psunavy03··on Ford F-150 Lightning outsold the Cybertruck and was then canceled for poor sales
They may not have put it there because they were "self-conscious" about their "statement car." They may have put it there in an honest attempt to avoid having their car vandalized for something they had nothing to do with.
psunavy03··on Ford F-150 Lightning outsold the Cybertruck and was then canceled for poor sales
I mean, in certain circles online, people were literally calling Cybertrucks "Swasticars." Not the greatest for marketing.
psunavy03··on Whistleblower leaks personal details of thousands of Border Patrol/ICE Agents
While there's more than enough room to criticize both agencies these days, and if I did work for one of them I'd be retaining personal legal representation, doxxing people is not the answer. Sure, if some bad actors can be sued/prosecuted, that's not a bad thing per se.

But we're already living in a world where US Senators and Supreme Court Justices have had to have security provided because of death threats from both sides of the aisle. We don't need to be encouraging vigilantes. No side is so noble that people can't do evil in its name.

psunavy03··on Scott Adams has died
The difference is Orson Scott Card only seemed to have been called out for being a bog-standard Mormon, at least as far as I know.
psunavy03··on Anthropic invests $1.5M in the Python Software Foundation
Didn't The Powers That Be™ say that was not going to happen?
psunavy03··on Local Journalism Is How Democracy Shows Up Close to Home
I do agree that local policies are important, but I'm wary of "Nothing happening in the federal governemnt or the middle east or eastern Europe affects me from a local standpoint."

If there's a theme to US politics these days, it's one party or the other trying to get power so they can ram home the same policies across the nation, and the hell with state or local governments that want otherwise.

Since the advent of social media, there's a huge blurring of the lines between national and local issues. The fact that, say, someone got shot 2,000 miles away should be a tragedy, but have no bearing on my own life. But now one party or the other will use it as a cudgel to push policies in my own state and locality.

psunavy03··on The chess bot on Delta Air Lines will destroy you (2024) [video]
The original Wing Commander was like that. Playable on 286s/386s, then Pentiums and beyond showed up and it was unplayable. The game started in the "simulator" to show you the controls, and you'd get blown out of space in about 0.5 seconds.
psunavy03··on Exercise can be nearly as effective as therapy for depression
> People in the military do insane amounts of cardio because it helps dealing with insane amounts of stress.

This is giving the military way too much credit for organized stress management. If military people give the impression of doing "insane amounts of cardio" it's because that's what the physical fitness tests are biased towards.

And we also won't talk about the fact that getting a psych diagnosis, especially in fields like aviation, can end your career, while managing stress via alcohol gets a wink and a nod as long as you don't have an alcohol-related incident.

psunavy03··on How wolves became dogs
On the plus side, it makes it easier to write off someone as a loser when they use any of those terms unironically.

Exhibit A: Reddit.

Other things also being wrong does not make driving under the influence of cannabis any less wrong.
psunavy03··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
So basically you're subtly encouraging violence and intimidation, and want that to be easier than trying to find someone's "anonymous mansion."
psunavy03··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
No, we threw it away because executives wanted their control fantasy of being able to push people around like little chess pieces, as opposed to setting a vision, hiring professionals, and then giving them the tools to achieve the vision and staying the hell out of their way.
psunavy03··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
Source that cars are buildable for a few thousand dollars to the existing laws?

Even the Slate truck is $25,000 because safety features are required.

psunavy03··on LLM Problems Observed in Humans
It's sadly also an attitude I'm not surprised to see coming out of tech, given how many people don't seem to get that "I got into this field so I could interact with computers, not people" is supposed to be a joke.
psunavy03··on LLM Problems Observed in Humans
Few things enrage me like the smell of cannabis on the highway after it was legalized in my state. Sure, hypothetically, that's the passenger. But more likely than not, it's DUI.
psunavy03··on Video Game Websites in the early 00s
The problem is "fandoms" as a whole have now become such toxic hellscapes I'd rather just enjoy the game/movie/TV series myself and completely ignore what anyone else's opinion of it is.

