You seem like an humble person, in todays age the job market is very aggressive, there are many self titled senior devs with 3 years of experience and a lot of people who aren’t honest about their experience. My suggestion is to work on your CV to represent you better!

Nothing wrong doing other things, it’s actually important! I used to work in Blender since early 2000’s, I had the original book and always been a fan of Ton Roosendaal. I’ve been developing since Pascal and Action Script, or LAMP days, and still pushing work with any technology I find revelant. And that doesn’t stop me from time to time, to do creative work. I’ve done 9 music videos, for a punk rock project (Portuguese) in the last year. Including 8 pixel art, stop motion and 2d/traditional animation. I push a lot of work daily as a developer, including helping colleagues, mentoring people etc—literally product engineering/full stack, write the spec, prototype, devops, backend, front end, design, if necessary motion graphics, etc and always document everything.

It’s all a matter of empathy, so make sure you work on that CV and Portfolio. Make sure it represents you better!

Most comments seem to be from Affinity customers. I've been a customer for many years. They have incredible software, and it's extremely sad because past acquisitions seem to destroy the applications people like and support, not the other way around. Canva looks like McDonalds.

Sad news! I've been an Affinity customer for many years; I like it much better than Adobe. Canvas branding is underwhelming, and there is no doubt in my mind that Affinity will change to be at the level of what Canvas represents: a web app.

I'm based in London and noticed the same a few years ago when I was looking, and decided to stop applying to UK companies, I find it pretentious and a big waste of time; for me, it was mostly the 4 or 5 interview stages that seemed ridiculous, also take-home tests that took 2 to 3 days, etc. Processes that took weeks of hard work. I can imagine it just got worse now. I've interviewed some people in the last 12 months, and seen a lot of CVs. When investigating, I found a lot of people lying. It seems that LinkedIn/twitter/TikTok are important for recruiters. I don't use it myself, but I've seen people asking for LinkedIn and Twitter for some reason.

There’s a chance to move outside London but finding work is harder, on top of that rent is quite high in any commute areas.

I don’t see how this whole housing situation is sustainable. A 1 bedroom house in Peckham, Hackney, ex council going for 400k at 10pc deposit and current rates that’s almost 2k monthly payments for 25 years for a leasehold. Insane!

They were about to renew the house/flat contract, but the landlord decided to sell. So, looking for a new job and a new place while unemployed.

I hope that's the case where in the location where you are typing from. Unfortunately, it's not the case in places where I have family and friends. Some examples are in cities in Portugal, England, Spain, Germany, etc. In fact, in the past couple of days, I have found to have unrelated people I know about who are desperately looking for a place, separate cases but similar stories in London and Lisbon.

Housing is extremely expensive. I wonder how people pay rent, mortgage, and other expenses with so many layoffs.
