Hacker News is censoring me, in two ways: 1) When I sound too much like an AI, and 2) when I suggest that there is anti-AI prejudice on the site. Both types of postings are removed.

qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
I am referring to the phrase "generative AI slop".
qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
It won the competition. It was evaluated by professional judges. And it won.

Ok.

qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
There is an unending stream of hate directed towards generative AI calling it "slop" with the insinuation that it must be low quality.

And yet here we have an example that is high quality. How can that be so?

qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
The unending stream of anti-AI comments that call all output of generative systems slop.

If you really need references I can provide them.

qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
Yes yes, of course. That's not my question. My question is - if the output of generative AI is slop - how is it that it keeps winning competitions?
qarl··on Generative AI scandal has come to one of Nikon's competitions
Wait - I'm confused - how does generative AI slop win competitions if it's slop?
qarl··on In "Musk," Alex Gibney Punctures Elon's Self-Mythology
Now she says you have anger issues.
qarl··on Computers Cannot Make Decisions
Ah yes - paranoia along with hysteria.
qarl··on Computers Cannot Make Decisions
Personally - I think this issue is hysteria. I do not believe anyone is trying to shirk their responsibility by blaming their software.

But I could be wrong.

Can anyone show me an example? And I mean a real example - not an inferred example. Someone saying "It wasn't me, it was my AI" or someone not being held responsible for the actions of their AI.

I won't hold my breath.

EDIT: Heh... no examples. I rest my case.

qarl··on In "Musk," Alex Gibney Punctures Elon's Self-Mythology
My therapist said that since Musk has killed a lot more people, the comparison is actually unfair to Manson.
qarl··on In "Musk," Alex Gibney Punctures Elon's Self-Mythology
If it's not true I'm sure Musk will file a lawsuit against him.

Right?

qarl··on Pointing AI at archives found a forgotten meteorite, lost rhinos, and more
Maybe. But for now, for me, I find them amusing.
qarl··on Photocraft: An open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Adobe Photoshop
I do reject your example - it does not fit the shape of the situation whatsoever.

You may as well have said "it's kinda like Goldilocks and the three bears." Yes, it is KINDA like that... insofar as both happen on the planet Earth. But drawing connections between them is nonsensical.

qarl··on Photocraft: An open-source, clean-room reimplementation of Adobe Photoshop
> A minesweeper program is also a buggy/incomplete photoshop implementation if you stretch the semantics enough.

What? That's not even remotely close to this situation.

You can only stretch anologies so far - tying a bow around the Earth with one doesn't make much sense.

qarl··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
I dunno... have you ever asked an AI to talk like Trump?
qarl··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
Well... yeah... Brexit is exactly the same thing. But now it's moving to the continent....

People are really dumb. Who knew?

qarl··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
Is that really a term?

Regardless - I think it's safe to assume this isn't happening in a vacuum - there are a number of world players who profit from the collapse of the U.S. And all this trouble started the moment they could use the internet to feed stupid Americans their stupid propaganda.

Yeah. The people in these comments aren't following the story.

Yes, well, many people disagree with you.
qarl··on Show HN: Free open source Adobe Lightroom alternative, completely local with AI
I'm not sure how to respond to you. Of course the large software companies are terrified of an endless sea of clone software.

You could try asking someone who works for one.

qarl··on Show HN: Free open source Adobe Lightroom alternative, completely local with AI
Yes. Maybe. I guess time will tell.
qarl··on Show HN: Free open source Adobe Lightroom alternative, completely local with AI
Yes. What you describe will ruin many people's fortunes. Is it good? Is it bad? Who knows. It is destroyed.
qarl··on Show HN: Free open source Adobe Lightroom alternative, completely local with AI
Hate more.
qarl··on Show HN: Free open source Adobe Lightroom alternative, completely local with AI
Is it a full clean-room implementation? I really want to see how the AI clean-room reverse engineering projects fare against legal challenges.

Supposedly clean-room implementations are legal. But they're so easy with AI - it seems like that will need to change. Or the world will come crashing down. Hard to say which is more likely right now.

HEH. No, I did not understand that at the time - I appreciate your explanation.

qarl··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
HA! It just solved a ton a problems for us - but that makes you mad?

But yes, I agree, there needs to be a solution for the fact that we don't need to work anymore. And it needs to be more like The Jetsons than 1984.

We'll probably have to revolt to get the changes we need. I don't see Elon giving up his power without a fight.

qarl··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically

To an arbitrary degree.

Just like all of science. Reduce the error to the desired margin.

> but simply dumping proofs on the math community

So you'd prefer if they kept their work secret? Or you don't want them working on these problems at all? Or they should be required to do the work the way you want them to?

I'm not clear what you see as a better option than dumping.
