rahkiin··on Austrian ministry kicks out Microsoft in favor of Nextcloud
That’s not very secure, giving a :latest container access to the docker socket…
rahkiin··on The Swift SDK for Android
Vulkan with glsl to spirv compiler would be equivalent
rahkiin··on State-based vs Signal-based rendering
Game engines do not own their main loop anymore either. A lot of host platforms are event based now, including ios, macos, android, web, and to a lesser extend windows. This means you tell the host ‘call this function every X milliseconds’. This also means you do not have full control of a main loop and you get event calls. It is moving more towards event based like in web:) it prevents lockups
rahkiin··on The reason GCC is not a library (2000)
https://lwn.net/Articles/262570/ Is what I found
rahkiin··on Tahoe's Elephant
Could you elaborate why you think this banana price comic is related?
rahkiin··on The App Store was always authoritarian
I’d love to be able to clean up the shitty touch interface on my oven.
rahkiin··on OpenAI Is Just Another Boring, Desperate AI Startup
That can’t be right. It is not that long at all.
rahkiin··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
Isn’t that the government promoting government programs (the ACA)?
rahkiin··on Show HN: Lingo – A linguistic database in Rust with nanosecond-level performance
Out of interest: can you elaborate how you analyzed the repo to come to this conclusion?
rahkiin··on What's New in C# 14: Null-Conditional Assignments
These null checks are actually for Optionals in the type system. The whole standard library and many better packages use nullability and thus indicate what can and cannot be null ever. And structs can never be null.

So no, c# are not constantly null-checking more than in Rust

rahkiin··on Ten Years of D3D12
Dx12 was release 2 years before Vulkan… And there are plenty of advantages to having control over an API instead of putting it in some slow external organization without focus
rahkiin··on AMD claims Arm ISA doesn't offer efficiency advantage over x86
Apple was a very early investor in ARM and is one of the few with a perpetual license of ARM tech
rahkiin··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
Cryptocurrencies do not solve any issues described above. It even solves fewer of them as there is no bank giving you support or giving back insured money
rahkiin··on Next.js is infuriating
This is the real advice.

Do what gets the actual job done: focus on the selling, not the tech of the shop. Grab a template and adjust it to fit your marketing.

Actual useful tech is integration with a printer/printshop. Or getting packaging labels automatically for orders. Or using AI to make new posters.

rahkiin··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
In the netherlands we do not have physical branches anymore. They died out. All banking started to go through browser. This was very sensitive to malware and viruses, so two-factor was added through phones. Then less and less people had PCs because phone provides enough. Now mobile apps for banking is the only way to do banking. Or it is required for MFA. Even if you’re calling with the bank it is used as MFA
rahkiin··on The Deletion of Docker.io/Bitnami
It is sad to see how Broadcom cannot do padding right for mobile…

But on topic: why not create docker.io/bsi and let /bitnami as is without new updates? Then nothing breaks; it just won’t be possible to do upgrades. You’ll then figure out why and possibly seamlessly switch to your own build or BSI.

rahkiin··on Everything I know about good API design
If api keys do not need to ve stateless, every api key can become a refresh token with a full permission and validity lookup.
rahkiin··on Everything I know about good API design
Inthink they are talking about refresh token or Api Keys like PATs. Some value you pass in a header and it just works. No token flow. And the key is valid for months and can be revoked
rahkiin··on Looking back at my transition from Windows to Linux
Would the Office 365 in browser work for you?
rahkiin··on Waymo granted permit to begin testing in New York City
Ah that is easy here. 1) civilian vehicles never get leeway 2) we know the license plates of all police cars so we just filter it. Or actually only do so when they use proper permission to run a light
rahkiin··on Waymo granted permit to begin testing in New York City
Sounds like NJ has some terrible drivers
rahkiin··on Waymo granted permit to begin testing in New York City
In europe we use traffic cameras for this. Going through red light? A bill is in your mailbox automatically. No need for a whole police station.
rahkiin··on The Minecraft Code (2024) [video]
I think it is the fun of working towards simple goals, in a restricticed visual environment, in a gamified way. The challenge is the restriction. Starting with and and or gates while at work you would be writing CRUD
rahkiin··on How we exploited CodeRabbit: From simple PR to RCE and write access on 1M repos
Writing to PR branches should really be some new kind of permission.
rahkiin··on GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation
Can run SDL on linux and macos just fine, rendering visuals to the screen in X or Wayland.
rahkiin··on GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation
I do not understand the hungup on visual studio.

We dont do the same for java, rust, or c… there are good IDEs for each of them and none are made by the maintainers of the language.

rahkiin··on GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation
VsCode is in a weird licensing limbo, or some of its microsoft plugins are anyway
rahkiin··on POML: Prompt Orchestration Markup Language
It just says the current agent ecosystem is focused on python and javascript stacks?
rahkiin··on At 17, Hannah Cairo solved a major math mystery
Normally you have a master of science as well. And for that you require a bachelors. So to do it directly you need to do it all at once?
rahkiin··on Steam, Itch.io are pulling ‘porn’ games. Critics say it's a slippery slope
They should consider banning sale of the Bible and Game of Thrones from Amazon as well
