ratsimihah··on Ask HN: I’m New to Computer Science and Engineering. Any Advice?
You won't be doing much if any any electrical engineering if you end up doing software engineering, but it can be useful if you're hacking on side projects, e.g. Arduino. And as other mentioned, the best way to learn computer science is to build stuffs on the side, that will give you a huge edge when entering the job market too.
ratsimihah··on Darebee – A database of workouts
Very cool! The keyboard warrior routine looks a lot like my yoga handstand warmup routine, will be interesting to apply to keyboard as well.
ratsimihah··on Ask HN: How to get back in employment market after working on side projects?
Clean-up + open-source side projects you don't want to monetize, they'll be your portfolio.

Apply to jobs, show your GH, get hired.

The lack of empathy in her voice is chilling

> I think successful musicians already know this struggle so luckily I kept struggling through the hard parts.

Love the analogy, it does feel like that with music indeed!

ratsimihah··on Show HN: A 64-step drum sequencer I built using React and Redux
Yasss! I love how this illustrates the fact that anyone can get into coding.

I've tried helping career-stuck people learning to code and build apps, but I've found it difficult teaching them everything from the ground up.

As a mostly self taught developer, I do believe it's just matter of dedication and sheer will though, and thank you for proving that right.

ratsimihah··on Ask HN: How many projects do you work on at a time?
couchmate is looking good! Does it generate any revenue?
ratsimihah··on Ask HN: How many projects do you work on at a time?
My ongoing projects include a web app (https://cover.yoga - WIP), a mobile app with a website (https://sheepdiary.com - WIP), another mobile app (https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/beat-yoga/id1505203964 - revamp ongoing, although I forgot to renew the domain name beat.yoga and lost it), and a few non-technical projects (an online business bootstrapping YT channel, i.e. how to do it all yourself without raising money, and a yoga classes YT channel). I also want to start learning ethereum development and build something there. That's in addition to a full-time job. Hard to finish everything, but also hard to just focus on one thing.

Really enjoying this thread, feels like we're a community sharing the same problem.

ratsimihah··on Microsoft in talks to buy Discord for more than $10B
To second that I think Discord's been publishing stuff about high scale concurrency so I'd think they spent quite some time and intelligence getting that right, and it's not trivial.
ratsimihah··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses in 2021?
This will be a new business from scratch, built with the community. I'm thinking about using a sleep diary app I've already mostly built
ratsimihah··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses in 2021?
That's a good idea thanks! I'll get in touch
ratsimihah··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses in 2021?
I'll be starting a Youtube channel shortly about solo bootstrapping a tech business around a mobile app and everything that's involved, from idea validation to implementation, launch and marketing. Let me know if that's everything you're interested in
ratsimihah··on How much math you need for programming (2014)
Not much it seems. Concepts like logarithmic and exponential growth can be found everywhere, maybe one just needs the right approach to grasp them. I can't think of much more that's needed to become a decent programmer.
ratsimihah··on Why can’t you buy a good webcam?
Got a Sony hybrid camera that's basically plug and play after you install some software. It does 4k and event though most video conf tools only allow 720p, the image comes out stunning.
ratsimihah··on Apple apps on Big Sur bypass some firewalls and VPNs
I see a bright future for Linux.
ratsimihah··on Anki as Learning Superpower: Computer Science Edition
I think Anki helps build the necessary knowledge base to make such connections, but actually making those connections comes with putting that knowledge into practice.

ratsimihah··on The majority of 18- to 29-year-olds in the US are now living with their parents
I've lived my 20s far away from home, and having moved back in in my 30s now, even if it took some time amd awkwardness, my parents understand I've grown and changed and they respect my need for space and intimacy.
ratsimihah··on Show HN: High performance X11 animated wallpapers
This looks great! Too bad it gives me a headache.
ratsimihah··on Laws of UX
Can you disable horizontal scrolling on the menu on mobile please
ratsimihah··on [dead]
That's how I noticed as well. Shouldn't take too long to fix I imagine.

ratsimihah··on A Woman Who Needed to Be Upside-Down (2012)
That happens with lightning cables too sadly.
ratsimihah··on Music Grid
There's no going back.
ratsimihah··on Launch an App
Sounds like messaging would be the next logic iteration for this app to grow indeed. It's async and not too intrusive to solve this issue.

Regardless, very neat project and execution, hope it gets where you want it to!

ratsimihah··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
Music together: https://boomroom.co

Yoga music: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/beat-yoga/id1505203964

ratsimihah··on Ask HN: Have you been laid off?
The good thing is you already have the H1B, so it's easier than having to go through the lottery.

My advice would be to hope for the best but expect the worst. In other words, keep applying to jobs super aggressively, but at the same time, start packing to leave, if there aren't other options.

ratsimihah··on Ask HN: Have you been laid off?
Indeed, funding is going to be frozen for a while.
