psnehanshu··on JavaScript state machines and statecharts
Does anyone know of a beginner friendly guide to State machines? I would love to try it out.
psnehanshu··on JavaScript state machines and statecharts
Looks like Lucy compiles down to XState.
psnehanshu··on The JavaScript ecosystem is delightfully weird
Sounds like you haven't worked on a production javascript project yet.

psnehanshu··on Ask HN: Why Is My Scraping So Slow?
Idk how cloudflare rate limiting can impact this unless the webflow site is behind cloudflare? Can it be removed?

It may also be that webflow rate limits bot traffic? Try spoofing the user agent with a popular browser's[1].

But why scrape? Webflow allows to export the code[2]. But it may still require premium subscription, I haven't looked thoroughly.

psnehanshu··on Microsoft broke a Chrome feature to promote Edge
It's a reminder that both of them are the bad guys.
psnehanshu··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
When I started learning code and to build websites, I felt it very cumbersome to login into cpanel and upload PHP files. Hence I built my own file manager called HostBrowser[1]. It was a single PHP script. It had a lot of functionality that a lot of advanced file mangers have, like copy paste, compress files to Zip, extract Zip, copy-paste, directly download file from remote server, a code editor. The UI was inspired by that of phpLiteAdmin[2].

psnehanshu··on Deploying key transparency at WhatsApp
Apparantly `onMessageReceived()` is called only when the app is in foreground.
psnehanshu··on Deploying key transparency at WhatsApp
WhatsApp doesn't have a persistent notification though.

> when the phone starts the user has to first start the app though

Just tested this and this is not the case with WhatsApp. I am on a Samsung and I am not sure if WhatsApp get's any special treatment.

psnehanshu··on Deploying key transparency at WhatsApp
For that the app must be in foreground. How does WhatsApp manage to be always on the foreground? My app always gets killed by Android.

psnehanshu··on Launch HN: Inri (YC W23) – Wealthfront for Investing in India
There's been a lot of improvements since then. Checkout apps like ET Money, Groww, Zerodha Coin. It's really easy to start SIP in India and the tech is good and modern.

>I have no time for patriotism or tribalism. While I'm aware we don't live in a single global society, that's what I believe our ideal should be (A kind of Star Trek society), and that's what I want to work towards. Petty tribalism is very much at odds with that.

Tribalism has existed since day 1 of human civilization and it has shaped the world we live in today. Your ideal world is a bluff.

psnehanshu··on Types in JavaScript with Zod and JSDoc
That's quite cool. If only we had a typechecker like

  tsc --noEmit
to quickly check type errors in the whole project just to be sure that nothing broke in any file due to my change.

psnehanshu··on New React docs pretend SPAs don't exist anymore
Yeah, it's like a trade off. You can't have your cake and eat it too. With CSR, you distribute the load of rendering to your clients, which reduces your cost, which in turn allows you to provide better service.
psnehanshu··on New React docs pretend SPAs don't exist anymore

I will love to have something like CRA-Webpack+Vite.
psnehanshu··on New React docs pretend SPAs don't exist anymore
There's nothing wrong. But the commentator perhaps isn't aware that PHP isn't enough to write complex and interactive apps.
