The shape of the bed makes this thing pretty impractical for functional repeated use.

Ditto! I’d also love to know what is being used for the visualizations.
punkybr3wster··on Show HN: Chrome addon to lookup selected text via ChatGPT using custom prompts
The current state of the code isn’t obfuscated in any way that I can see. You can easily pop through the JS and see exactly what it’s doing. The extension itself is pretty simple to follow.
punkybr3wster··on M3 Macs: there's more to performance than counting cores
Why on earth would you want this when you can get much nicer screens for fractions of the price?

One I can understand as I used to travel with my iPad Pro and used it as a second screen. But two? I’ve switched to a much lighter and much nicer UHD HDR usb-c monitor that is amazing for the price and the weight difference.

You also don’t get the random disconnections when sidecar weirds out for no reason.

Uber eats started doing that and it’s infuriating because you need the realtime notices for the app but then they send you non stop promos and make you jump through hoops to disable the marketing ones.
punkybr3wster··on The Timer in WatchOS 10
The removal of swapping watch faces with a swipe is so aggravating in 10. I use cooking timers and I had a specific face for that task and now it’s cumbersome to do with my hands full as you have to press and wait for it to pop into the faces and then swipe and long press again.

They didn’t even add something in its place. It was just removed for seemingly no reason.

punkybr3wster··on The Timer in WatchOS 10
Same. I use adhoc timers constantly!
punkybr3wster··on America's advanced manufacturing problem and how to fix it
The problem is design and tech companies and cloning resellers sling stuff direct to consumers via ungodly amounts of facebook ads. Because they’re direct shipments so many of those products are not safe or certified and many clones are labeled as certified but aren’t because they’re cheap knock offs made to look like the originals.

I’ve also struggled with this. Is there an elegant solution that you’re aware of? Everything I’ve tried feels really rickety.
punkybr3wster··on How did Stripe come up with its name? (2015)
My reply had no judgement against you or your choice of friends. Only that the friend was committing literal fraud to make their money.

It’s a pleasure to see that your choice seems to have benefited you and your conscience in the end.

punkybr3wster··on Sweden is testing a semi-truck covered in 100 square meters of solar panels
Wouldn’t this be the same for regenerative brakes? The amount you get back is negligible in the grand scheme but they put them on every EV/Hybrid anyway.

The individual may be minimal but the overall cumulative benefit may be worth it.

punkybr3wster··on Tesla (TSLA) tumbles on price cuts, “appreciating asset” dream going away
I’m so tired of this number being thrown around. R&D costs aren’t losses. Ford expects their EV division to be net positive by 2025.

Tesla started in 2003 and wasn’t profitable until 2020. Only now when Ford takes a couple years to recoup their R&D on a brand new fledgling platform do people loose their minds and only then try their best to compare them to current Tesla who was hemorrhaging billions year after year for nearly two decades.

Rivian is operating at a loss. Lucid is loosing $500k per car. GE says they’re going to loose money on their EV division until 2025.

All the car companies are playing catch up. Ford and Chevy taking a couple years to do what Tesla did in 20 isn’t the bellwether for Tesla people use it as.

The other boutiques on the other hand - I really don’t know how they’re going to survive once legacy manufacturers really ramp up and start doing more vertical integration and write better software.

punkybr3wster··on How did Stripe come up with its name? (2015)
Ah yes the old make a fortune with fraud routine. Works every time.
punkybr3wster··on YouTuber Kai Cenat in custody after game console giveaway sparks chaos in NYC
If you invite 6.5 million people to a gathering with no support and it takes 1000 police to subdue a massively disruptive crowd on the verge of rioting — you really think the person who invited the crowd has no culpability?

punkybr3wster··on BackerTracker: Track crowdfunding projects and see how much they'll raise
You mean this one?

http://blog.kicktraq.com/the-state-of-projections/

Don't be intellectually dishonest. You aren't naive enough to not know they had this exact same functionality as big as they are and as long as they've been around.

You copied their projection charts which use a weighted historical model too. Your charts even look EXACTLY like theirs. Their projection also takes a few days to build an accurate estimation. So why did you really release this?

If you think you can do better, or have some other piece of functionality, just say so. Don't pretend you didn't know something like this didn't already exist.
