r32a_··on Ask HN: How has working remotely for long periods affected your social skills?
I find that creating a regime and structure is the only way to be able to work remotely in a sustainable way.

I have work hours and none work hours. I have a work out routine that makes me wake up early in the morning, which in turn makes me sleep at a reasonable time

I give myself lunch breaks that I use to go to the grocery store buy ingredients and cook good food.

I make plans for my after work hours to see friends, attend meetups..etc.

Working in an office setting you are forced into a structure, with working remotely you have to create your own structure.

r32a_··on Ask HN: "Creative" ways to handle abusive http traffic?
Proof of work system.

Require your clients to perform some amount of computation to do a request.

Something like this: https://www.npmjs.com/package/work-token

Thanks for picking that up!

I agree with you, we are exploring allowing law professionals join to become professional mediators and of course be compensated for their services.

The mediators could be spread around the world and they can even visit contract locations if it is required. These services already exist but for large transactions, think international trade.

r32a_··on Stochastic – Create and manage contracts backed by Bitcoin
Correct. During a dispute, there is no way around human intervention, unless A.I evolves to that point.

As it stands we just handle processing of multi-sig contracts

We are aware of the price volatility issue, this problem is widespread in all of crypto. There are ways around this issue this issue.

We are currently only doing fixed price contracts. However, it is possible to create other types of contracts like a Fixed Price + Variable contract. The variable can be the USD/BTC exchange rate and Stochastic can act as an Oracle to the smart contract.

I agree escrow and contracting application aren't anything new in Bitcoin but so far no one has been able to make it work.

As for Jury.online, I wish them success, but I don't think we are in the same space. I see Stochastic closer to traditional contract management software like Conga and GateKeeper

This is an example contract proposal.

Contractors must login to place a bid on this contract with their public key.

Real contracts on the application have very thorough proposals.

This is just a proof of concept.

Currently, Bitcoin has been operating fine for almost a decade and with a massive bounty for anyone that can break its system.

Technically you can still build a lot with Bitcoin's limited scripting language. The lightning network being one.

Thanks. Will do! :)

The contract proposal is entered by the contract owner, in a regular text field, we also allow you to submit attachments (PDF)

As for the Bitcoin transactions, it is multi-sig 2/2 then a multi-sig 2/3

This application doesn't make the current legal system obsolete! I don't envision anyone using Stochastic to do a multi-million dollar contract at least for the foreseeable future!

We are not doing an ICO, we are not even holding people's Bitcoin we only hold part of the keys to a contract, how can you consider this application a fraud, it's currently free to use. We may add paid features later on but it's free right now.

I agree with you on the topic of code is law can be a bad thing. But it can also have some positive aspects, like removing trusted 3rd parties! We are using Bitcoin Script, which unlike Solidity (Ethereum's smart contract language) it is very dumb, very strict and limited for the exact reason you stated.

r32a_··on Stochastic – Create and manage contracts backed by Bitcoin
You are correct!

Technically every Bitcoin transaction is a smart contract, the language of the contract is Bitcoin Script (Forth-like, stack-based language, https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Script).

Currently, we are only using P2WSH to create 2/2 and 2/3 Multi-sigs but in the future, we hope to create other types of contracts with different clauses and also an easy to use UI to accompany it.

We are also exploring to let the contractor and project owner decide who the mediator is.

Our goal is to make tools and services around Bitcoin that showcase some of it's features. There is more to Bitcoin than just HODL and trading.

We want to help tame the randomness :)

We will do our best to resolve any possible dispute, it is in our best interest that all parties are happy with the outcome of a dispute so they come back to use the application.

It will never happen, iMessage is one of the network effects of Apple/iPhone ecosystem.
r32a_··on The Brazen Bootlegging of a Multibillion-Dollar Sports Network
I remember back in early 2000s getting premium satellite tv for free was as easy as just installing a firmware on your STB. Eventually, the encryption got too hard and expensive to crack, so regular hackers stopped working on firmwares.
r32a_··on Bitcoin Sees Wall Street Warm to Trading Virtual Currency
How are people surprised by this? If Cryptocurrencies become huge, these banks will just buy up crypto companies and also point their resources at building cryptocurrency applications.

They are in the business of making money. If they can make money in crypto then they will do it.

I don't want bitcoin to go up, because it attracts the wrong type of people.

Bitcoin should go up when the technology is ready to handle the increase in demand. As it stands right now it's not ready yet.

If people want to store their investments into a much more centralised crypto currency like Eth then they can go ahead. not my problem. I also hear Ripple is pretty good at handling massive scale, same with Doge coin.

r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
It's about aligning your expectations. Do you know how the Bitcoin Core operates? They are extremely conservative. If you want Move fast and break things, then Bitcoin is not for you.
r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
Short sighted. How will Eth survive without Vitalik? Bitcoin has already passed that test.
r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
They have invested much more in alt coins than they have in Bitcoin.
r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
They could have handled it much better. It was very pathetic for a multi billion dollar company.

Also Coinbase has stated that they want bigger blocks. They have not contributed at all to the development of 2nd layer scaling like LN. They also took too long to finally adopt Segwit.

For Coinbase, it's much easier to increase the blocks. This means they don't have to invest in their own Bitcoin infrastructure to make it more efficient.

r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
Follow him on Twitter, it's pretty obvious by looking at the things he likes on there. Just today he liked some non sense that Roger Ver posted. Coinbase also wanted bigger blocks.

In an interview with bloomberg (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2017-12-07/coinbase-ce...), he didn't say that he thinks Eth is better but it's obvious that they are more bullish towards Eth. They have also built Toshi, a Dapp store for Eth.

Coinbase has become a giant on the back of the work of Bitcoin Core developers and will continue to do so however, they have given NOTHING back to Bitcoin Core. Not a single BIP, they don't sponsor any core developers and they are not helping at all with Lightening Network.

It's very easy for them to sit back and complain about the state of Bitcoin, but Bitcoin is an open source project and they have the money to invest some money into Bitcoin core to improve it. But they rather prefer to pump shit coins and engage in insider trading. In my opinion Armstrong doesn't care about Bitcoin, they are short sighted and don't believe in the long term vision of Bitcoin.

r32a_··on Coinbase Ventures
Armstrong is pretty anti-bitcoin and anti core and pro Ethereum and bitcoin cash.

Most likely they will invest in alt coins companies.
