profeta··on The Monaco Code Editor
you see github is dead when even microsoft moves faster than they do.

Still waiting to be able to have decent by 1970 standards code diff on their site.

profeta··on Branding Vice
I call it the "Wired Style".
profeta··on Scammers Game Amazon A-Z Policy By Replacing iPhones With Clay
given the amount of garbage amazon sells nowadays, if it didn't favoured the buyer they would be gone by now.

Almost everything i buy that is not books i have to return once or twice until i receive the item from a seller that is not trying to fence a couterfeit version. This happens with $100 pro SD cards down to $15 arduinos clones (which i think amazon still do not carry the original, but all ads show the original in the picture)

profeta··on Make for hipsters
This tutorial is awful.

You should read the manual, which is shorter than that page!

make is NOT:

    alias:
        commands
this will bite you when you least expect. Make is:

    targetfile: inputfiles
commands to get targetfile to exist
and you can use things like

    %.css_min: %.css
        sass stuff

    .PHONY: release
    # above is needed otherwise you won't build if there is a release/ dir
    release: release-min.css

release-min.css: (list *.css_min files, there are helpers for it)
        cat *.css_min > release-min.css

anyway. you get the idea. work with files and why you need those files.
profeta··on Go Debian: Writing Debian tooling in Go
in what seems to be a brand new implementation (though i failed to find source links) instead of using the 2 or 3 readily available C apis that can be ingested easily in tons of languages?
profeta··on Home Depot Files Antitrust Lawsuit Against Visa, MasterCard
...until they do.
profeta··on VPAID ads destroy performance and are still served by major ad networks
keep in mind that the alternative for flash is downloading a script from who knows where and running it on the same scope as the page. for each ad.

it is the exact same thing. No matter if they moved away from flash or not. they still would have full control of your site and be able to do what they want just the same. They only have to copy and paste javascript instead of actionscript.

profeta··on Obama races to cement the TPP deal that all his potential successors oppose
as with any of those things, it all depends on the specific of which industry you are, your size, your market, etc.

there is absolutely no way you can say it is better for one side or another.

profeta··on What Urbit is
form the site, i get the feeling that to use urbit i have to be a programmer and a theoretical mathematician... but i confess i did not waste much time on it yet.
profeta··on Court Says Remastered Old Songs Get a Brand New Copyright
if pandora et al remaster the songs they stream, do they only have to pay the song writers and not a cent to the publishers?

that is awesome. (if it weren't just a law backdoor for the exact opposite)

profeta··on Does Silicon Valley have a racism problem?
but let's blame it on a "pipeline problem"
profeta··on Oil Traders May Be the Only Ones Who Want Yahoo to Survive
you forgot they are running a multi trillion dollar industry on free-as-in-beer software.

I doubt they would pay $5 per user. or even a <your yearly salary> year flat fee.

and since they will not pay, you will have to run it on ads. And supporting online/mobile offerings (that do not have their requirement of local client/local logs) will always give you more money.

it is a lose/lose situation.

profeta··on What Urbit is
so it is a place that will centralize all my credentials so it can fetch and parse my mail, IMs, stock trades, files, etc to then inter-process that to my liking and possible talk to a client on my phone or such?

why a chain of specialized posix programs would fail for that?

profeta··on Regressive Web Apps
you are probably too young to remember the time when using <script type="javascript1.2"> was bold and bleeding edge. (probably got the syntax wrong, because, well, that what happens to memory when you are not too young)
profeta··on Google Allo and Duo, new messaging apps
And yet another feature-limited non-standard IM solutions to alienate everyone even more.
profeta··on Google Allo and Duo, new messaging apps
Features only an engineer could think of.

i can imagine clicking even once on the preset responses and then receiving a barrage of curses from the other side from having used it.

profeta··on Analyzing stock-based compensation for Twitter and Facebook employees
journalist get's 5 numbers and keeps massaging them ad nausea
profeta··on Gentoo Tesla – T2 Edition
nah. people have been modding throttle bodies and adding short shift to their cars for ages.

it is the same thing.

profeta··on Uber wants access to browsing history, bookmarks, and running apps
i am a technical user and i don't drive. so why even have roads?
profeta··on Uber wants access to browsing history, bookmarks, and running apps
> system is broken and UI is confusing, protect nothing from user even if working right.

> leave system broken but hide UI so nobody cares.

hopefully, it is just incompetence, not evil.

profeta··on Post-Mortem for Google Compute Engine’s Global Outage on April 11
why do you think that will wait for cars? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therac-25
profeta··on FBI paid professional hackers one-time fee to crack San Bernardino iPhone
Code is not a weapon. bad analogy.

Also, LA gangs used EV cars for modern drive-by's. Should EV cars now have a "gun tax"?

profeta··on FBI paid professional hackers one-time fee to crack San Bernardino iPhone
are you living under a rock for the last 10 years?

here, first google result for the "ios location data": http://bgr.com/2015/04/01/iphone-location-tracking-map/

profeta··on Goldman Sachs Finally Admits It Defrauded Investors During the Financial Crisis
for small fish, the law say that you must first return any gain, and then pay the fine plus damages.
profeta··on Rendering React without browser JavaScript
love how your comment was downvoted to oblivion and yet, the thread went on and on.

the irony indeed.

profeta··on Rendering React without browser JavaScript
> "hashbang" URLs (they call them Escaped Fragment URLs)

why not use the RFC terms? https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3986#section-3 "url fragment"

Also, it won't help you on server side rendering since the server will never even see it on the request.

profeta··on Save Netflix
Wow. the whole thread here one have a single top-level comment, with a completely wrong understanding of the issue. (and yes, the title of the linked article is awful)
profeta··on Mutt 1.6
you can have that again: bbm priv.

An android phablet with a full hardware keyboard.

profeta··on Mutt 1.6
most desktop clients (mutt included) almost died when everyone moved to gmail and such. imap/pop access was too expensive (when compared to having a so-so UI for free) or not available.

now that gmail and yahoomail give imap for free, they will surely comeback. see N1 for example.

profeta··on Mutt 1.6
not the commenter you want, but i had both a mobile client (if i am using mutt, that means i can access the imap/pop server from other clients) and the ultimate ssh client on my phone which gave me full mutt, in case i needed to have my procmail filters helping me)
