pricci··on We don't need data scientists, we need data engineers
And where would you recommend someone to start a data engineering path. Any book, learning source?
pricci··on Asahi Linux: Linux on Apple Silicon project
I remember it was because geohot "jailbreaked" the PS3 using the Linux capabilities to some extent.

But I could be wrong.

pricci··on Show HN: OpenScan – open-source document scanner app
I like that you are using Flutter. Will give a look at the code.

The image quality is not good, but probably due to my camera. CS CamScanner gives me better results but I don't trust it.

pricci··on German Startup’s “AI Expert Roadmap” Gets 3.5k GitHub Stars
The subject GitHub repo: https://github.com/AMAI-GmbH/AI-Expert-Roadmap

Interactive site (links to useful material for each topic): https://i.am.ai/roadmap

pricci··on GitHub Source Code Leak
I think this is related to the fact that you can push to GitHub as another user and make the commit appear as it is part of another repo.

After the youtube-dl event many people became aware of those "hacks" because someone used it to "upload youtube-dl into the DMCA's repo".

Since those hacks are known by GitHub but they won't fix it, someone thought that the best way to "protest" against the decition was to push GH's source into the DMCA's repo impersonating GH's CEO.

That's my theory, a protest.

edit: DMCA

pricci··on Raspberry Pi 400 Desktop PC
I know it's a niche, but I would love to have a trackpoint on it.
pricci··on Soylent isn’t Healthy (2017)
I thought the same while reading the article. My understanding is that carbohydrates are not really bad, especially unrefined ones.

Examine.com has this to say: https://examine.com/nutrition/awful-nutrition-myths/#summary...

At the end of the day, no one knows I guess.

pricci··on Kb: A minimalist hacker-oriented knowledge base manager
What's your setup?
pricci··on The 'brushing' scam that's behind mystery parcels
Maybe the book seller sent several books to different locations expecting that someone would end up paying for it?
pricci··on Derek Sivers and the Art of Enough
Just listened to this episode in [The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish] podcast.

#88 Derek Sivers: Innovation Versus Imitation

pricci··on Breach exposed more than one million DNA profiles on a major genealogy database
I think it was like this:

Millions of GEDMatch accounts where opted in to share info with the police, without consent. Also, user emails where leaked, which lead to a phishing attack targeting MyHeritage users. 16 of them fell for it and they passwords were stolen.

pricci··on Learning operating system development using Linux kernel and Raspberry Pi
I'm interested in that book but I can't tell if I can follow along using a RPi Zero or I need a specific version. Can't find a preview of the book.
pricci··on Trilium Notes: Markdown autoformat personal knowledge base
Thanks, that's really interesting
pricci··on How does the Gmail unsubscribe button work?
I'm always fearful of clicking unsubscribe. It's a way of telling the spammer "hey, this email is really used by a real human, spam the hell out of me"
pricci··on Trilium Notes: Markdown autoformat personal knowledge base
This is a good idea, the problem is that I use an e-reader. It has a keyboard but taking notes in it isn't really convenient.
pricci··on Trilium Notes: Markdown autoformat personal knowledge base
I would love to explore someone else's library of notes. I really don't know how to take effective notes. When I start reading a new book I try to take notes but always end up just reading. The problem is that months after I can't remember much.
pricci··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
There was a time when this worked great.

Now I feel like many doesn't work on Google

pricci··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
FSearch is an equivalent for Linux.

pricci··on Ask HN: What are your favorite low-coding apps / tools as a developer?
Thanks for this! I will add it to a project.
pricci··on Ask HN: What are your favorite low-coding apps / tools as a developer?
Hey, thanks for the adapter. It works great! I'm using it in 2 small projects.
pricci··on Ask HN: What do you use to keep track of bookmarks/notes/snippets?
Notion would be a great tool for me, but the lack of a desktop client for Linux and a usable client for Android makes it useless.
pricci··on ReMarkable’s redesigned e-paper tablet is more powerful and more papery
This seems great and the price is much more achievable now. I personally can't read PDF books from a normal screen. I need paper.

I own a Kindle DX but the screen is not big enough and the software is showing its age.

The fact that you can even use a pencil I this device is a big plus.

pricci··on Ask HN: What automation tools have you used to replace mundane activities?
Now that you mention IFTTT. I've recently visited their website and found out it has a web hook "if". An http endpoint where you can GET/POST data and trigger actions on it.
pricci··on Brave Isn't Bad
The thing is that, in my experience, Brave does not embeds ads on the creator's page. It shows system alerts with the ads.
pricci··on The modern web is becoming unusable
> The cookie popups [...] come back every few days if you didn't opt in.

Isn't that the expected behaviour?

pricci··on Show HN: I built a newsletter that sends you cheap weekend trips from your city
Nice. How do you decide if a trip is "cheap"? Do you track an average or have a threshold?
pricci··on If you care about user privacy, don’t use Facebook JavaScript SDK
I don't think so. If you serve the library yourself (don't use an external CDN to load it) there shouldn't be any connections to 3rd parties, at least I've never seen one in the 'network' tab of my browser's dev tools.

Also, I want to believe that, being open source, people would already discovered something fishy.

pricci··on My Favourite Git Commit
I also use something like this. A variation of Angular's commit convention[1]. There are tools like commitizen[2] that can help new adopters to build commit messages.

pricci··on Gatsby raises $15M Series A for its modern web development platform
I'm missing something from the picture I guess, but what service they offer for 50 bucks/month if you could host your static page built with Gatsby literaly anywhere for much less / free?
