rbbydotdev··on Constraint Decay: The Fragility of LLM Agents in Back End Code Generation
This is interesting, anecdotally I have felt like I was having better luck with raw sqlite than using an ORM in a recent typescript project, using raw sqlite queries vs drizzle
rbbydotdev··on Show HN: Files.md – Open-source alternative to Obsidian
Shameless plug of a similar project (of mine), feature rich, static publishing, version control, local first, no backend required, free, open and no sign ups:

https://github.com/rbbydotdev/opal

rbbydotdev··on Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid
> Strong Federal privacy laws would make posts like this unnecessary, that’s the world I’d rather live in.

Amen.

rbbydotdev··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
Opal: Browser first feature-rich markdown editor, workspace and publisher

- https://opaledx.com - https://github.com/rbbydotdev/opal

No logins or sign-ups, totally free, MIT Open Source

Integrates with git and github, publishes to aws, github, netlify, vercel, cloudflare, great drag and drop image integration

rbbydotdev··on GitHub Is Sinking
I wasn't expecting to see the outages being nearly the same even before the 2023 ai inflection point
rbbydotdev··on Zed Editor Theme-Builder
Cool to see all the progress with Zed, but it feels a bit too tied to user accounts. Prominent 'Sign In' buttons and ads like 'Try our new agentic...' They do have to make money and that's fine - but too often incentives start out this way and begin to corrupt the application...

Whats next, ads inside file searches? (ubuntu blundered this way and soured the community) - "LQQKING for something? try new ai search by blah blah corp!"

So it's hard to 'invest' my time tweaking my editor and theme only to have it start to betray me in the future. VSCode has already gone down this path - signing commit messages with 'copilot'

rbbydotdev··on The Disappearance of the Public Bench
I recently took a trip to Salamanca Spain, the sight of a regular bench, in the city center, without hostile anti sleeping measures. It was funny, something so plain could so be jarring to see. Could very well have been an elephant on the via.
rbbydotdev··on I want to live like Costco people
when you consider the setup and infrastructure going to and fro the mega warehouse of dry and perishable goods, also considering the required equipment, (a sedan, or large car) - It begins to become apparent the genesis of costco largely rises out of Americas car culture and suburbia.

Alternatively elsewhere, small shops, many locally owned, butchers, vendors convenience stores replace the existence of 'costco'

In these facts, I dont know if its necessarily a bad thing, but there is something empty, soulless and anti social about it.

Maybe a few grape tomatoes for thought between the world salad of this article, "cognitive pattern. It is a jarring thoughtscape, remarkably compelling and nondiscursive and utterly hard to shake." - That is what the author too is getting at?

rbbydotdev··on From Supabase to Clerk to Better Auth
Do you think the complexity of auth in the browser, is because browsers don't do enough?
rbbydotdev··on From Supabase to Clerk to Better Auth
Tom's articles are always a good read.

Anyone remember Auth0 and passportjs?

The churn of auth services is never ending, but I suppose so are the standards.

rbbydotdev··on VS Code inserting 'Co-Authored-by Copilot' into commits regardless of usage
So GitHub reached its tipping point, I guess vscode will follow
rbbydotdev··on The West forgot how to make things, now it’s forgetting how to code
Needn’t worry, such incompetencies are rooted out by the 8th or 9th round of interviews.
rbbydotdev··on Scoring Show HN submissions for AI design patterns
time to add plugins to hn, automated measure of ai comments and submissions to be the first ;)
rbbydotdev··on MerJS: A Zig-native web framework that ships without Node
big fan of this project, been following on x. heads up, there's some escaping issue on the website, for instance " \u{00d7} 2 \u{2014}"
rbbydotdev··on Cal.com is going closed source
I honestly was surprised with the response I got, for what was basically a Sunday hack project: https://github.com/rbbydotdev/someday

I think people really like how it's free (runs on google app scripts) and open source.

I've personally moved onto google's free gmail calendar scheduling tool, which strangely took pretty long to come to market. Calendly stretches back to ... 2013?

Scheduling, oddly feels a little niche (maybe less so today?), when it shouldn't be. Maybe there some more opportunity there.

rbbydotdev··on Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data
> ...he briefly attended a pro-Palestinian protest. In April 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sent Google an administrative subpoena requesting his data.

incredible.

rbbydotdev··on AI ruling prompts warnings from US lawyers: Your chats could be used against you
… and this is not okay right?
rbbydotdev··on I wrote to Flock's privacy contact to opt out of their domestic spying program
it would be nice if flock did not and could not exist
rbbydotdev··on Ransomware Is Growing Three Times Faster Than the Spending Meant to Stop It
I wonder what kinds of market hypotheses you could derive from the game theory here
rbbydotdev··on Lisette a little language inspired by Rust that compiles to Go
Looks beautiful! Any plans to make it self compile?
rbbydotdev··on Cursor 3
I don't agree with this direction. There is entirely too much cognitive load in the interface. The challenge now is how to distill the massive output and information of agent work - this is just surfacing it all to you
rbbydotdev··on Show HN: Apfel – The free AI already on your Mac
Would really love to see a web api standard for on device llms. This could get us closer. Some in-browser language model usage could be very powerful. In the interim maybe a little protocol spec + a discovery protocol used with browser plugins, web apps could detect and interface with on-device llms making it universally available.
rbbydotdev··on Good code will still win
The wrinkle here is what exactly “win” means
rbbydotdev··on We haven't seen the worst of what gambling and prediction markets will do
It's tough, because I think outlawing 'vices' like gambling is an infringement on your individual freedom - but when it's done with an enterprise it's so much more problematic. Thinking about for instance tobacco companies vs locally grown in the backyard.
rbbydotdev··on Show HN: Email.md – Markdown to responsive, email-safe HTML
Admonitions are :::, allows you do to do things like this, if you have custom parser, if not, your admonitions can fail gracefully as plain text

Nice usage of admonitions. This is a great example of how eloquent markdown can be. Still very readable while even including the markup for 'footer' and the call out code.
rbbydotdev··on Just-bash: Bash for Agents
It’s cool to see this project and others pop up. Virtualizing os primitives like bash and even file systems

You can interface around the nodejs files system interface and have access to some nice tools, like git isomorphic for instance. Then obviously everything couples nicely with agents.

Something I did in my markdown editor project: https://github.com/rbbydotdev/opal

Have half a mind to release a browser kit which unifies the file tree explorer and virtual file apis and libs in the browser

rbbydotdev··on Danish government agency to ditch Microsoft software (2025)
An EU Linux distro could be interesting
rbbydotdev··on Hetzner Prices increase 30-40%
How long before we invent a currency pegged to compute cycles
rbbydotdev··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
I never understood why Tesla HAD to get rid of the Lidars. Expensive today sure, but can you imagine all that training data they missed out on? Technology has a way of becoming cheaper and cheaper. It seemed short sighted, even if at a loss, again, the training data.

If the pros of having a camera are monumental, then couldn't the video and lidar be combined to be even greater?
