queenkjuul··on When did Google get so weird?
Well trump was so freaked out that CNN reported it that he banned them from the white house. But the military keeps using the AI all the same
queenkjuul··on When did Google get so weird?
Well their customers are advertisers and so the results are tailored to be useful for them, not for users
queenkjuul··on When did Google get so weird?
And the number of Rs in strawberry is a joke how?
queenkjuul··on When did Google get so weird?
Pretty sure I've had 5x6 memorized accurately since i was 7 years old

queenkjuul··on When did Google get so weird?
They were sued over it in Germany and lost, which makes it all the more surprising they keep it up everywhere else tbh
queenkjuul··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
Is 16+ not almost 20?

"A few years" is like ten, in their case. Homer v New York is like season 9 or 10

But it falls off very quickly after that, that it's still on the air today is elder abuse

Accepting a PR from a racist is a very different thing to using a quote from a racist as advertising for your product.

If you don't want reactions to your advertising, don't advertise.

I would be very mindful about advertising endorsements from anyone at all myself.

I can excuse bullying powerful people in all cases, especially when it's funny

30 years is a long ass time. Did you miss what happened to the Simpsons over 30 years?
queenkjuul··on Too AI; Didn't Read
I don't want your prompt either. Do the work to make "your" writing not sound like AI, or write it yourself, or don't expect me to read it.
queenkjuul··on Too AI; Didn't Read
I can't even force myself to read Claude's multi-paragraph PR summaries, and instead just go read the code. They're barely coherent and incredibly verbose.
queenkjuul··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
Well, yeah. Rhetorical question lol
queenkjuul··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
It took 3 seconds to load an empty prompt input: what quality?
queenkjuul··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
I'm pretty nonchalant with coworkers to begin with, when it comes to LLMs i sometimes am curious how well it can handle slang, and other times, since it's a program, am extremely rude. Their whole purpose is to handle natural language after all.
queenkjuul··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
It was seriously taking THREE SECONDS to render the chat prompt??? How do you possibly write an app that badly?
queenkjuul··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
I've played music for twenty years and can't read sheet music to save my life. Pretty easy to learn the shapes and patterns on a keyboard or guitar without reading sheet music (easier on guitar) and i figure with drums like, while i might Google the chords of a song for guitar, I've never known any drummer that would learn a cover song via notation
queenkjuul··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
Yah there's certainly no fraud, bureaucracy, or gilded walls involved in the tech industry
queenkjuul··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
Well generally we monitor their heart and lungs to see whether they died
queenkjuul··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
Well i can tell you what i think: music isn't math and whoever told you that is wrong.

To further underline the point: entire cultures' musical traditions don't follow the circle of fifths, or notation as you're likely familiar with it, or even notes that follow the kinds of ratios you might use to describe western musical scales of any kind. The mathematical representations of western music were applied in retrospect, math never played any role in the development of western music anyway.

So considering math was never a factor in the development of western music and the math used to describe western music doesn't even apply universally, i just can't really consider "music is math" to be a meaningful statement at all

queenkjuul··on Why do we need human mathematicians anymore?
I thought "oh, I'll just click through to the original post and read it there" and wow, what a mistake. Just the most obnoxious slop-filled over-animated endlessly distracting claudesite I've ever seen in my life.
queenkjuul··on Jev-Leftpad
Run it twice
queenkjuul··on ZuckOff Know when a camera is in the room
The live music image in their collage is hilarious: it's blurring the backs of people's heads, and presumably blurs the faces of the band, as how would it know the difference

Eta: and in their demo video there's a person walking by who's face doesn't get blurred lmao. Bang up job, Claude

queenkjuul··on ZuckOff is a free app that sees Meta glasses before they see you
> Wouldn't that be covered by fair use?

This has never once prevented a DMCA notice from being issued, and I'm sure you can guess how easy it is to get a person at YouTube to review your appeal

queenkjuul··on KDE turns 30 and someone's brought an AI-native desktop proposal
To be fair i think in KDE terms, the desktop refers to the whole experience: the panels, the notifications, the menus, the decorations, the file manager, etc. Also to be fair i think widgets are still mostly focused on the actual desktop part of the "desktop environment"

Sorry to be annoying, i do think the idea in general is bad, i just think i have a better idea of what the devs are thinking if i consider the idea where the entire desktop environment as a whole reacts to how you use it instead of making every single nanoscale decision user-configurable (KDE) or deciding you know better than the user, your way or the highway (Gnome). I don't think they mean the actual like desktop view specifically, or building a dashboard

queenkjuul··on Everybody's Lost Their Minds
I'm not nitpicking, it's just a bad metaphor, entirely, on its face. No nits about it
queenkjuul··on I think you should almost never use AI to write
I know I'm an outlier but i truly just can't imagine using an LLM for absolutely anything outside programming itself. I'm something of an expert in programming so i can spot the hallucinations and nonsense. I'm not an expert in lots of other things where i wouldn't be able to spot the problems. That and the writing is so grating and awful, the docs are so verbose yet vague. Reading the responses i explicitly asked it to generate is bad enough, i could never ask someone else to do it with something they could just generate themselves.
queenkjuul··on Everybody's Lost Their Minds
They are nowhere close to cars
queenkjuul··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
This conversation is about who would take an award winning photo. It's not about how much you personally like photography.
queenkjuul··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
I really don't think so. A pro that knows all the ins and outs of working their camera for the perfect shot in the given conditions will do better than a one-off hope that the camera auto settings nail it. A professional literally spends their life framing shots, a tourist spams the shutter hoping one turns out and crops/filters/AI enhances their way from the best of the bunch to whatever will get likes from their family. No contest for a single exposure: the pro knows what they're doing, the tourist doesn't.
