redml··on How to listen to (and delete) everything you've ever said to Google
If you've kept up with internet privacy news the last few years from things like the snowden or ashley madison scandals, how is it not your assumption that everything that is exposed to the internet is stored and indexed somewhere forever?
redml··on Reddit Presents: Upvoted
They've apparently learned nothing from digg v4 and why users flocked to their community in the first place
redml··on AVG can sell your browsing and search history to advertisers
they lost that sweet google deal and im guessing they're getting less from their deal with yahoo
redml··on How we cracked millions of Ashley Madison passwords
Hindsight is 20/20. Working on legacy software devs sometimes want to implement the proper solution on paper rather than the best one. Perhaps it was a task that the dev didn't get enough time to write something to update the passwords of a few million users. Perhaps they thought they'd come back to it in a few months and force a reset on users that hadn't switched their password yet. Who knows.
redml··on Google Will Soon Start Punishing Mobile Sites that Use Annoying App Install Ads
Those are particularly annoying when im halfway through reading and they popup out of nowhere. I'm surprised it's an effective tactic at all to annoy readers (it has to be effective if they're doing it).
redml··on Inside the Feminist Hackerspace
I've only ever seen anybody write "white dude" in a condescending and insulting tone, this article is no exception.

So... the author claims she doesn't like any special treatment that women sometimes get... but also doesn't want to be like a common, boring, ordinary "white dude"?

redml··on Wikipedia Is Steadily Losing Google Traffic
I'd maybe care if Wikipedia was a reliable source of unbiased information. It isn't. All kinds of extremist and special interest groups edit it to their own desires.
redml··on 14 Police Officers Take Down a One-Legged Homeless Black Man Outside Twitter HQ
A guy resisting arrest makes front page on hacker news because its near twitter HQ? Seriously?
redml··on Even when told not to, Windows 10 doesn't stop talking to Microsoft
At least with google I know they're trying to sell me ads and I'm the product.

With windows 10, I have to pay for the software, and somehow I'm still the product? I don't know their end game, and its really sketchy.

redml··on The ethics of modern web ad-blocking
Correct me if I'm wrong (because I don't live in the EU and can't verify this), but to comply with the cookie law websites started just displaying "we use cookies" in the header somewhere and didn't actually change anything. Meaning its the same as browsing the internet everywhere else you just get told that this is happening.
redml··on Open Code of Conduct
Let's tell everyone how to think and how to act instead of actually contributing something of actual use (like code) to the open source community.

This certainly won't backfire whatsoever.

redml··on Major Flaw in Android Phones Would Let Hackers in with Just a Text
What I got from the article is that this is a hangouts bug which is part of the closed ecosystem of google apps anyway
redml··on New York Times' Reddit Piece Shows Dangers of Internet Journalism
All that these professional victims do is drown out the voices of the actual victims.
redml··on Reddit Bans Five Communities In New Anti-Harassment Campaign
The only reason I have my doubts is the admins are banning several knock-off subreddits as "ban evasion". Essentially the idea of "fatpeoplehate" is banned from reddit, not the behavior of users or the moderators, which is contrary to the claims of the admins.
redml··on Reddit Bans Five Communities In New Anti-Harassment Campaign
The question is safe for who? Who are they trying to appease/attract to the site by changing it? They're just driving away their current userbase who likes things as they are.

The time to set boundaries was during the sites initial founding. It's a little late to have regrets.

redml··on Reddit Bans Five Communities In New Anti-Harassment Campaign
> if we help men with some of their problems with toxic masculinity

And this is why nobody takes you seriously.

redml··on Reddit Bans Five Communities In New Anti-Harassment Campaign
If the problem is "bullying", there's plenty of subreddits that exist solely to bully other subreddits. The administration are showing bias and bending around their own rules, but that's not really surprising for a site that shadowbans its users.
redml··on Don’t Be So Sure the Economy Will Return to Normal
The main problem is that we're way too productive for the amount of people we have. The best solution in my mind is cut the average job back from 8 hours to 4-6 hours, and have some very strict rules about overtime. You basically have to make it so its worth it for the larger companies to hire more people rather than squeeze what they can out of their exisiting workforce.
redml··on The male suicides: how social perfectionism kills
Using the word "Patriarchy" unironically gives away the fact you don't care about mens problems, because you're automatically blaming men for these problems.

You live in an age of abundance now, but 50 or so years ago you might be singing a different tune, and you can't reprogram society overnight without causing serious harm.

redml··on The male suicides: how social perfectionism kills
This is a product of the wrong people continuously trying to redefine masculinity to fit their own agenda, and most men are confused, shy, unattractive, have low self-esteem, are passive, etc. as a result of this.

These parties would rather men kill themselves over their identity crisis than those men rediscovering true masculinity - because they're afraid of the bad part. It's just the nature of things, Masculinity and Femininity both their good and bad parts, but we only shun one.
