alternatives of those products so you aren't forced to endure those tactics.
But with web3 + a VPN or Private Relay, you can probably do a fairly good job staying mostly anon.

It's incredible to be able to go to different websites (Zapper, Zerion, OpenSea, etc.) and simply have all my data already exist -- without needing to create an account, export/import.
web3 makes me believe in a new era of the internet that isn't full of ads, cookie consent forms, dozens of sign-in services, tracking, etc.
An anonymous version of myself and my data exists everywhere. It's really a hackers dream.
but there are plenty of trails throughout the Uintas to extend the trip, or just drive over to any number of other ranges (Winds, Teton, Wasatch) or Southern Utah and do some desert hiking in the Canyonlands or Escalante.
Unfortunately the wildfire smoke is prevalent across the west so there's not much escaping it.
HN talks about Bitcoin/crypto frequently, but the overwhelming opinion for years has been that it's pointless.
That will certainly be a huge miss, similar to the dismissal of easy file syncing. DeFi/crypto/NFTs seem to be gaining real traction and HN hasn't accepted it.
I'd prefer to have native internet streaming coverage. IIRC the 2016 or '18 games had fantastic free coverage on streaming boxes, with a nice app that had an easy way to watch live for any sport. not sure why we are regressing so badly. Probably money.
There are some very cool things like decentralized lending/borrowing, exchanges, cross-chain swaps, synthetics, etc. These protocols are revenue generating (via fees) and are actively used with billions in volume.
99% of crypto will die off, but the small part that survives could be the backbone of a very robust internet-native financial system.
Whether these DeFi primitives will ever be plugged into TradFi systems remains to be seen, but if nothing else, the ability for these protocols to easily interop is a huge win over existing systems.
Even if everything uses stablecoins and all "altcoins" are ignored, there is still value here.
