rafaelturk··on Twitter owner transition: Temporary ban on product updates after Elon Musk deal

rafaelturk··on De-AMP: Cutting out Google and enhancing privacy
Kudos! While reading this announcement I've learned upcoming AMP 2.x. Impressive that Google still pusing for AMP and as mentioned is even worse.
rafaelturk··on Etsy Strike
I'm afraid thats not how life works... *End the Star Seller Program*? Are serius? Star seller means exceptional service. What you're advocating is to reduce the overall quality of the platforms so bad sellers can be perceived just as good sellers.
rafaelturk··on Protect domains that do not send email
I'm puzzled that it's not the other way. Domains without MX, SPF, DMARC should not be trusted..

rafaelturk··on HR5874: Restoring Software Patents in the US
Now include new complicating factor: AI creating thousands of patients per day and you have a big mess. One that ends with no one being able to innovate.
rafaelturk··on The Invisible JavaScript Backdoor
Nice article, it was a fund reading it. Albeit I don't think this kind of attack is restricted to just JavaScript.
rafaelturk··on Is there any point in launching a search engine in 2021? Marc Benioff thinks so
Tapping into Bings Apis looks like a good plan to get started..
rafaelturk··on Embedded Malware in Coa
I know npm feels like wild west, but you can audit. Its quite a challenge to review many of the C, C++, libraries out there that are just a .zip file stored in a website.

My point is that: Npm is auditable, trackable.

I'm not challenging the bug itself, neither the security issue..

Question for all folks downvoting this. How do you perform same audits with C++ libraries? CocoaPods? Pip?
rafaelturk··on Embedded Malware in Coa
As bad as this may sound, this is why a love Open Source, npm and the JavaScript ecosystem. It super easy to audit and check the code.

What is missing is more automated and recurrent checks in all the packages and downstream dependencies.

rafaelturk··on France moves to shield its book industry from Amazon
GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation; Europe's complex privacy regulations was meant to curb Google and Facebook abuse of cookies, data and power.

It only made it harder for smaller startups or other companies to compete. Meanwhile Bigh Tech, suported by expensive legal, Design and marketing teams evated all new the regulatory burden.

Overall GDPR only made Google and Facebok more powerful, and introduced a new legal barrier to challenger startups. Hence helps to consolidate even more their power.

And Finally to make it even worse now everyone has to deal with that stupid consent cookie banner in every single website..

rafaelturk··on IPv6 Progress Top Sites 2021
I'm puzzled Canva.com is top 25?! kudos
rafaelturk··on France moves to shield its book industry from Amazon
My experience tells me that the practical outcome of this new regulation is that shipping will become more expensive for books.

It will not prevent customers to stop shopping online, so no effect for legacy bookstore.s

Like most goverment proposed solutions: This will actually create a new problem not fix the origintal intented cause.

rafaelturk··on Show HN: I built a fake VS Code to browse live cricket score in office
Fake VS Code everywhere!
rafaelturk··on Hooks are the best thing to happen to React

rafaelturk··on Investors use AI to analyse CEOs’ language patterns and tone
kkk lovely. AI full circle
rafaelturk··on Investors use AI to analyse CEOs’ language patterns and tone
Next step: CEOs to stop attending quarterly earnings releases. IR meetings to become boring, with just the CFO reading numbers.

If I recall: Steve Jobs rarely attended IR events, Jeff Bezos just sent a letter in advance (note: beautifully written), but barely made live comments. Future guidandes are often released as `something between +30% increase or -30% decrease`, meaning useless.

My impression is that nowadays most PRs and releases are already meticulously reviewed. Quite an interesting paradox: The more regulations, rules, controls and surveys are introduced less detailed and exciting releases and disclosures are..

rafaelturk··on MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch
I was falling in love for this new macBook until I saw the notch. They had to add a notch to the screen. Why?!
rafaelturk··on PostgreSQL 14 on Kubernetes
You can create a service point to the `pod` tag. Or a manifest.
rafaelturk··on PostgreSQL 14 on Kubernetes
We run all our databases in K8S, approx 80 DBs. We're a fintech that requires HA so all databases run with at least 3 notes. Maging DB clusters with K8S only requires 1 file.

If we need to increase storage this can be achieved in minutes, if we need to take one node down we basically can do it anytime during the day..

Every now and then we discuss moving DBs to AWS RDS (or equivalent) however for our transaction volume RDS costs are prohibitive.

rafaelturk··on Ampere Altra Max 128-Core CPU Is Priced Lower Than Flagship Xeon, EPYC CPUs
Is extremely complex process to just `cut` a die, latter needs packaging. Why Ampere a company just entering the market is creating such a complex pricing matrix?
rafaelturk··on Ampere Altra Max 128-Core CPU Is Priced Lower Than Flagship Xeon, EPYC CPUs
I'm still puzzled: Ampere list show at least 16 SKUs, imagine dealing with 16 different fabs, circuits, packages, specs, sales.

This feels like Intel marketing shenanigans from 2000's..

Having this insane number of different is a common marketing stuff, that nowdays I found hard to belive ads any value to a business. Moreover, given the current Fab issues, and supply constraints keeping a clean & simple fabrication process, distribution, and sales pipeline actually is an advantage.

Can't help remembering Steve Jobs famous quote when re-gained controll of Apple. 4 producs Matrix: Consumer, Pro vs Portable, Desktop.

Again kudos for Apple: That continues to design one or maybe two CPUs per year and heavily optimizes, efficiency, scale, logistics, etc.
