psbp··on Google's project to 'cure death', Calico, announces $1.5B research center
Why cite the Verge instead of the source: http://www.calicolabs.com/news/2014/09/03/ or the original reporting: http://recode.net/2014/09/03/google-backed-calico-to-launch-... ?
psbp··on AnandTech Publisher Anand Shimpi Headed to Apple
I haven't seen anyone do that. It's truly an indefensible position given Anand's track record.
psbp··on How Marvel Became the Envy and Scourge of Hollywood
"I didn't find the CGI distracting, nor is Rocket treated like Jar Jar Binks (he is actually one of the more "serious" characters). Although I will admit that Groot (the tree) has some Jar Jar Binks style moments, but it isn't as distracting/jarring as Episode 1."

It's really sad that the star wars prequels may have hampered the adventure/scifi genre for the better part of a decade.

I have no problem with the gimmicky, comic-relief character if there's some actual substance there.

psbp··on How Marvel Became the Envy and Scourge of Hollywood
I think you're safe watching Iron Man, the Avengers, Captain America 2, and maybe GOTG (I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things). I would skip SHIELD. It's just a B sci-fi series that's inflated by its association with the Marvel universe.
psbp··on Google to Collect Data to Define Healthy Human
"I'm excited to know which diets, exercises and lifestyle define a healthy human"

The thrust of this approach (as mentioned in the article) is that they're searching for the magic of optimal biomolecular processes, not necessarily a universal regimen.

psbp··on Josh Topolsky of The Verge Is Joining Bloomberg
Nilay is more likely than Topolsky to make the Verge a lifestyle magazine. He has a very limited taste in gadgets and I've never seen him broach technology topics in a very insightful way.

He wrote a bunch of aggressive 'state of the internet' op-eds that were praised, but they didn't seem to be anything more than popular rallying-cries for semi-knowledgeable tech enthusiasts.

psbp··on Josh Topolsky of The Verge Is Joining Bloomberg
I'm not sure if they've ever had a good record for accurate technology stories. I stopped reading them sometime last year when I noticed how often their articles were inaccurate or just outright false for the sake of click throughs.
psbp··on Large Round of Layoffs Expected at Microsoft
Let's be honest, Facebook has a much more efficient product, and by that I mean the product does most of the work for them.
psbp··on Google on Glass Backlash: 'Messy' But Worth It
This sounds exactly like the bygone panic over cameras on mobile phones.
psbp··on Apple Teams Up With IBM for Enterprise Push
It should be noted that Knox is being baked into AOSP, so it's presumably in Google's hands now.
psbp··on Google+ now lets you use any name you want
Yonatan Zunger claims that Vic Gundotra approved the change.
psbp··on Larry Page and Sergey Brin with Vinod Khosla [video]
I think Sergey was walking Larry's answer back in order to not seem so radical.
psbp··on Top designers react to Google’s new ‘Material’ design language
I remember thinking that Apple would introduce "ink"-like effects at some point after seeing their new design in iOS 7. I'm surprised that Google did it first, and actually did a great job with it.
psbp··on Android without the mothership
Apple seems to have done fine in both examples.
psbp··on LG G Watch
I always thought that Google Now was built (in part) for devices like wearables.

Do you think Apple's device interface won't involve swiping?

psbp··on Google I/O 2014
They lost two of their best presenters over the past year: Vic Gundotra, Hugo Barra
psbp··on Open Automotive Alliance
Wasn't Toyota one of the initial partners? What happened to them?
psbp··on Google I/O 2014
She mentioned being evicted, so probably housing.
psbp··on Google I/O 2014
It's great design, but I got really excited for a new screen technology.
psbp··on Nest is acquiring Dropcam
It's probably more dependent on the volume of customers for all these data companies.
psbp··on Amazon Fire Phone
He might be talking about the Moto G or E. The Nexus 5 is more mid-tier.
psbp··on YouTube to block indie labels who don't sign up to new music service
"The BBC understands that even if blocks do go ahead, content from artists signed to independent labels will remain available on YouTube via channels such as Vevo."

This completely changes the issue altogether.

How did the Guardian misreport this so badly?

psbp··on YouTube to block indie labels who don't sign up to new music service
I can't find a source for it, so I'll just delete it.
psbp··on Who Gets to Graduate?
Universities should weigh the first semester less and cap the number of hours taken. I know plenty of people who fucked up their first semester due to culture shock/feelings of isolation.
psbp··on Zuckerberg, Nadella and Other Executives Ask Senate to Restrain NSA Spying
It's funny to see sites highlight specific CEOs. It seems to say something about their viewpoint or possibly their target demographic.
psbp··on Google to close Motorola smartphone factory in Texas
I doubt Lenovo would appreciate a contract in a market they're not necessarily interested in pursuing.
psbp··on Google to close Motorola smartphone factory in Texas
You realize that Motorola has been sold to Lenovo, an asian company?
psbp··on From Poverty to Prosperity: A conversation with Bill Gates [pdf]
I kind of agree, but providing a poverty threshold was probably the worst thing to happen to our welfare system. It's a completely exploitable concept and is much less equitable than other (perhaps more invasive) quality standards.
psbp··on From Poverty to Prosperity: A conversation with Bill Gates [pdf]
His recommendations seem ridiculous. Why force employment when it offers no real return except keeping an anachronistic standard of 40 hr/week employment?
psbp··on A First Look at How Google's Self-Driving Car Handles City Streets
This would be a great ecological experiment.
