renw0rp··on Virgin Hyperloop Has Invented the World's Crappiest High-Speed Rail
In the UK everything costs twice as much as originally estimated and takes twice as much time. I hope I will live to experience the 330km/h (operating speed of UK's HS2)
renw0rp··on Virgin Hyperloop Has Invented the World's Crappiest High-Speed Rail
Sure, the faster the better, but as long as there is a couchette option 11h doesn't sound half bad.

renw0rp··on Dates and Times in JavaScript – A New API for Dates from TC39
And people used to complain about Java development being slow and behind other languages...

Regarding JavaScript temporals - better late than never I guess.

I did try IF before and I'm getting back to it now. Social aspect is the main reason for skipping breakfast, not the dinner for me
renw0rp··on Let Game Theory Tell You When It’s Time to Go Shopping
Considering that most people in the UK get up late and prefer to queue up around noon or in the evening/afternoon you don't need any maths to figure out that you just need to go when the store opens. So far going between 6am and 8am has been successful for me.
renw0rp··on Amazon’s New Competitive Advantage: Putting Its Own Products First
Couldn't agree more. There is so much crap advertised and sold there, with fake or paid for reviews that I buy only "sold by Amazon" 99% of the time I shop there. If only I could permanently enable such a filter site-wide...
renw0rp··on Zettelkasten note-taking in 10 minutes
Any idea why would Zettlr (recommended application for Zettelkasten in the article) called one of the themes "Karl-Marx-Stadt" (which is a name used for Chemnitz during division of Germany).

I know it's a bit off topic - so I guess my comment fits right in HN discussions :D

edit: I figured this out myself; the author of the application is described:

Hendrik Erz is a research assistant at the University of Bonn. His main research focusses on the nexus between Marxist economic theory, digitalisation and violence in capitalist societies (riots and terrorism).

renw0rp··on Updating STM32 Over-The-Air using ESP32
I'm playing with STM32 Cube IDE right now. I got surprised that it works well on Linux (ok, I did only basic stuff, but did not have any trouble setting it up).

However I was wondering what would be totally open source toolchain and development setup? That might be too advanced for me now (and I'm happy with graphical peripheral selection in ST tools), but would like to try it in the future

renw0rp··on Updating STM32 Over-The-Air using ESP32
that's the right answer!
renw0rp··on Updating STM32 Over-The-Air using ESP32
thanks for the link! I have some never used esp8266 laying around! I might try to use it for my stm32 tinkering! (I have a couple of discovery boards around as well)

J2ee was a hell, but Java EE was quite decent!

Pragmatism - do programming to solve real life problems rather than create a broken ecosystems which requires constant changes (and learning just to be on top of them) to fix a bad design

I'm in the same situation. I still have some (finely ground) wheat flour, but can't get any bread flour nor rye flour :/
renw0rp··on South Korea switching their 3.3M PCs to Linux
I use Linux over Mac at home for this exact reason. What they call "Full screen mode" on Mac is a joke. Plus it's always fun to watch people trying to get external display to work with their Macs during the meetings at work...

renw0rp··on How Tokyo built its way to abundant housing
that's for sure, mostly 10-15 years after. Doesn't change the fact that this never happened in the UK; old council houses are still ugly, energy inefficient and often mouldy inside... not to mention some awful&impractical design choices
renw0rp··on How Tokyo built its way to abundant housing
while definitely pre-fabricated building were grey and ugly, they still look better than British council houses in London; especially after many of them, for example in Warsaw, got renovated, insulated, covered with plaster and colourfully painted.
