quietsegfault··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
It’s nonsensical to define the actions of nature as legitimate or illegitimate.
quietsegfault··on Settlement with OpenAI for Discriminating Against U.S. Workers
Oh no. They might charge them double - 10x, even!
quietsegfault··on Show HN: ssh ssh.place
Make sure to not be forwarding ssh agents! :)
quietsegfault··on The Seinfeld Chronicles: Digital Edition
I really wanted to read this, but the infinite scroll and weird interface made it way too hard for me to understand what’s going on.
quietsegfault··on Elevators
That’s awesome! I haven’t really played with them, only silently seethed when the elevator is crowded.
quietsegfault··on Elevators
What makes me more peeved about destination dispatch elevators are people who aren't used to them, and all pile into an elevator without hitting a floor, thinking one input is enough for everyone. Then, a totally full elevator stops at intermediate floors to pick up callers, but there's no room to get in. If everyone put the floor in as they arrive to the elevator lobby, then the elevator would know how many people are in the elevator and won't overfill them.
quietsegfault··on Elevators
I love elevator simulations.
quietsegfault··on FCC bans foreign-produced solar inverters, grid lockout begins today
My solar production data is fed to my ISO so I can sell clean energy vouchers. My solar installer just called me the other day asking if I had a tree shading a panel, because production on that panel was low. There are plenty of reasons to have internet connected solar equipment.
quietsegfault··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
Firing someone for taking a prescribed therapeutic medication for a medical condition? Yeah, that’s illegal.
quietsegfault··on PCjs Machines
I tried getting my kids to play sierra games with me, and they seemed uninterested. What a bummer, as I have very fond memories of playing these games with my otherwise uninterested parents.
quietsegfault··on Show HN: I replaced a $120k bowling center system with $1,600 in ESP32s
My local center in a big northeast us city is very cheap during the week, and reasonably priced on the weekends. Surprisingly, even their food and alcohol is priced lower than what you’d expect - cheaper than the sports bar down the block. No idea how they make money, but my kids love it and I love being able to get a good beer while I spend time bowling with my kids.
quietsegfault··on Show HN: I replaced a $120k bowling center system with $1,600 in ESP32s
Buy it! What else are you doing with your money?
quietsegfault··on Show HN: I replaced a $120k bowling center system with $1,600 in ESP32s
I would love to watch YouTube videos on your work!
quietsegfault··on Interrail: 6,379Km and 13 Countries over 7 weeks
I love to see tourists in my American city marvel at squirrels.
quietsegfault··on How the terrorist group Boko Haram uses frontier AI
Depends. If the 20 are more spread out and your enemy is using inaccurate weapons, then maybe more would survive.
quietsegfault··on How the terrorist group Boko Haram uses frontier AI
You don’t think that there were highly educated people in leadership roles in the Taliban or Viet Cong?
quietsegfault··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
No.
quietsegfault··on Every new car sold in the European Union must include a driver monitoring camera
I have a Korean SUV in the US, and I am rarely bothered by the attention alert. When I am, I’m very clearly not paying attention, and reminded gently to stop being a fool and pay attention! I like the implementation in my vehicle.
quietsegfault··on The future of Flipper Zero development
I use mine mostly as a universal IR remote.
quietsegfault··on The future of Flipper Zero development
Cause they like animals or the art style?
quietsegfault··on Polymarket has flooded social media with deceptive videos by paid creators
Whoops, I thought by “they” you meant “all the gambling platforms”, not just polymarket.
quietsegfault··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
I recommend making a donation to the Trump administration, that seems like the way to go.
quietsegfault··on Polymarket has flooded social media with deceptive videos by paid creators
Isn’t that auditable by gambling regulators?
quietsegfault··on U.S. science is in chaos
Your original claim was that people haven’t bothered to check. When someone pointed out there are tens of thousands of papers on the subject, you changed the question to find papers that answer my specific question.

Those are not the same claim. You went from arguing that the research doesn’t exist to arguing that you haven’t personally seen research that satisfies you.

quietsegfault··on A backdoor in a LinkedIn job offer
I recently went through an interview—o-thon and got a couple obvious scammers. I hope it’s because it’s more prevalent, and not because I seem stupid enough to fall for it!
quietsegfault··on Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for distributing journal reprints
Many of us are protesting every day.
quietsegfault··on Show HN: I reverse-engineered the world maps of Test Drive III (1990 DOS game)
I actually came here to post this. It's iconic music, bleeps and bloops!
quietsegfault··on Show HN: I reverse-engineered the world maps of Test Drive III (1990 DOS game)
I can still hear the PC speaker music in my head.
quietsegfault··on Webcam head tracking, webcam to control in‑game FOV
I learned how to shift my head only a little bit to move the FOV a lot when using one of those infrared trackers. Still kinda hurt my neck.
quietsegfault··on A 10 year old Xeon is all you need
E5-2690s in my case.
