quest88··on I accidentally saved my company half a million dollars
While this feels good to imagine, the social fallout would be disastrous.
quest88··on The negative impact of mobile-first web design on desktop
How do you solve non-layout issues while keeping the site fast? Maybe you want your site to functionally behave differently, but don't want to implement client-side rendering.
quest88··on California suspends Cruise's autonomous vehicle deployment
Honestly they scare me a little.

I frequently walk my dog where a lot of cruises operate. I dislike there's no.. two-way communication? with car. I mean that with a human driver if we make eye contact then I know they see me and I can safely (yes yes not 100%) cross the street. With a cruise I have no idea if it sees me, or if there's a bug that will make it drive as I'm in the middle of the crosswalk. They actually make me jog across out of fear.

quest88··on Meta sued by states over harmful youth marketing
ah so like gq, vogue, teen magazines, mtv, hollywood - the traditional media.
quest88··on Meta sued by states over harmful youth marketing
It's ok to admit that you're wrong and that it's not like crack or some terrible drug.
quest88··on Meta sued by states over harmful youth marketing
Yea, all this cancer and burden on the healthcare system caused by social media. Just like tobacco.
quest88··on Meta sued by states over harmful youth marketing
Really? It bankrupts its users? People can't hold a job because of it? People will rob stores to get more money to use more social media? It causes families to painfully detach themselves from addicts?
quest88··on Dockerized local and offline backing up of PostgreSQL with rotation, compression
Queue the future “show hn: a lightweight pg backup solution”
quest88··on Google User Data Is Police's Top Shortcut for Solving Crimes
The small amount I've seen, they are.
quest88··on Apple’s new Transformer-powered predictive text model
Is this an apt analogy? Don't LLMs train off these bland humans you mention? Wouldn't LLMs then also be bland?
quest88··on Ask HN: Why does Google rank the real Python documentation below content farms?
Checkout devdocs.io. I'd suggest using this if you want to search official docs. But first you need to enable whatever language you want to search. I enabled python 3.11 and searched `endswith` and immediately found the documentation.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I hope this helps you in the interim.

quest88··on The Raft Consensus Algorithm (2015)
You need to at least try.
quest88··on A look into the finances of SpaceX
Did their profits increase? Elon claimed reusable rockets would be orders of magnitude cheaper. Is that statement true?
quest88··on What Is Happening with ChatGPT?
I mean..it's not designed to spit out facts, only what it sees a lot of.
quest88··on Blocked by Cloudflare
Why would chrome give that information away? That's Google's most valuable resource.
quest88··on Parents, environmentalists to Google: stop Chromebooks from expiring this summer
That's not a good rebuttal. The context is $250 laptops that afford students technology literacy for cheap. Not, I can't afford a yacht and I'm ok with it, ergo everyone else can be ok with things they can't afford.
quest88··on Parents, environmentalists to Google: stop Chromebooks from expiring this summer
Wouldn't that make things more expensive so that only the rich can continue to be better off?
quest88··on 40 years ago yesterday Air Canada Flight 143 ran out of fuel mid-flight
Uh..yes. But that's not the goal of a slip. You're describing the first flight lesson for every pilot. And it's true, but not relevant for the discussion of a slip. The goal of a slip is to quickly lose altitude without changing airspeed. If you need to quickly slow down, chop and drop and pitch up.
quest88··on 40 years ago yesterday Air Canada Flight 143 ran out of fuel mid-flight
Spot on, but nit: Helps you lose altitude quickly, not slows you down.
quest88··on What differentiates front-end frameworks
You're describing an inhouse framework
quest88··on Neopets is coming back bigger and better than ever
Same, they even had tutorials for writing html and css! I referenced them often.
quest88··on Look ma, no React: I recoded my portfolio site with vanilla everything
That statement indicates you don't know why react was developed.
quest88··on Look ma, no React: I recoded my portfolio site with vanilla everything
Stop it. You know what they mean.
quest88··on Google Play adds NFTs
nobody asked for what? Did you read the article?
quest88··on Google Play adds NFTs
What would be cancelled? Did you read the article?
quest88··on Ask HN: What happened to Web3 startups?
Trial projects.
quest88··on Tell HN: Books Printed by Amazon
Bahahaha!
quest88··on Tell HN: Books Printed by Amazon
> the book was rubbish anyway.

Why is it still on your shelf then :)

quest88··on Twitter now requires an account to view tweets
How do you define stealing? Is the AI data obtained from accessing private data? Data that users did not make publicly available but kept to themselves on their own devices?
quest88··on Delta flight lands in Charlotte without front landing gear
The technique is the soft-field landing technique, required for every pilot[1]. It's for landing on soft surfaces such as a grass strip. You must land with the mains first and keep the nose wheel held off of the ground for as long as possible, gently setting it down. You don't need a complex aircraft for this.

This is the same technique the delta pilot used, and by other pilots that had an abnormal nose-wheel deployment.
