I like to think that I know how to program with objects, when in fact I don't. I work with the front end and dream of dom elemets. I like the trendy as well as the classic.

psidium··on Software development is a loser’s game
Honestly it is hard going from no code-coverage to a rule of at least x% of code coverage. Instead of adding a blunt rule I went with something different:

Some years ago I've implemented a check to fail the PRs if the lines touched on that PR don't have code coverage (delta-coverage = 100%). We aligned internally with all the affected developers and went with it. We defined that the rule is that 100% of the code needs to be covered, but it doesn't mean that the rules can't have case-by-case exceptions. Whenever someone needs an exception the teams gets together and approve an exception. Sometimes it is a backlog to write the tests later, or some files that don't need unit tests altogether.

This may have worked for us because we are 5 years into this codebase and it keeps on growing, but for more small projects this may be more hassle than it is worth.

Honestly, after the first 6 months (not easy, not gonna lie) I felt better about the codebase, and I love the confidence of trying things and having unit tests all around. There were times where I submitted a PR and forgot altogether to write tests and this rule caught me.

I recommend it, but as with any software development practice, this is not a one-size-fits-all game.

psidium··on SAP Graph: API Sandbox on preview
Gosh OData is so poorly designed that the only way something like that can even think that it is relevant is if one or two paper pushers inside a big corporate company will force its devs to use it. And so they did.
psidium··on EU approves internet copyright law, including ‘link tax’ and ‘upload filter’
Oh yeah good luck trying to stop library genesis/scihub/PirateBay with that. Meanwhile everyone else doing business legally will have to suffer while the perpetrators go free.

We already have lots of tools to block user access from the EU, time to upgrade them!

The EU fail to understand that the internet is inherently free and you can’t regulate it well (unless you’re a dictatorship in China, but you have bigger issues there).

psidium··on Hollywood's support For SESTA is about filtering the Internet
GPDR has a clause that requires companies that uses data from the EU to explain exactly how they used the data and how the algorithm reach the conclusion it did. Deep Learning is currently a black box where you train it and it knows what to do, but we can't explain exactly how it did it.

Man, you (Americans) are having the time of your life in regards of Internet freedom. Net neutrality went down, SESTA, CLOUD...

And you're just about to enter a trade war with China! Talk about a shot in the foot...

I'm not saying that everywhere else is nice, i.e. Deep Learning is barely legal for commercial use in Europe with GPDR!

But man, the weather is not nice...

psidium··on How Uber's Hard-Charging Corporate Culture Left Employees Drained
Holy crap. I've seen people getting hard looks for even suggesting the project's team should stay after the 8 hours shift. Only once a manager asked me to stay, very dreaded and saying he was really sorry he had to ask me that all the time. And they paid me twice the time I've been there and my performance review skyrocketed because I came in when I didn't need to.

But I make about 15k USD (if converting currencies) so there's that haha.

psidium··on Sprig is shutting down
Same. My mind went from "how da hell will people do java" to "oh I didn't even know this startup"
psidium··on How Anker is beating Apple and Samsung at their own accessory game
Bought a Lightning Powerline+ cable 4 months ago. While Apple's Lightning can feel a little premium, Anker's kick their ass. It has a nice thingy to carry it and I know it won't break in the foreseeable future, different from the 5+ Apple cables I already broke in some 3 years. Also, their power banks are really good as well.

Been using NuBank for about 8 months and I must say, it is the best bank experience I've ever had. They put great effort into every aspect of their business. From the mobile app to the customer experience, it's perfect! (Now that I've promoted you please raise my limit amount - haha jk)
