pseudometa··on Chevrolet Bolt EV Is the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year
Tesla design and formulates the batteries. Panasonic puts them together.
pseudometa··on Chevrolet Bolt EV Is the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year
Tesla's battery tech is developed by Tesla. Panasonic is the manufacturing partner. Like Apple & Foxcon.
pseudometa··on No One Saw Tesla’s Solar Roof Coming
Yes, yes they are... they are far more durable than their counterparts. Remember there are may types of glass, including 'bullet proof glass'.

Perhaps it is encouraging then to see this first go of it be for transporting cargo rather than people.

pseudometa··on Google Profits Surge on Strong Ad Demand
Sometimes I click ads just to give money to Google.
pseudometa··on Year-long road trip where it's 70°F every day in North America
Don't people travel? I have lived all over the country and currently love living in San Diego because I can visit areas of the country enjoying the seasons for a week at a time. A week of raking leaves, a week of shoveling and scraping windows. And even in LA, the mountains are less than an hour dive away. They can experience all 4 seasons in less than an hour drive.
pseudometa··on Next Silicon Valley (list)
Ugg, this is simply a list of cities cited in News Articles as being "The Next Silicon Valley". This isn't actually an article itself.
pseudometa··on Tesla Tests Self-Driving Functions with Secret Updates to Its Customers’ Cars
The networked transportation sensor suite is insanely valuable and it seems to completely be overlooked by both competitors and investors. Between this, the energy storage business, and obviously the vehicles, I am excited to see what they can do.
pseudometa··on Tesla Tests Self-Driving Functions with Secret Updates to Its Customers’ Cars
As Anderson mentions in the talk, these features are rolled out in regular opt-in updates. Updates are not happening behind the scenes at some random time, although the article seems to imply that might be the case.
pseudometa··on Tesla Tests Self-Driving Functions with Secret Updates to Its Customers’ Cars
As Sterling Anderson mentions at the beginning of his talk, all updates are opt-in. There isn't anything "Secret" about that part. Video: http://events.technologyreview.com/emtech/digital/16/video/w...
pseudometa··on Tesla Tests Self-Driving Functions with Secret Updates to Its Customers’ Cars
I believe that these 'inert' features are installed with regular software updates and simply not activated while they are tested.
pseudometa··on Tesla Tests Self-Driving Functions with Secret Updates to Its Customers’ Cars
This article takes a lot of liberty in promoting the idea that "secret updates" are actually a thing. Sterling Anderson simply says “We will often install an ‘inert’ feature on all our vehicles worldwide,” And from that, the author makes it out as some nefarious endeavor.
pseudometa··on Mapping Neighborhood-Level Obesity in the United States
I get the feeling they could simply interchange income maps for obesity maps and no one would know which is which.

pseudometa··on Tesla’s Elon Musk Says Autonomous Driving Not All That Hard to Achieve
It has been interesting to see how many friends and relatives have an initial "Why would I trust a driverless car on the road" reaction until I point out the idiocy of "other" drivers on the road. People believe they are the best drivers, yet readily agree that everyone else shouldn't be driving.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the progression of this. Seems like it could be the next big change to society norms.

pseudometa··on Ask HN: Why would I want to pay with my phone?
Why would you want to use a credit card over cash, or checks?

There are certain advantages. Not in all cases, but having it as an additional option may afford additional security, anonymity, and faster transactions.

pseudometa··on Why even mid-sized trading firms are hurting
For companies who are paid to analyze and predict the future, it seems they should have seen this coming from the outset.
pseudometa··on An Open Letter to Tim Cook Regarding the App Store 70/30 Revenue Split
The barrier to entry is the annual $100 developer fee, not the percentage of sales. I honestly wouldn't mind this fee being much much higher if the eliminated a lot of the crummy apps from the store.
pseudometa··on An Open Letter to Tim Cook Regarding the App Store 70/30 Revenue Split
From a aspiring indie developer perspective, I've never worried about the 70/30 split.

I've been much more concerned with getting my apps visible to anyone. The app store is so flawed when it comes to discoverability (even as a user it is frustrating to find apps that solve a need) I would give up even more share if people could find my app to begin with.

pseudometa··on Ask HN: I got let go this morning. What should I do next?
1) Sign up for unemployment. It takes a little while to start getting checks, but it will help extend your savings.

2) Relax a bit and get your head together.

3) Go on a trip (you'll be starting from scratch at a new company, so use the time for a bit of a vacation)

4) Polish your resume & LinkedIn profile

5) Broaden your horizons geographically and interview at lots of different locations around the country and choose something you love.

pseudometa··on San Diego Hacker News Meetup 58 Tomorrow (1/30)
Having been to many of these, they are enjoyable and cover an incredibly wide gamut of topics. It is great to see the invite upvoted.
pseudometa··on Apple’s Dev Agreement Means No EFF Mobile App for iOS
This comes across as though they never intended to make an app for the app store and all along just wanted to call out apple on their term sheet. It is purely a moral stance. Which is fine, but the article is slanted differently.

pseudometa··on Drone flown 20ft from landing Heathrow jet
The makers of such radio controlled deviced call them drones. It doesn't really pertain to 'self guiding' anymore.
pseudometa··on Graph everything with Graphite
How awesome would it be if they hired a great visual designer to add some polish to the overall look of the graphs and software.
pseudometa··on Robots, Not Humans, Fake 23% of Web Video Ad Views, Study Finds
Ultimately, as long as advertisers see a positive return and receive value for their money, click-fraud continue. Once that changes, then advertisers will take their money elsewhere. Until then profit margins will just keep getting smaller and smaller.
