punnerud··on The cost of turning down wind turbines in Britain
This is a layer way lower than that, this is between solar farms and buildings, solar farms and close factories. Not big electric zones like that.

Norway already have this kind of solution where a companies on the same land can register to the grid companies, and the production and consumtion within the same messurement intervals is not counted as selling to the grid. This way you can use the public grid for your own "internal" transfer.
punnerud··on Privacy and Security Risks in the eSIM Ecosystem [pdf]
Have you read the abstract? Most of them is a teaser, and does not contain any information from the conclusion etc. So a summary is still valid?
punnerud··on I still love PHP and JavaScript (2022)
Just me that love to vibe code PHP?
punnerud··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
He wrote “The tradeoff, of course, is that the data rate is limited by the speed of the floppy controller,”. Implying it could be faster by switching the controller. I guess tape drives could in theory have way way faster transfer speeds, as other tape drives does.
punnerud··on Using Claude Code to modernize a 25-year-old kernel driver
What was the new speed after the upgrade?
punnerud··on Wikipedia as a Graph
Just me wanting to ban pages using Cloudflare to block ChatGPT/Claude? (Based on the short browser/user check seen on this page)
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Hi, have been working on that also ;) as a way to have multiple agents working on the same repo. Started with Docker and then switched, because Docker is to slow to spin up (seconds is to slow) and big.
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Now it’s the files. Have been prototyping about keeping the context also, for an upcoming version.
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Kind of like Cursor? Just a couple more features (now)
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Yes, tried to make it clear that this is Checkpoints for Claude Code. An addition to Claude Code.
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Strange, tested on MacBook Pro M3, Pro Intel and MacBook Air M1. All with different OS versions. Straight after the MCP connection setup this happens?
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
Hi, the developer here. Already thinking about a way to add it as a background task that can communicate with multiple instances at once. As long as its part of CLAUDE.md, every new project would have it automatically included. Not part of Claude Code, but a good way closer?
punnerud··on Claude Code Checkpoints
"Checkpoints for Claude Code" use git under the hood, but stored in .claudecheckpoints folder, to not mess with your own git. Add itself to .gitignore. It auto commits with a git message for the changes done through MCP locally.

Hi, the developer here. Its a very early version so there could be a lot of bugs, but I like to use it myself (already found several bugs and updated version soon on its way). Switching from Cursor to Claude Code this was the biggest loss. Have tried to improve on the Cursor functionality, with features I missed.

I would love any feedback on what you are missing etc

punnerud··on Checkpoints for Claude Code
That was my experience also, thats why I made it. Also tried to improve on the Cursor experience, to let you checkout an earlier Checkpoint, do some testing and switch to a newer Checkpoint again.
punnerud··on Gemma 3 270M re-implemented in pure PyTorch for local tinkering
Because on Mac the CPU and GPU share memory, but A100 need to transfer to RAM/CPU on the parts that’s not supported by GPU?

(My first guess)

punnerud··on Gemma 3 270M: Compact model for hyper-efficient AI
Finally a Google guide using PyTorch and not Tensorflow, that alone made me wanting to try it out ;)
punnerud··on GPT-5
Wished this version would be called OpenAI-GPT-25.8
punnerud··on Map Comparison Kit (2005)
Not often anyone I come across webpages that is frozen in time
punnerud··on Litestar is worth a look
Good to see it using port 8000 as default, and not Flasks 5000 (does not work on Mac anymore)
punnerud··on Dumb Pipe
Good article from Tailscale on how direct connections is established, even when both nodes is behind NAT: https://tailscale.com/blog/how-nat-traversal-works
punnerud··on I drank every cocktail
Long ago there was a law that every farm in Norway had to produce beer, because the king could potentially visit. It’s said coffee was introduced to try to reduce the alcohol consumption, but Norwegians kept consuming alcohol like before and staring to drink large amount of coffee also.
punnerud··on The unreasonable effectiveness of fuzzing for porting programs
Reading that TensorFlow is not used much anymore (besides Google) felt good to read. Had to check Google Trends: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fg%2F1...

I started using TensorFlow years ago and switched to PyTorch. Hope ML will make switches like TensorFlow to PyTorch faster and easier, and not just the biggest companies eating the open source community. Like it have been for years.

punnerud··on Apple has announced its final version of macOS for Intel
Why the end of Hackintosh? Doesn’t Windows support ARM, so there should be machines that can support newer versions of MacOS…
punnerud··on Container: Apple's Linux-Container Runtime
Does this enable running containers next apps to iOS and MacOS downloaded from AppStore?
punnerud··on Bruteforcing the phone number of any Google user
What if the user only get one address, how to separate the two? Seems like a need to share if a larger block (providor) is handing out based on blocks or single addresses…
punnerud··on Show HN: Visual flow-based programming for Erlang, inspired by Node-RED
One star on Gighub, could still be good though. Any alternatives on Python that is equally used.

HomeAssistant build on Python have an Node-Red extension, would be nice to see a Python version with more seamless integration

punnerud··on Why are banks still getting authentication so wrong?
We had SMS-auth in Norway until 15 years ago (?), then it was a special type of SMS popping all over your screen that was more secure. Now all that is gone and replaced with Apps for auth, with scanning of your Passport/NationalID using NFC + SMS the first time.
punnerud··on Fandom sells gaming media brand Giant Bomb to long-term staff
In this context, the term “bomb” refers specifically to Giant Bomb, the gaming media brand that has now become independently owned and operated by its creators.
