renewiltord··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
It’s fake news predicated on China not being able to get GPUs. But it turns out everyone was getting them their GPUs by serial number swaps in warehouse.
renewiltord··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
The sources are the sources. The reality is the reality.
renewiltord··on Qwen3.6-Max-Preview: Smarter, Sharper, Still Evolving
You will find out when ANZUS ends.
renewiltord··on OpenAI ad partner now selling ChatGPT ad placements based on “prompt relevance”
The joke here is that the majority of FAANG engineers are actually doing anything but saying "I'm blocked on" every week.
renewiltord··on Japan's cherry blossom database, 1,200 years old, has a new keeper
You're supposed to keep an apprentice, man!
renewiltord··on Kimi K2.6: Advancing open-source coding
Every forum gets regulars and their fan clubs. If you go to /r/comics and look at top for the month you'll see 4 out of 5 are pizzacakecomic. People on these forums sort of form a fanclub around 'their guy'. This forum's guy is this chap. Not much point being upset about it, tbh.
renewiltord··on M 7.4 earthquake – 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan
Dude that’s fucking hilarious. Storm troopers. Amazing.
renewiltord··on F-35 is built for the wrong war
> Modern morality prevents such scale and tactics until it does not.

In the sense that the tide of geopolitics means that if someone tried that they'd mark themselves as a defector in the current scheme of morality and would stand to lose a lot when the rest of Europe inevitably treats that as an example of how they are about to be treated.

renewiltord··on The RAM shortage could last years
I reconcile that with the fact that Europe doesn't make enough DRAM for me.
renewiltord··on Sauna effect on heart rate
I mean yes it depends on your definition of humid but if your definition of humid is under 20% RH then that's not in agreement with any other humans on the planet and if it's over 50% RH then no, millions of people are not doing this because they would die. Our bedroom is at 50% RH because under that our baby's skin dries out. There's no way anyone is sitting in a 90 C 50% RH sauna for any appreciable amount of time. They would die.
renewiltord··on M 7.4 earthquake – 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan
I think that’s pretty much the same. NERV uses child soldiers and is secretly planning a fused hivemind. They are the Torment Nexus.
renewiltord··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
JD Power ranking American fashion brands now? Not bad.
renewiltord··on Changes in the system prompt between Claude Opus 4.6 and 4.7
Yeah, same. So long as they give me everything and cannot enforce their license I don’t mind if they require a license. Ideally the weights should be available even if I only ever run inference once (or perhaps no times). I’m willing to pay 0.99€ for this - lifetime of course.
renewiltord··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
And you won’t believe it but the US didn’t make J D Power Best Places To Work either. In fact, I’m told that the Barclays Certified Happy Places To Live Brought To You By Standard Chartered doesn’t list a single American city.
renewiltord··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
I think adding any new rules on them is going to have no effect if we expect the laws to constrain exactly those people who are likely to be pardoned, yes.
renewiltord··on The RAM shortage could last years
Yeah and exactly zero of those companies are European as a consequence. I think we won’t be taking Europe’s lead on this, thanks.
renewiltord··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
I imagine it's because she's in the opposition and has been doing this for a long time with the justification "We are a free market economy. They should be able to participate in that" https://apnews.com/article/business-nancy-pelosi-congress-86...

So it's worthwhile to note that both major political parties believe this is acceptable.

renewiltord··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
Why does making this rule matter? The pardon makes it all irrelevant.
renewiltord··on Matt Mullenweg Overrules Core Committers; Puts Akismet on WP 7's Connector List
People on the Internet are just so dramatic. "Terrifying". Yes, indeed, this induces "terror", abject fear. Give me a break. At worst it's slightly cringe-worthy. This treadmill of dysphemisms is honestly annoying. At this point, all actions are described in extreme terms as if they're life changing when they're only mildly quirky.
renewiltord··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
I think I’m between the comments here. I think it’s funny to say we have a spare but I also think it’s not as funny to say “oh you have a spare”. It’s like a fat guy can joke about his fatness but you can’t.
renewiltord··on The quiet disappearance of the free-range childhood
This is a bit of a shift of the Overton Window surely. Because that doesn’t sound free-range: which involves perhaps miles of travel unsupervised.
renewiltord··on Why Japan has such good railways
Population density is not accidental. HK has towers and greenery vs Anglophone culture which is to build homes sprawled into the greenery.
renewiltord··on Why Japan has such good railways
California is also like this for the most part. Bay Area has 8 m, Los Angeles area has 17 m, and San Diego area has 3 m. 28 out of 39 live in those three. Straight line.
renewiltord··on Why Japan has such good railways
Yeah there are all these studies but then the end result is that the Japanese are healthier overall so when the studies and the reality have opposite results you gotta go with the reality.
renewiltord··on It is incorrect to "normalize" // in HTTP URL paths
I’m going to keep doing it.
renewiltord··on Rewriting Every Syscall in a Linux Binary at Load Time
It’s clearly LLM written but the idea was interesting enough that I read it. I suspect based on username the writer is cleaning up their voice.

I think the idea of sharing the raw prompt traces is good. Then I can feed that to an LLM and get the original information prior to expansion.

renewiltord··on Landmark ancient-genome study shows surprise acceleration of human evolution
They have to be. The snail darter is genetically identical to another animal and is a separate species. Most likely different humans are as well.
renewiltord··on I built a 3D printing business and ran it for 8 months
I think you have a business here in this space if you focus exclusively on bomb drones and scaling production to 1000s of units per month with near 100% duty cycle.
renewiltord··on I built a 3D printing business and ran it for 8 months
Why to scale? Because hours of work for $300 is not worth it lol.
renewiltord··on We reproduced Anthropic's Mythos findings with public models
I was able to reproduce the findings with Python deterministic static analyser. You just need to write the correct harness. Mine included the line numbers that caused the issue, the files that caused the issue, and then a textual description of what the bug is. The Python harness deterministically echoes back the textual description of the bug accurately 100% of the time.

I was even able to do this with novel bugs I discovered. So long as you design your harness inputs well and include a full description of the bug, it can echo it back to you perfectly. Sometimes I put it through Gemma E4B just to change the text but it's better when you don't. Much more accurate.

But Python is very powerful. It can generate replies to this comment completely deterministically. If you want, reply and I will show you how to generate your comment with Python.
