quietsegfault··on CIA used "long-range quantum magnetometry" called "Ghost Murmur" in Iran
Earth’s geomagnetic noise fluctuations are on the order of nanoteslas (10^-9 T), which is 18 orders of magnitude above the signal they claim to have pulled out.

It’s below the thermal noise floor of any physical measurement system that obeys thermodynamics. You can’t engineer around it because it’s not an instrumentation problem. The signal is smaller than quantum noise limits at that scale. “AI” filtering doesn’t help when there’s no signal to filter. You can’t computationally recover energy that isn’t there.

This is certainly bullshit of the finest, most grassy and odorous caliber.

Believe it or not? Also AI!
quietsegfault··on Anthropic is burning more and more dev goodwill
Earlier today I had Claude manage a TV show downloading system, and then it hacked a NES rom for me, setting up a web site so my kid could just go to a page to play it. So, I guess it’s not uniform.
quietsegfault··on Got kicked out of uni and had the cops called for a social media website I made
Here’s where I think you went wrong:

1. IT Act 2000 — Section 66C / 66D (Identity Fraud / Impersonation) You student data and sent emails appearing to come from or relate to official IIT systems. The email notification system especially is sketchy. sending emails to official addresses using student identity data without consent borders on unauthorized use of identity/credentials.

2. IT Act 2000 — Section 43 (Unauthorized Access / Data Theft) Scraping student data from IIT Delhi’s internal systems without authorization is almost certainly a violation here. Section 43 covers unauthorized access to computer systems and extraction of data.

3. Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices) Rules, 2011 You collected and published sensitive personal data (romantic relationships, social associations) without consent, no privacy policy, no opt-out. This is a clear violation of the SPDI Rules under the IT Act.

4. Indian Penal Code Section 499/500 — Defamation The platform explicitly hosted rumors, gossip, and accusations (dating history, “haters”). Anonymous posts that damage reputation = defamation. As the platform operator and publisher, you have exposure. Unlike Twitter or Reddit, you’re not a passive host. You designed the romantic/social tagging features.

5. IPC Section 354D — Stalking The “crushing on / crushed on by” fields combined with the email notification system is very problematic. Enabling someone to anonymously tag another person and then notify them about it could constitute facilitation of stalking.

Also, it was simply uncool.

What’s interesting about it? Sassy kid acts without thinking, learns nothing. That’s the whole schtick.

What an asshole.
quietsegfault··on Issue: Claude Code is unusable for complex engineering tasks with Feb updates
I agree with you. I too complain about this same phenomenon with my colleagues, and we always arrive at the same conclusion: it’s probably us just expecting more and more over time.
quietsegfault··on Issue: Claude Code is unusable for complex engineering tasks with Feb updates
I’m not sure being confrontational like this really helps your case. There are real people responding, and even if you’re frustrated it doesn’t pay off to take that frustration out on the people willing to help.
quietsegfault··on OpenClaw privilege escalation vulnerability
It’s possible, and maybe even trivial, to hit a malicious website that tries to connect to the OpenClaw port on your local machine.

A malicious web page runs JavaScript that makes a fetch() or XMLHttpRequest to http://localhost:CLAWPORT — your browser executes that from your machine, so it bypasses your router/firewall entirely. If OpenClaw is listening on localhost with no auth, the browser just connects to it. Same-origin policy doesn’t save you because the request originates from your own machine.

This was my immediate thought - kernel doesn’t break software, or at least it didn’t used to.
quietsegfault··on Tell HN: Anthropic no longer allowing Claude Code subscriptions to use OpenClaw

quietsegfault··on Tailscale's new macOS home
Perhaps people who have many menubar icons are hare-brained and you should check to see how many icons they’ve got before you price your product for them to account for the support overhead.
quietsegfault··on Tailscale's new macOS home
I have never seen anyone with enough menu bar icons to have them hide, nor have I known anyone who ran into that problem. It’s a bug that should be fixed, but I just don’t think it’s as big of a deal as it’s made out to be.
quietsegfault··on IBM Announces Strategic Collaboration with Arm
No, IBM has Unisys contractors, not employees. All the techs I’ve worked with from IBM have been a nightmare. One dropped an entire drive array on the ground, and tried to install it despite it being bent and no longer fitting on the rack. I have been acquired by IBM twice. They are a nightmare, horrible company.
quietsegfault··on IBM Announces Strategic Collaboration with Arm
They exist to swallow up profitable companies, extract any “unnecessary” overhead (like benefits, PTO, pay that isn’t rock bottom), and package into large enterprise licensing agreements.
quietsegfault··on Building a Mostly IPv6 Only Home Network
The big issue I see is every enterprise has a solid numbering plan for RFC1918 networks. Unfortunately, many of them have the SAME plan, and when peering networking between SaaS vendors and customers was more popular (now, of course, privatelink seems to be the move) we constantly ran into conflicts. There's still the risk of conflict with IPv6, but I think if numbering decisions are made thoughtfully, they can be avoided.
quietsegfault··on Be careful: chatting with AI about your case is discoverable
That was my first thought. If the test is “talking to a lawyer”, and all tools not directly controlled by the lawyer fall outside of the safe haven, then any cloud legal tools are not safe. What a stupid ruling.
quietsegfault··on Apple Business
Lots and lots of missing messages. That was the big one. Anything from a SaaS just never arrived, like tickets, notifications, etc. I had random IMAP authentication failures too.

quietsegfault··on Study finds no evidence cannabis helps anxiety, depression, or PTSD
Where are you seeing it be encouraged any more than other harmful things? My US state despite legalizing has a lot of programs to tell people not to use it.
quietsegfault··on Study finds no evidence cannabis helps anxiety, depression, or PTSD
fMRI just measures the BOLD signal (blood oxygenation). It's a proxy for neural activity, meaning any conclusions drawn from it are inferences, not direct observations of the brain 'thinking'.
