regularjack··on Plastic bag bans and fees reduce harmful bag litter on shorelines
I'm convinced virtue signaling is a term invented by sociopaths who can't conceive of the possibility that some people care about something other than themselves.

Because they are biologically incapable of doing so themselves, they think everyone must be like them, so those who care must have some other hidden agenda.

regularjack··on Brazil's Supreme Court makes social media liable for user content
> I don't see why anyone would even attempt to create a social aspect to their services in Brazil

Maybe that's a good thing.

regularjack··on How much EU is in DNS4EU?
What a load of bullshit. I take offense at Lisbon and Portugal "dying", which it certainly isn't. Yes, poorer EU countries get money, thay is how the EU works. It's not a fault, it's how it's supposed to be.
regularjack··on Marines being mobilized in response to LA protests
I don't think people sitting in traffic qualify as a crowd that needs control.
regularjack··on Apple warns Australia against joining EU in mandating iPhone app sideloading
I do want random apps on my phone. Even if I didn't, it's my phone, I call the shots.
regularjack··on Twitter's new encrypted DMs aren't better than the old ones
Every time I open a Twitter link, most of the comments will be garbage.
regularjack··on Twitter's new encrypted DMs aren't better than the old ones
Which one do you trust more?
regularjack··on We are no longer a serious country
What different does it make, what matters is what the text says.
regularjack··on We are no longer a serious country
No, it really doesn't.
regularjack··on Changing Directions
You really think the typical patient fits the profile you describe?

Only healthy people, physically and mentally, should be granted healthcare, amirite?

regularjack··on Vision Language Models Are Biased
You answer "I don't know"
regularjack··on Valkey Turns One: Community fork of Redis
Why is it completely unacceptable that those trillion dollar corporations pay Redis for a licmense other than AGPL?
regularjack··on AI is not our future
I read it as them stating their stance. As in, "Our" means Procreate, not humanity.
regularjack··on AI makes bad managers
They didn't say it boils down to that, they say it's an important part, and I agree.
regularjack··on Duolingo CEO tries to walk back AI-first comments, fails
It is not at all surprising to me that humans care about other humans. Only a minority of humans are sociopaths, fortunately.
regularjack··on Mozilla to shut down Pocket and Fakespot
It would probably make more sense to link to the blog post: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/building-whats-next/

Also, it's not just Pocket, it's also Fakespot, which I didn't even know existed.

regularjack··on The scientific “unit” we call the decibel
There is no such thing as full volume, and there is not such thing as zero volume.
regularjack··on $20K Bounty Offered for Optimizing Rust Code in Rav1d AV1 Decoder
Programmers in EU who have the skills to do this type of work can likely charge much more than that for 6 to 12 months.
regularjack··on US Copyright Office found AI companies breach copyright. Its boss was fired
Then they need to be changed for everyone and not just AI companies, but we all know that ain't happening.
regularjack··on CLion Is Now Free for Non-Commercial Use
JetBrains AI now does essentially the same thing as Windsurf and Cursor. My prediction: JeBrains IDEs will be around in 5 years, Windsurf and Cursor won't.
regularjack··on A proof of concept tool to verify estimates
The normal refactorings are still there AFAICT.
regularjack··on 'ProtectEU' security strategy: a step further towards a digital dystopian future
The commission is elected indirectly, as I'm sure you're aware.
regularjack··on Linkwarden: FOSS self-hostable bookmarking with AI-tagging and page archival
I also use raindrop, but been looking at self-hosted alternatives as raindrop does not encrypt the data, so I can't use it for work stuff.
regularjack··on The AI skeptic's guide to AI collaboration
Why is it strange? Different people enjoy different things. Seems normal to me
regularjack··on Whistleblower details how DOGE may have taken sensitive NLRB data
I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conspiracy theory territory, it could just be that people get tired of reading the same bullshit everyday.
regularjack··on James Cameron on AI copyright: humans are models
This whole AI is like humans thing is so exhausting. It's obviously not the same thing. A human can't ingest all of the library of Alexandria, and then generate dollars for their employer regurgitating those books.
regularjack··on Trump temporarily drops tariffs to 10% for most countries
On specific products
regularjack··on The Insanity of Being a Software Engineer
All this is still way simpler than designing and building bridges, for example.
regularjack··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
Tax the billionaires and the behemoth corporations.
regularjack··on Overengineered Anchor Links
Incredible work, ignore the naysayers. As I was reading the article, I was thinking "this is hacker spirit". Well done.
