To think that by the size of his channel he would put someone in charge of this. Perhaps the "guys, gals and non-binary pals, I'll see you next time" came from someone telling he was not inclusive enough when saying goodbye?

We code for ourselves. We deliver value to the costumer. Two different things.
Publishers should just offer a free e-book of said language, and make it a requirement.
Unless you got an idea for the equivalent of a flamin hot cheetos, my advice is go climb it.
I remember when I had a stellar year at a big corp. My manager said `nothing bad to report, wow`. I was ready for that S - a Special automatically meant a promotion.
A few weeks later, when the whole R&D got the performance letter, I received mine with a C. D usually meant `demitido`, or fired in portuguese. I couldn't believe it, and I kept that letter through many years, just as a reminder of how you can get screwed by things that are not in your power.
A few years later, when I saw the letter, I had a much better job, and was much happier. No good could come from seeing that letter from time to time, so I threw it away.

Agreed, getting on private trackers - and surviving - is non-trivial, and don't think I could do it today (uploading, contributing). But once you do on the really big and important ones, you are set for life.
The really big difference for me here in Brazil, is that I can communicate to someone in case the route is bad, something is stolen, etc. Taking a cab is so ephemeral that I don't even have time to complain or ask for help.
Second exam was 85/100, the highest between C.S. and Automation Engineer (both lectured by that first professor). While I do agree that a good teacher can pave the way for a good student, I think most of the work you have to do it yourself, as if your life depend on it (mine did).
So one skill to acquire in 2020 can be let go of FOMO.
