rawoke083600··on TmuxAI: AI-Powered, Non-Intrusive Terminal Assistant
I do love this, but haven't managed to actually try it out. ( I stopped trying and moved on)

But well done for launching (the following is not hate, but onboarding feedback)

Who else had issues about API key ?

1. What is a TMUXAI_OPENROUTER_API_KEY ?? (is like an OPENAI key) ?

2. If its an API key for TMUXAI ? Where do I find this ? Can't see on the website ? (probably haven't searched properly, but why make me search ?)

3. SUPER simple instructions to install, but ZERO (discoverable) instructions where/how to find and set API key ??

4. When running tmuxai instead of telling me I need an API key. How about putting an actual link to where I can find the API key.

Again well done for launching... sure it took hard word and effort.

rawoke083600··on Why F#?
I'm waiting for the excellent F# Article about railroad-coding to be posted here. Required F#e reading :) No not trolling. Am on mobile and traveling else I would have searched-posted

Congrats on launch !

We sell CMMS (Maintenance Software) for physical assets, "Corrective Maintenance" and "Planned Preventive Maintenance"

Our main clients are usually restaurants (KFC, JAVAHouse etc).

I did try a few queries to discover similar places:

* Companies with more than 10 physical branches like restaurants or banks (We don't yet support this query)

rawoke083600··on SVG Triangle of Compromise
Actually there is very important 4th point about implementation (browser)

A few years ago a made a Monopoly-Deal-Clone game using mostly SVG + CSS + Svelte.

I was intrigued by the promise of SVG:

  - Loss-Less Scaling

  - Looks the same (or somewhat) the same on all browsers

  - Text would also scale and be readable up and down.

Build playing cards on the fly with SVG elements dynamically (base-card-svg + text + icon/image/glyph)

All of these were never true-enough even for even a card-based game.

The SVG text never looked good-enough or readable at all sizes used. Depending on scaling the text/icons and lines got blurred worse.

The "fix" for many of these were endless and browser version-dependent magic-css properties and values.

TL;DR I wouldn't use SVG for more than 50% of your game or professional product that uses images/visual-elements. Its not worth the pain and effort !

rawoke083600··on Show HN: ThinkPost – split-panel note taking & brainstorming app for devs
Well done on launching :)

But I'm having some major GUI issues:

1. Icon-Button-Click-Area: Click on the STAR (Panel Type) I can only activate it via putting the mouse cursor at the left bottom of icon/button. Putting my cursor RIGHT on top in the middle does not activate it.

2. Panel-Split: Not sure if its related to 1, but I could only ever managed to figure out how to split my left horizontally plane once. Trying to split the right panel also like this, proved to be impossible (for me)

3. Sluggish-Feel: This could def be related to 1, but there seems to be a general delay between action(if it fires) and visual feedback

Suggestions:

  * Re-look at GUI and make it more predictable/familiar in terms of interaction
  (click-area, feedback,speed)

  * Templates-For-Tab: Would be nice when creating a new tab, I could pre-select from a few templates, silly examples follows:

   - 4 box splits),
   - 2 vertical splits,
   - 3-splits (image, code, text)
b) GUI-Feedback: Just to make it feel more responsive.

c) Use-Cases: I do like the free-form-thinking with wide constraints ntoe taking idea. I can even see it being used for: WebToon-Layouts, Storyboards, User-Testing, Use-Cases etc.

Again Congrats On Launching ! It's 90% of the challenge !

EDIT: Google Chrome Linux

rawoke083600··on Show HN: A cartoon intro to how the attention mechanism works
Really cool ! What did you make the cartoon with ?
rawoke083600··on Hotwire: HTML Over The Wire
why does this matter ?
rawoke083600··on When do we stop finding new music?
I've found two somewhat surprising effective ways for new music discovery:

1. Spotify Weekly Discover (personalized) ~ Still can't work their silly UX, but their recomms are good. Is it time yet for "Bring Your Own Client" to their API ??

2. Online Communities: Many a twitch streamer has music bots or accept music request while streaming. Has been a great source for new discovery.

rawoke083600··on Project Bluefin Linux
Even if it does "say so clearly" you have quite a bit of data and users, claiming they can't find or are confused.

One can be right and die on this hill, or be thankful that you have the feedback to make it better.

rawoke083600··on Long gone, DEC is still powering the world of computing
My 14 year old self DREAMED of owning a DEC Alpha64 !!

I remember it being on the cover of LinuxJournal around 90's I could think/desire nothing else for 6 months :(

RIP!

Lol but for real today for the first time when browsing new laptops I was looking for high vram because of llm.

rawoke083600··on Zero-Downtime Hetzner Deploys with Ansible
Everytime Hetzner comes up I tried to make the comment hoping it reaches the right ppl !

Hetzner has THE BEST UX for their cloud-vps stuff. Please don't change a thing, just for the sake of changing something. Looking at "YOU Spotify !" Compared to most of the other cloud vendors, its refreshingly simple and elegant ! Good job whoever did it, now the job is to KEEP it like that.

Happy customer for about 1.5 years now.

rawoke083600··on Railway Oriented Programming
I love that this comes up every few years, it's really a briljant article and talk.

What is also interesting, I'm usually at a "different place" in my tech-journey, in terms of skill or philosophy every time I re-read.

rawoke083600··on Htmx is part of the GitHub Accelerator
I just love that you had the "guts" to start a project that sends HTML via ajax from the server at the height of JSON/JS/Framework Mania (hey it pays my bills).

Project is really cool, I'm itching to use it in the right side project.

Congrats on shipping !

Oh yea the https://htmx.org/essays as the author mentioned is also fantastic. Their twitter is "fun" :D

rawoke083600··on GPTBot – OpenAI’s Web Crawler
I can also (depending on industry) see a dual model (freemium vs paid):

If (generally) more data is better. As a site owner I might be happy to give free access to most of my public data and urls. You be at the mercy of my sites unique formatting and hiccups

But for some fee, I might be happy to provide api-like data access to some of my historic data that are more rich with information and promised some sort of format-encoding (AI-JSON ?)

The economics I think are still currently be discovered.

rawoke083600··on GPTBot – OpenAI’s Web Crawler
oh 100% The hoops our current generation has jumped through(including me) to make abs sure google can index your site ! I think for some mental-models or product-segments (like software vendor example) it's definitely essential to be part of the new paradigm of information-access
rawoke083600··on GPTBot – OpenAI’s Web Crawler
Ahh DarkHatAI-Patterns almost like DarkHat SEO-Techniques.
rawoke083600··on GPTBot – OpenAI’s Web Crawler
Man what a time we live in :) It's like history is being written (ok compiled & backpropagated) right under our feet !

I can see a bots.txt entry in the near future that discern the site's data-usage for bots vs humans

>more deep thinking time will compound enormously over a career

Damn that's kinda nice, never thought about the "compounding effect" of as you call it "deep thinking", I can 100% see how that be !

rawoke083600··on Edsger Dijkstra’s One-Day Workweek
That's probably true for authors as well (not that I am one).
