psyfi··on It’s Time to Reaffirm Our First Amendment Right to Boycott
Israel is not defined by ethnicity, I can get Israeli citizenship if I claim that I have converted to Judaism.

If we go further with this reasoning we should also shield Saudi Arabia, UAE, Vatican City, Maldives, etc.. from boycott.

Any company who does not want to lose a market of ~18% of global population will make sure it complies (example: Apple).

We need to think about real life here and not just technical implementation

psyfi··on Laika, the space dog, and her one-way trip into orbit (2018)
2022 and some people are still being tortured for more than 20 years in Guantanamo bay without charge or a proof of committing a crime, we can just blame lead exposure of course.

psyfi··on Laika, the space dog, and her one-way trip into orbit (2018)
Exactly! I'm getting sick of seeing all that kind of double-standards BS all around the internet. Things are OK until someone we don't like does it

Horses and camels were being used for wars for centuries and they were occasionally killed in action, it is not disgusting at all if you think of it objectively

CONNECT requests in Squid or similar proxies are very easy to detect as they happen before encryption

I would suggest using Outline (based on Shadowsocks but with easy interface)

Or set up OpenConnect Server on Cisco Anyconnect mode, it is based on HTTPS and it looks exactly as https on the wire

psyfi··on What “diversity and inclusion” means at Microsoft
DEI policies are pure racism but in the other direction.
psyfi··on 50 Years Ago, Sugar Industry Quietly Paid Scientists to Point Blame at Fat (2016)
The most critical issue here is not sugar industry, it is the possibility for any big $$$ company to fund researches to mislead people for their interest with little consequences and nobody noticing for long time researches. How many other policies are applied based on "scientific" studies that are publicly considered sacred and weaponized against those "opposing science". After decades of monkey to human illustrations in science books, scientist don't really know much to back the theory of cross-species evolution, and nobody is really giving it enough rejection as it has been weaponized for long with the accusition of being "creationists", despite that theory itself is just a belief with very few scientific information to back it.
psyfi··on Who cares about diversity?
No, it's about trying to make a policy to reach some goal but this policy cause an opposite effect

i.e trying to diversify to discourage racism so you end up prefering minorities who are less fit for a job than just to be "diversified"

psyfi··on Who cares about diversity?
Basically, hiring someone because they're from minority/vulnerable race/gender/etc.. to diversify instead of hiring the one that has the best skillset for the job

If we put the idea of Cobra effect aside, these companies are also trying to bargain because vulnerables and minorities would prefer to work for them than for other companies that don't express their preference of minorities, so eventually many of them will accept less pay to feel more welcomed, which is - in my opinion - pure emotional exploitation, they claim they have ethical reasons but actual many of them has only unethical reasons

psyfi··on Investors sue Treasury Department for blacklisting crypto platform Tornado Cash
Monero.
psyfi··on Who cares about diversity?
All diversity policies and measures are leading to Cobra effects https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perverse_incentive#The_origina...

The only policy that is actually right is not to discriminate against colors, ethnicities, political views, etc..

but putting pressure to try to hire african/asian/latinos/women/whatever is like putting pressure on people to buy products from someone just to proof they don't discriminate against, which is extremely absurd and against the purpose.

psyfi··on After self-hosting my email for twenty-three years I have thrown in the towel
I hosted my mailman stack on VPS for some time, it worked well

I stopped self-hosting because it's too much hassle, but it was any difficult to maintain, (by difficult I mean complex)

It didn't worth the time I spent though, so I quit, but I would do it again if I need to

If I had to maintain a server at home and my ISP blocks it, I would get a VPS and host proxies on the VPS and use VPN tunnel to keep the mails stored locally

But I don't have any reason to do that currently, as well as most people

psyfi··on Backsliding on free expression around the world needs to end
The whole free expression thing is irrealistic stupid idea. There is always a limit and as long as limits are not agreed on by everyone, it doesn't make sense

Some expression can be considered pitching extreme ideologies or hate speech which is illegal in most "liberal" places

Some people would argue that attacking an idea is different from attacking a person, but again this is something that is not agreed upon, some people would prefer to be insulted than for their culture/religion/idol to be insulted, so it is a different limits at the end
