Explain to me how a degree from schools "much better than schools most of us went to" indicates the person is more competent or intelligent than anyone else? "better" should be subbed out for "prestigious".

> Mint, as ever, out of the box is more secure than macOS or Windows ever dreamed of being. On my Mac and Windows boxes, I'm always tinkering with patches and security software. On Mint? It's a none issue. I have never had a single security problem.
OK then..
He got that right.. Wish the media would do the same
I really don't know what world that statement would be true in.
Server side rendering HTML and serving it up works perfectly fast for pretty much every site which is read only content or forms. The of 3rd party scripts running on every page are the issue.
Also as a major negative against SPAs, once a script is loaded - it's going to be ever present on every page afterwards - enjoy explaining why payment details page needs 20 3rd part scripts running on it. Not possible to unload scripts.
I worked with databases that only had table level locks(not row level) and there were more than enough occasions I cursed the creators.
Instance level(& indeed DB level) is insanity unless your DB is a read only DB.
Go solves Googles main problem -> something which new engineers can use to write practical solutions without having to think too much. It's not beautiful or expressive or technically interesting; most "craftsman" devs won't stick with it too long..But that's not the majority of devs google is hiring.
Sit down, bang out code and don't concern yourself too much with craftmanship - it will be re-written in a couple of years. Just worry about performance.
I view them as an un-elected advisory group.
Java libraries are JAR -> Java Archives. You can unzip them and there is JVM bytecode inside which can be decompiled. Not really binary blobs.
No, it's not. Want consistency in all your text boxes/links/buttons? Are you going to copy/paste or inherit from a base button component or define the general common styles in one place and have the browser automatically apply them with 0 thought.
Need a button to be different - then do inline styles or more specific selector(incl. CSS in JS) or use !important.
As parent poster said, definitively stating there is only one true™ way to do something is the height of hubris.
> That's why it's been so frustrating for me waiting to see this paradigm come to web development
Inline styles were the norm for quite a long period of time...
When the OP replies that he can do that in CSS or Sass, smart guy then moves on to new argument - naming.
Reading interactions between 2 people with different well reasoned opinions on the same issue is fantastic and can be illuminating.
Reading curt regurgitation from people who don't have anything worthwhile to add to the convo is beyond frustrating.
This sounds like double-speak. That's not what at scale refers to, even allowing a very loose definition.
How the HTML is generated is moot. Server side templates had re-usability at a "component" level. iFrames exist, redirects exist.
I'm not saying all JS is bad. I'm saying too may new people seem to think JS in and of itself is magic and there is no other way to generate/manipulate the DOM or talk to other computers.
I'm bailing out of this conversation now because you're heavily conflating HTML, browser functionality and www fundamentals with website builders(i don't know why you felt the need to qualify it with "professional")
> Even HN has JavaScript for that little bit of interactivity (collapsing comments).
Yeah no, "even HN" works perfectly with JS blocked. JS for HN is an enhancement, not a requirement. They understand how the web can work...
> build nice websites at scale
> at scale
What? Might as well mention ML & blockchain while we're at it.
If site is not interactive, it doesn't _need_ JS.
If it does need JS, it more than likely needs _sprinkles_ of it.
No, it doesn't.
Every country in EU sets it's own corporate, sales & income tax rates. as well as _EVERY_ other rate.
Every country in the EU can & does offer incentives & future tax payment agreements to companies who meet certain conditions. These are not inter-EU agreements nor do they need prior approval by any EU establishment.

Or just write a test that checks the date on the cert and conditionally fails.
If it's within 4 weeks, send email to x,y,z.
If it's within 2 weeks, send it to VP of x, y, z.
combination of failing test and email should lessen chance of it going unnoticed(email could possibly fail for whatever reason).
A rhetorical question

of any crowded city.

I hope the irony of you making this statement isn't lost.
> how clever.
Bite your tongue and be civil.
i like walking & cycle pretty much everywhere i can. i've never found walking amongst/against throngs of people to be relaxing or enjoyable - quite the opposite so i'm sure the stress of walking in NYC negates much of the health benefits of walking in general.
2 bucks on a lotto ticket achieves the same result for me.
(require 'package)
(setq package-enable-at-startup nil)
(add-to-list 'package-archives '("melpa" . "https://melpa.org/packages/") t)
(package-initialize)
;; Bootstrap `use-package'
(unless (package-installed-p 'use-package)
(package-refresh-contents)
(package-install 'use-package))
(org-babel-load-file (expand-file-name "~/.emacs.d/myinit.org"))
then you can put your configs in an org file. using `use-package` means I can just copy/paste the file to new emacs and all my packages are auto installed etc..

(use-package command-log-mode

also, i highly recommend package `which-key` - it displays what commands are available along with their keypress.
