radicalriddler··on Cloudflare crawl endpoint
Interesting... I built an MCP server for their initial browser render as markdown, and I just tell the LLM to follow reasonable links to relative content, and recurse the tool.
radicalriddler··on PlanetScale Offering $5 Databases
I notice that PlanetScale has a Developer Educator position available. Has anyone sent that to Aaron Francis yet? He might be interested.
radicalriddler··on PlanetScale Offering $5 Databases
This is really good!

After they ditched there free tier, it became basically untenable to justify trying Planetscale for $30 (USD as well) on a POC or MVP product, and it also felt like you were paying a lot for unneeded hardware.

radicalriddler··on Indefinite Backpack Travel
I went backpacking last year for only a little over a month. Absolute pain in my chest when someone who I'd gotten to known over the past few days said it was their last day lol.
radicalriddler··on Claude now has access to a server-side container environment
I see this quite a lot via Copilot using Claude. It'll just get stuck on a token for a while.
radicalriddler··on Obsidian Bases
Obsidian just being markdown files

radicalriddler··on Show HN: The current sky at your approximate location, as a CSS gradient
You're like the caricature of what other social media platforms represent HN users to be.
radicalriddler··on Ozempic shows anti-aging effects in trial
It's not that it's going down, the article suggests that it slows.

If I lose 20 kilo's, my "biological age" might go down 2 years, but that doesn't mean it's "slowed"

radicalriddler··on .NET 10 Preview 6 brings JIT improvements, one-shot tool execution
I despise working with Nuget. Whether it's a restore, managing your csproj, or publishing packages, compared to NPM it's an absolute mess.
radicalriddler··on Estrogen: A Trip Report
I think about it like this...

Fundamentally, I believe it's how they want to be treated culturally, but in our society, we tie gender and sex so closely together, that to be treated the way you want to be treated culturally in society, you need to change some of the sex based features you have.

In a better society, a medical approach wouldn't be needed. In our society, we _should_ accept that it is.

That's my opinion, and it's a pretty weakly held opinion, someone could dissuade me from it.

radicalriddler··on Default styles for h1 elements are changing
Validation tools will also tell you if you have an H1 in a <section>, but no H1 outside of the section, because the <section> actually creates it's own scope, thus your page has no H1.
radicalriddler··on PackagePhobia – Find the cost of adding a new dev dependency to your project
Frankly bundlephobia gives me more information that I care about... "How much is the end user going to have to download, parse and execute".
radicalriddler··on PackagePhobia – Find the cost of adding a new dev dependency to your project
They says sponsored by Vercel and Upstash, but in the repo, it just says hosting and database "sponsored" by them. Are they just using the free tier???
radicalriddler··on uBlock Origin is no longer available on the Chrome Store
Yep. It isn't just a less usable web, it's a less safe web. But anything for those sweet ad dollars.
radicalriddler··on Knowing CSS is mastery to front end development
At this point, if you know how the box model works and the difference between margin and padding, you're ahead of 50% of "frontend developers".
radicalriddler··on Laravel Cloud
Annoying there's no sqlite option. Not enough money in it? Difficult?
radicalriddler··on Tools Worth Changing to in 2025
Bought a new Macbook recently and tried most of these. Ghostty seems really good. It _just works_. Helix is pretty cool, also feels like it _just works_ versus something like base nvim (although I'd start with kickstart.nvim). Maybe I should give Fish a go.

Zed's pretty much fully replaced VSCode on my Macbook, but that's not new, it's been my daily driver for months.

An honorable mention from me is Zellij. Feels a lot more user friendly to beginners than tmux.

radicalriddler··on Fun facts about SQLite
Agreed. I think I saw it on twitter, quick squiz of the first couple points and then closed it. Was surprised to see it on HN.
radicalriddler··on How do I pay the publisher of a web page?
Even modern currency isn't free of being a market for speculation.

It's not as extreme as cryptocurrency, but forex trading is a thing, and honestly the sways of USD to other currencies are meaninful enough to take into consideration when moving money internationally.

radicalriddler··on Fly.io outage – resolved
Literally says "Monthly Costs" in the green panel on the right that calculates the total.
radicalriddler··on PHP 8.4
The new Dom stuff looks really cool. I had to work with the previous functions a couple months ago and it was terrible. New API looks nice.
radicalriddler··on Show HN: Comprehensive authentication library for TypeScript
I mean, Cloudflare's done a lot of work in polyfilling a lot of node_compat stuff.

The only one is generally password hashing. At this point, I just run up a service binding to a rust worker and hash it over there.

radicalriddler··on Flux – The official Laravel Livewire component library
Laravel's answer to the popularity of that style of UI library.
radicalriddler··on Free Text-to-Speech App with natural voices
Ah it's definitely not (significantly cheaper than ElevenLabs), but I was expecting ElevenLabs to be better because I hadn't read (or seen anything suggesting) it was a worse model, but it makes sense.
radicalriddler··on Free Text-to-Speech App with natural voices
I've used this, and the main ElevenLabs service. The reader has to be using a very very cheap model, it sounds worse than the Azure service (which isn't bad).

It's better than traditional text to speech, but I can't use it to listen to long form articles.

radicalriddler··on Show HN: Get your website copy and design roasted
Enter should submit the form from the input. One of my biggest pet peeves. It's not even within a form tag :'(

WHY IS THE "SEE THE CODE ON GITHUB" NOT AN ANCHOR TAG! DO YOU UNDERSTAND BASIC SEMANTICS? DO YOU REALLY NEED TO NAVIGATE VIA JAVASCRIPT FOR A STATIC LINK? WHY CAN'T I MIDDLE CLICK TO OPEN IN A NEW TAB? BECAUSE YOU USED A BUTTON!

WHY IS THERE NO LABEL FOR THE MAIN INPUT. JUST CHUCK SR-ONLY ON THE LABEL ELEMENT, LINK IT TO THE INPUT, AT LEAST THEN IT'LL BE MILDLY ACCESSIBLE. PLACEHOLDERS AREN'T A 100% ANSWER TO DESCRIBE WHAT AN INPUT SHOULD BE DOING.

Don't get me started on the mobile design.

There. Non-LLM Roasts. But also some nitpicks. Otherwise, pretty cool.

radicalriddler··on Show HN: Affordable text-to-speech for long-form content
So I work on a similar project in my spare time, but have just settled for Azure's Text to Speech service.

What I'm actually interested in is your pricing model. Why do you have constraints on characters AND articles, versus just characters? Does doing the conversion cost a static amount that you don't want someone making 10000 requests a month? Or is the article count and hours of audio just an estimation of the 600,000 character limit?

If it's just an estimate of real usage of the actual 600,000 character limit, then I'd try and word it differently, otherwise I feel like I'm going to be heavily constrained by the platform.

radicalriddler··on Show HN: I made a tool to clean and convert any webpage to Markdown
I wonder if it's not following redirects well
radicalriddler··on Show HN: I made a tool to clean and convert any webpage to Markdown
Is this open sourced anywhere by any chance? Are you using GPT to do the conversion, or just doing it yourself by ways of HTML -> Markdown substitutions?
radicalriddler··on How to Start Google
Funnily enough, the fact that PG's website is archaic actually pushed me to parse a lot of legacy tags that I'd never had to use in that way.