I don't need things that bring me joy to be ruined by the most obsessive weirdos in the world.

psunavy03··on Why didn't AI “join the workforce” in 2025?
The percentage of jobs that are actually bullshit as opposed to the percentage of jobs the person making the claim thinks are bullshit merely because they are not that person's own job.

Which is, of course, conveniently never a bullshit job but a Very Important One.

psunavy03··on It's hard to justify Tahoe icons
Magic Leap 2 and HoloLens 2 proved that we still haven't cracked the code on AR/XR. Similar price point, plenty of feasible enterprise use cases for folks willing to pony up money to hire Unity or Unreal devs. And I'm sure there are enough of them tired of being flogged to death by the gaming industry. But they both went splat.

It's going to take a revolution on miniaturization AND component pricing for XR to be feasible even for enterprise use cases, it seems.

psunavy03··on Lessons from 14 years at Google
You can't expect factory workers to magically turn into nurses. Sure, people can learn new things, but human skillsets are not entirely fungible.
psunavy03··on It's hard to justify Tahoe icons
. . . so other devices are required to have the same interface? No, they're not. Just because you want to share enough design cues to make people understand they're dealing with the same brand doesn't mean you have to hammer square pegs into round holes.

Not to mention the fact that first, you have to get to a point where AR wearables are commercially viable, and we don't seem to have hit that point yet.

psunavy03··on Jensen: 'We've done our country a great disservice' by offshoring
"We" have not "decided" anything other than collectively making decisions about what we are willing to pay for a given service. That ultimately is what sets wages. The only reason software development pays so well is because the market will bear it, and the market isn't some cabal of fat cats in top hats, monocles, and tails (or hoodies and Patagonia for that matter). It's the collective decisions of 330 million people.
psunavy03··on Revisiting the original Roomba and its simple architecture
It either turns into hating that thing or a place where mildly criticizing that thing gets you banned. Or a place where telling someone they're full of it as tactfully as you can still gets you banned or your post deleted for "incivility."

Reddit is a weird place that is not real life.

psunavy03··on Why do Americans hate A.I.?
AI today is like the internet in 1999. It will eventually become useful, but we need to crash out of the hype phase first.
psunavy03··on Why do Americans hate A.I.?
Especially lately, it seems to be fashionable to dump on Americans as somehow odd, weird, and afraid of things we supposedly shouldn't be. So much for "tolerance."
psunavy03··on BYD Sells 4.6M Vehicles in 2025, Meets Revised Sales Goal
"Drinking alcohol" does not necessarily equate to "getting drunk." At least if you're a grown adult and not in undergrad anymore.
psunavy03··on BYD Sells 4.6M Vehicles in 2025, Meets Revised Sales Goal
I'm glad I don't live in a place where one beer would cause that. Several, yes, that's certainly an issue. But so much of the world seems to have lost the ability to be reasonable in favor of black-and-white thinking.

For those without religious objections or addictions, one glass of beer or wine with a meal is a complete nothingburger. Yes, it technically impairs your reaction times, but not enough to be a crime.

psunavy03··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
This entire comment is conflating "overregulation" with "no regulation" when these are not at all the same things.

Oh, and with an extra seasoning of Murica Bad on the side.

psunavy03··on Jimmy Lai Is a Martyr for Freedom
Communism as such has never existed and will never exist because it ignores human nature. Private property rights are a fundamental tenet of human psychology.

But hey, in defiance of 100+ years of failed attempts, if you want to see Politburos putting people in gulags again for being counterrevolutionaries . . . sure, give it another go.

Capitalism is the worst economic system that has ever been tried . . . except for all the others.

psunavy03··on Waymo halts service during S.F. blackout after causing traffic jams
I had a classmate in the military whose old car got t-boned and so he went and bought a used white Ford Crown Victoria (for the non-US folks, used to be the most common US police car ~10-15 years ago).

He had funny stories about people slowing down to the speed limit and pulling over to the right lane on the freeway.
