rcstank··on General Motors Streetcar Conspiracy
Check out Stossel’s “Free Market Roads” on YouTube. It’s a fairly interesting report
rcstank··on Williams-Sonoma fined $3.18M for falsely labeling products 'Made in USA'
We need to legislate that any fines like this go back to customers instead of government /s
rcstank··on Amazon grows to over 750k robots, replacing 100k humans
Can you share your data on starvation in the US? I’m sincerely curious about it.
rcstank··on Amazon grows to over 750k robots, replacing 100k humans
Many people on UBI would be content enough to not search for more work.
rcstank··on Amazon grows to over 750k robots, replacing 100k humans
They won’t be selling anything by that point.
rcstank··on Amazon grows to over 750k robots, replacing 100k humans
Who would create the weights that balance this system?
rcstank··on The Amazon forest has an almost 3x year-on-year increase in fires in February
This opens up forms of other abuse.
rcstank··on Latest ChatGPT 4 System prompt (1,700 tokens)
Removing "photorealistic" might improve the prompt. Photorealism is another art style. Try including "Photo" instead with a specific camera type, lighting (3 point lighting, 35mm, 80mm, etc.
rcstank··on Switch off bad TV settings
I’d rather spend the time “hacking” something fun than a smart TV. My time is better spent elsewhere
rcstank··on Tinnitus linked to undetected auditory nerve damage
This actually relieves my tinnitus for a short period of time. Humming as loud as I can with my Eustachian tubes open would cause my tinnitus to either disappear or be imperceptible for about 3-5 seconds. It's such a relief that when my tinnitus gets really bad, I'll find I need to do it several times.
rcstank··on Wired has removed "How Google alters search queries" story
It’s a comment on an Internet forum with the name of company written with a typo. Clearly an opinion comment.
rcstank··on Wired has removed "How Google alters search queries" story
It reads as more of an opinion than accusation. What’s wrong with an opinion?
rcstank··on HTTP/3 adoption is growing rapidly
What all is in that script? I'd love to have it. Sincerely, another dev abused by Zscaler.
rcstank··on Redfin Is Leaving the National Association of Realtors
There’s another word for that: cartel
rcstank··on Show HN: A map that tells you if a NYC cafe has WiFi, a restroom, and an outlet
Why is it a requirement?
rcstank··on Inflation Bites U.S. Engineering Salaries
I don’t want it. I’m fine with how my compensation currently works.
rcstank··on FDA approves first nonprescription daily oral contraceptive
Is this not a slippery slope fallacy?
rcstank··on When an app asks for permissions, it should have a “feed fake data” option
If users see value from your product after providing real data, they won’t provide fake data. There’s no reason for certain apps to request for permissions to data that in turn provide no value to the product.
rcstank··on When an app asks for permissions, it should have a “feed fake data” option
Legislation will just hurt the little guys trying to start up. Once so much red tape is involved, it’s very difficult for innovation and competition.
rcstank··on 5.3B Mobile Phones Will Become Waste in 2022
Not too ironic considering many are too young to have phones, or too poor to have them.
rcstank··on GUI development with Rust and GTK 4
In a project with many developers, it's hard to resolve conflicts with generated XML. For example, iOS and Android have been moving towards a declarative approach with Swift UI / Compose.
rcstank··on SpaceX Starship rocket explodes minutes after launch from Texas
How is it not engineering? They engineered it to clear the launch pad, and it did.
rcstank··on Study: Scotland’s minimum pricing linked to 13% drop in alcohol-related deaths
Is this because less people consumed alcohol due to cost? A percentage means nothing without the underlying data. Most of this is behind a paywall so I can't find their study.

Study: Banning alcohol linked to 99% drop in alcohol-related deaths.

rcstank··on Ken Thompson's 75 year project: A century of popular music in a jukebox [video]
What’s wrong with other people agreeing? Maybe they like Linux too. Also, why does it matter to you if people have a different opinion?
rcstank··on DuckDuckGo Launches DuckAssist
Maybe startpage? I'm also looking for something. That has scratched my itch thus far, but not sure if there are better alternatives.
rcstank··on SimCity launched a decade ago, and it was so disastrous it killed the series
The title makes it sound like the SimCity franchise, which started in what, 1989?
rcstank··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
This response reeks of entitlement.
rcstank··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
It's $8.25/mo if you save up for it each year.
rcstank··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
They don't have to structure it any other way. It's their product. It's their offering. There are alternatives whether you like them or not.

I'm not saying I'm happy that it's so closed. I wish it weren't, but I also respect that they have their own freedom to choose as well.

rcstank··on Apple doesn’t want you developing hobby apps
> All of this just smells of greed.

Apple is a for profit company.

I could turn this around and say that it's greedy to expect a company to offer these tools for free. There's an investment on their end as well.
