pvg··on When AI Has Root: Lessons from the Supabase MCP Data Leak
I doubt simonw would self-describe as a security researcher - his post was based on the original work here https://www.generalanalysis.com/blog/supabase-mcp-blog which is not 'the followup analysis'. This is really poor blogspam.

Edit: The first bit was silently fixed, the second wasn't - the fact you won't even acknowledge the mistake or the edit just makes it look more mercenary and blogspammy.

pvg··on Show HN: Cursor's "Tab" Model in the Browser
Doesn't this send an awful lot of potentially private/sensitive browsing info to two places - your service and the LLM provider?

Fishing out someone else's support problem from reddit rarely works out as a good HN post.

pvg··on Mobile-Friendliness of Flagging Submissions
If you can figure out the right search (I can't, off the top of my head), you'll find a bunch of dang comments saying a fix for this is planned. You can also mail hn@ycombinator.com to demand faster service.

pvg··on Chocolate Consumption, Cognitive Function, and Nobel Laureates (2012)
though my doc and my nutritionist and two nutritionists that I worked with at a startup are all skeptical.

The scientific approach is to assess their responses after giving them dark chocolate and dark chocolate placebo, double blinded.

pvg··on Show HN: Lazy Tetris
sorry if it's too soon,

Take a look at https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html, search for 'reposts'. A few weeks after a huge Show HN thread is a little soon.

pvg··on Data on AI-related Show HN posts
20% is closer to the lower bound

I think the methodology is too poor to actually make that call. It's closer to "the 20% is kind of made up".

pvg··on Toys/Lag: Jerk Monitor
Yes this a (computer) CRT thing. The commenter might be misremembering the exact numbers, 60 Hz baseline is a flat panel thing, by the mid to late 90s, 75 Hz was something a typical computer CRT would generally aim for and was part of various standards and recommendations.

pvg··on Young Europeans losing faith in democracy, poll finds
The idea that "democracy" is some ineffectual promise like "communism" and "Iranian theocracy" is obviously wrong because we have the record of a whole bunch of democracies being a lot more successful than any communist or theocratic state. It's a rhetorical flourish than doesn't survive the slightest scrutiny.
pvg··on Young Europeans losing faith in democracy, poll finds
I could make the same arguments about "communism" in '80's-era Eastern Europe, or "theocracy" in modern Iran

No, you can't, without completely making stuff up. Plenty of people have lived in those and also the other alternatives who could tell you this, not that it's difficult to surmise without that experience.

pvg··on Conversations with a hit man
criticizing the author's artistic choices.

There's no mention of 'artistic choices', it's just self-congratulation on one's personal choice to not-read. A perfectly valid choice but it's HN-offtopic since it's hard to square 'curious conversation' with 'trumpeting one's incuriosity'.

Yep, it very much feels like that but it doesn't seems to have happened yet. Even a not-entirely-quite-working yet attempt there could be an interesting thing/discussion.

pvg··on Show HN: HomeBrew HN – generate personal context for content ranking
Somewhat tangential but a oddly under-explored side of the LLMs+HN data projects - HN search that does a good job finding HN submission/comment results for the type of things often asked in Ask HN that can be answered by HN searches. 'How do I learn about [some nice thing or another]', etc. People asking this sort of thing often don't know the right keywords so pure keyword search often doesn't work well but more latent-spacey things, in theory, could. Another related one is "can you LLMgenerate something akin to dang's 'Related' posts".
