reiz··on Ask HN: Why is PGP not used widely?
PGP is great. Everybody in tech has the skills to use it. But for non tech people it is still to difficult. But since the NSA affairs many crypto parties happened, specially in Germany. On this crypto parties tech people are teaching non tech people how to crypt emails with PGP. I think that is a good start and I hope we will see more crypto parties in future.

Did you try the search on VersionEye? http://www.versioneye.com/?ab=b
reiz··on Package Management All the Way Down
Thanks for posting this article! I totally agree that every software developer should use a package manager to manage his dependencies. Downloading binaries with a browser is totally 1995.

There are a couple more package managers I missed in the article. For example the new package manager for PHP, called composer. It is very similar to NPM from NodeJS. And there are already more than 17K projects on the central repository. You can check out the numbers here: http://www.versioneye.com/php

Another really big one is Maven for Java. There are more than 80K Project available through Maven Repositories. Maven is the most complex package manager I know. But I guess that is natural for Enterprise :-) I prefer more simple package managers.

On this page you can see how many projects are available through each package manager: http://www.versioneye.com/statistics. Bower and other package managers will be integrated in the next weeks.

reiz··on Ask HN: Review my StartUp
Thanks for the hint. Will do.
reiz··on Ask HN: Review my StartUp
Well, that is automation. You automate a process because you don't wanna run everything manually in your shell. From VersionEye you get notifications about outdated libraries. But not just that. The tool also shows a list of licenses you are using in your project.
reiz··on Ask HN: Review my StartUp
We have 8. The 8th is JavaScript. But the language page for JavaScript doesn't look very fancy currently. That's why we removed the icon from the landing page. But you can for example follow jQuery-mobile here: http://www.versioneye.com/javascript/jquery:jquery-mobile/1....
reiz··on Ask HN: Review my StartUp
What is the reason to use a continuous integration system like travis-ci.com, or codeship.io? You could simple run "rspec" in your shell! The reason is automation!
reiz··on Ask HN: can I visit your Berlin office?
You are welcome to visit the VersionEye office at Brunnenstrasse 181 in Berlin Mitte, close to St.Oberholz. We share a big office with 3 other StartUps. We are 3 people in the office working every day on http://www.versioneye.com. I am currently not in Berlin but you can use my desk anyway. @timgluz on twitter can let you in. Just contact him.
reiz··on Open source alternative to FireBase?
Take a look to the Atmosphere Framework: http://www.ncolomer.net/2012/03/cometwebsocket-introducing-t...
reiz··on Ask HN: What's the most beautiful language in your opinion? Why?
Visual Basic! Haha .. just kidding! My favourite is Ruby. It is simple enough that you don't need a 500 MB tool to edit your code ;-)
reiz··on Ask HN: What's the most beautiful language in your opinion? Why?
Java? Really? The JVM is kind of cool but Java as language not at all. There are other languages much more simple and beautiful. That's at least my opinion.
reiz··on Ask HN: When teaching myself, how can I learn to engineer instead of just code?
If you want to engineer something you should learn about software design pattern. The wiki page is a good start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_design_pattern.
reiz··on Freaking fun Java web hacking
JAX-RS is just not fun! That's at least my opinion. I just took a brief look to spark-java but it looks more fun than JAX-RS, because it looks very simple and straight forward. That's at least my first impression.
reiz··on Reddit secret plan for world domination
Some people just don't have any sense for humour. Don't laugh! Don't have fun! Be serious! Because the world is not serious enough!
reiz··on Ask HN: Would someone pay for managing their FB/Twitter feed?
Sure! There are already companies offering this to StartUps. Even remote workers are doing advertising for managing social media channels. But most StartUps just have a student for this job.
reiz··on Reddit secret plan for world domination
LOL. I just saw the first slide and I had to up vote it :-D
reiz··on Simple MongoDB gem for small Ruby apps/scripts
Why not just using MongoID? I think MongoID is already pretty simple. But I am open for other opinions.
reiz··on Germany tells Google to tidy up auto-complete
My theory is that the German Government is jealous. They would like to have the all the user data the people are giving to google for free. But actually it's pretty sad. I am a German guy and I am totally annoyed by all this internet laws in my country. The Government has no idea how the internet is working. They should more focus on other problems. For example Banks!
reiz··on Would you vote for a rational Artificially Intelligent president?
Hello No. But it is a very interesting idea.
reiz··on Ask HN: How important is a master's degree?
For me a good profile on Stackoverflow & GitHub has more value than a master degree from Stanford.
reiz··on How Getting Married and Having Kids Made Me a Better Programmer
Thanks for posting this! I think there is a lot of true in it.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
Cool! Is your blogging platform on GitHub? OpenSource? I am looking for blogging software in ruby, which I can customise for my own needs.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
Congratulation! I wish you all the best.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
That sounds like a good mix. Keep it up.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
I am sorry that you don't have family left anymore. Yes that can be annoying. But you could use the time for activities where you don't need consultants. I am using the time to do SEO for my Start-Up. And I am pre writing blog posts and saving them as drafts. I will post them somewhere in January.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
node.js is on my todo list. Heared many cool things about it.
reiz··on Ask HN: How are you using the time between Christmas and New Year?
:-) Nothing wrong with that.
reiz··on Ask HN: What is a good way to host a Rails app for free? Or very cheap?
Another solution is CloudControl: https://www.cloudcontrol.com/for-developers. This is a provider from Berlin / Germany.
reiz··on Ask HN: How to code for humanity?
There are a couple of non profit organisation looking for good coders. One of them is Campus Party Europe: http://www.campus-party.eu/2012/index.html. As far as I know the next Campus Party Europe event will be in the Bay Area / California. And they always looking for volunteers.
