revanx_··on NoScript is harmful and promotes malware
Source code for NoScript is available, if you manually update and compare the code you should be safe.
revanx_··on NoScript is harmful and promotes malware
For how long has that malware link been on the update page?

The article mentions the author has a history of doing shady things, can someone provide more background into this?

revanx_··on Victory for Net Neutrality in Europe
As someone living in Slovenia and still running on ADSL2+ I'm jelly. Regarding your 20/20, highly suspect, it's likely you were doing speedtest tests against your ISPs server which would make sense but you would never get that past their gateway.
revanx_··on CloudFlare, SSL and unhealthy security absolutism
'Inject javascript into your code while returning pages'

I absolutely hate this, you go to a completely benign website but you can't see the content unless you allow the injected CF to run in your browser.

revanx_··on Virtual Box 5.1
which guest OS did you use for testing?
revanx_··on FreePascal and Lazarus Foundation
I wouldn't say that the IDE is shit, but it certainly isn't as good as VS, what issues do you encounter to make you say that?
revanx_··on Guide to modern Object Pascal for programmers
If you haven't touched Pascal in 20 years you should refrain from making comments about the language not being fit for development productivity and code quality, it simply isn't true.
revanx_··on Guide to modern Object Pascal for programmers
It limits functions to never returning newly constructed objects

No it doesn't.

The automatic reference counting capability of Delphi interfaces always seemed like a good idea to me, but seems to be rarely used.

You mean rarely used by people who are amatures, developers have always been pushed towards programming against interfaces.

revanx_··on Woman wins $10k judgment against Microsoft for forced Windows 10 upgrade
I tried Windows 10, spent 18 hours tweaking and fine tuning until I went too far with disabling the hidden telemetry services (yes W10 has hidden services that you will never see in the MMC but run with an automatic trigger). Went afk which was apparently the trigger condition, two hours later I find my laptop completely locked and unresponsive burning the cpu in some infinite loop.

Have to give them credit tho, the telemetry that cannot be disabled does not bypass the software firewall in case you're blocking the ports, at least not from what I have learned in the span of two days.

revanx_··on AMD’s Zen Summit Ridge 8-core CPUs on Par with Intel I7 5960X Extreme
The real question : Is Zen going to pack with AMD Platform Security Processor (PSP)?

revanx_··on Western Digital completes SanDisk purchase
I assume this move from WD was to be more aggressive on the SSD market?
revanx_··on GitLab Pages
What are the proven benefits?
revanx_··on GitLab Pages
I remember when github adopted the Code of Conduct, it was a clear sign for me that it was time to switch. All they need now is the equivalent of Twitter's "Safety Council" to complete the SJW combo.
revanx_··on Freedom and security issues on x86 platforms
maybe some low performance RISCV SoCs will be available in a few years, but at least a decade for workstations socs.
revanx_··on Freedom and security issues on x86 platforms
off topic: do you happen to have any issues with the usb ports on the right side of the case?
revanx_··on Freedom and security issues on x86 platforms
There is no FOSS lima driver for Mali-T760. There was a lima dev working on it but cause of some e drama that went down the drain.
revanx_··on GalliumOS – Lightweight Linux for Chromebooks
I can't speak for other ARM chromebooks but I was able to install Debian on my Asus C201 just fine, why would this be any different, or are the tweaks incompatible?
revanx_··on VPN Comparison Chart
I use AirVPN, fairly satisfied, the only thing that bothers me is that they affiliate with ipleak.net , which is a website that checks your connection for dns leak among other things. That's great by itself but it's more of a honeypot at this point because the website heavly relies on google scripts so if you happen to have a google normal/evercookie installed in your browser you are instantly identified no matter what VPN you use.
revanx_··on Qubes OS 3.1 has been released
I just really hope that the next generation of GPUs will have better support for virtualization, yeah, looking at you NVIDIA.
revanx_··on Qubes OS 3.1 has been released
Worked out of the box for me on my Z77 board.
revanx_··on Godot game engine reaches 2.0
As someone who just wants to try it out, really wish the site had https and hashes with the supplied binaries.
revanx_··on Bill Gates Says Apple Should Unlock the iPhone
Exactly, especially now that the D.O.D. is rushing to upgrade every device to windows 10, what a joke ;d
revanx_··on Intel to shut down renegade Skylake overclocking with microcode update
What nigtmarish PR are you talking about? Nobody cares, just like nobody cared when they started shipping cpus with embedded Intel ME.
revanx_··on Ask HN: How happy are you working as a programmer?
I'm happy if I follow this golden rule : "Premature optimization is the root of all evil -- DonaldKnuth"

I so often spiral into an endless loop of "this could be done better, rewrite from scratch, must have more decoupling!!".

revanx_··on Amazon's customer service backdoor
Still waiting for them to open to the rest of the world, beta is only for USA. Frankly , no idea what is taking them so long.
revanx_··on Amazon's customer service backdoor
For me the solution has been to stick with my national ccTLD registry. If your country has strong private protection laws then your national registry will shield your information for your ccTLD domains from public whois. It's not exactly bulletproof, they still make that information available from their whois database but it's just another step someone has to make to get to your information. That much said, on a ccTLD you should be able to get away with only just a name, surname and a valid email address.

What are the alternatives? Those fishy private protection companies? Technically once you sign up there, they own your domain, simple as that.

OpenNIC? I wish that was the case.

revanx_··on "Customers are likely to see regressions with Windows 7 ongoing servicing"
For me personally, support for W7&8 has ended months ago when they tried to sneak in the same privacy invading updates that infest windows 10. Windows update has been disabled since then, can't even install updates manually since I can no longer trust that the package does what the wiki page says.
revanx_··on Qubes OS will ship pre-installed on Purism’s security-focused Librem 13 laptop
Would love to know where you got this information from as in Chromebook C201 has no hardware blobs except for 3D acceleration.
revanx_··on Telemetry, Now on Windows 7 and 8
Most Windows users are non-technical users who don't read or understand EULAS and they aren't even aware that their personal life is recorded at every action they take. I'm all down for analytics where the user is fully aware of what data is transmited, when and how. Sadly that will never happen because every company is only concerned with their legal obligations and not moral ones.
revanx_··on I noticed some disturbing privacy defaults in Windows 10
phone tracking and triangulation always existed, even before Google. Honestly you can't compare Google to Microsoft.
