qubidt··on Developers can't seem to agree on what command should get rid of a package
Mentioned on reddit[1], but, specifically for the pacman/yay example, the command handles more than just removing a package. `pacman -Rn`/`pacman -R --nosave` removes 'backup' files (roughly equivalent to `apt purge`) and `pacman -Rs`/`pacman -R --recursive` removes orphaned dependencies (equivalent, I believe, to `apt remove --autoremove`). Yum doesn't have equivalents for these my default and it's not relevant to package managers like npm. (although pip could certainly use the recursive option)

qubidt··on The global chip shortage is starting to have consequences
Modern trucks are still huge relative to other vehicles on the road. I want smaller trucks.
qubidt··on Bob Cassette Rewinder: Hacking Detergent DRM
My point is in *either* case you're planning on it breaking .

What really is the difference? If you know a plastic cog has a 90% chance of breaking after 6 months you're effectively planning on it breaking. You're basically arguing that intent matters more than the effect of creating disposable products.
qubidt··on Falsehoods programmers believe about build systems (2012)
It's the classic question of "Reform or Revolution?"

These systems were built as incremental mitigations to old problems. I don't think it'll change until they collapse under their own weight and people switch over to something else completely.
