pravj··on Show HN: Get notified when a new repository is created in a GitHub organisation
GitHub doesn't allow a user to follow an organization. As a result, users don't get to see the activity done by that particular organization.

I have tried creating a small solution (refer to the link) for the same, and it uses GitHub as a distribution channel.

- You need to create an issue (in the linked repository) with the link to that organization.

- If a new repository is created, the thread will be updated (every 12 hours) with the link to the new repository.

- Check the list of issues if the organization is already subscribed or not.

pravj··on Ask HN: Show Us Your Personal Website/Blog?
Website: https://hackpravj.com Blog: https://hackpravj.com/blog

I write about explorable explanations from a software engineering perspective, going after a particular problem and explaining it using either data or a solution.

For example, my recent article was about solving Google AI's game Semantris using Computer Vision. https://hackpravj.com/blog/solving-semantris-opencv-word2vec...

This year I've decided to write about my learnings in products. I've my first topic in making, will try to publish it as soon as I get time.

pravj··on “The 's' is sad”: 4-year-old submits Linux kernel doc patch (2014)
Feel the same way about my contribution to the Go language. :)
pravj··on Space station leak caused by drill, not meteorite
Related to that, currently reading the book "DRAGONFLY: NASA AND THE CRISIS ABOVE MIR", there was a fire event at the station and Russian space personals circulated in the media that it was just a 10-second fire.
pravj··on Create a simple cross-platform desktop game with Go
Wasn't aware of the mentioned "webview" wrapper[1], considering to use it for a side project.

Reminds me of the time I created an improved version of the "8-puzzle"[1] game in Go to learn about "channels" and "goroutines". Especially, the use of "select" statement for listening on multiple channels for the main event loop.

pravj··on Show HN: Fo: An experimental language which adds generics on top of Go
Didn't know that the compiler itself isn't using the same packages after going in a bootstrapped fashion.

Using the existing packages is a great approach as I think that Go standard library has one of the best packages supported for AST/lexing/parsing family, in comparison to Python and Ruby. Haven't worked with Rust.

pravj··on Ask HN: Pros and cons of working at a startup in 2018?
Pro: You get to build things from scratch, I like this one most.

Con: You find yourself at the end of the work-life balance, which might not be comfortable for everyone.

It's a great initiative, today itself I was thinking if there can a common test to get a job, but then I realized companies do not just test the engineering or field knowledge.

PS: I thought refreshing the page will show an early day picture of dropbox/reddit/stripe/instacart and so on.

pravj··on Show HN: Devpen – Markdown Editor with GitHub Style
Neat and clean. Bookmarked, will give a try next time I write markdown for GitHub.

You are correct about the incompatible markdown styles on the Internet.

pravj··on Ask HN: A question about agreeing to terms and services
Asked it after noticing the second method on a website in India.
pravj··on Grab drivers in Southeast Asia are now convenience stores, too
Interesting! Indian ride-hailing giant "Ola" bought "Foodpanda" (food delivery startup) a few months back. A variant of food/snack service in the cab might be a hit in Indian metros like Bangalore and Mumbai where people are always late to the office because of traffic.
pravj··on Ask HN: What tool do you use for creating technical documentation?
Wasn't looking for web-based solutions but this one looks great. Better than Slate and README.io on some parameters.
pravj··on Ask HN: Why is nearing completion so demotivating?
Happens to me every time.

My last side project was a data-driven sport (Cricket) analytics blog (https://hackpravj.com/blog/inside-cricket). Worked on it for 8 months (every Sunday), now when it's done I don't like the way I wrapped it up.

People appreciated it, I learned multiple new things but it didn't go as per the dream (the initial motivation that helped me start it).

pravj··on Changes to the YouTube Partner Program
If you read the comments on this blog, it's interesting to see youtubers asking for subscribers in return, "sub for sub".

I won't wonder if we see a solution soon to provide fraudulent subscribers like Instagram/Twitter ecosystem has. (not sure if it exists)

And then I will wait for Google to fight the subscriber (vote) ring pattern.

pravj··on Show HN: “Statements and State”, the next chapter of my book on interpreters
I am loving this book so far, always wanted a resource with such details and a 1:1 session like feeling.

Also, to enforce an extra layer of learning, I am writing the interpreter in Go. (book uses Java and C)

    https://github.com/pravj/glox
The "satisfactory" part is, I've started applying the learning to other problems (writing a transpiler, completely different from the book's context), despite being in the middle of the book.
pravj··on Movix.ai – Movie Recommendations with Deep Learning
OK, that's cool.

But, instead of using some space for the same blob, I would have considered adding a NUMBER to convey the same.

pravj··on Movix.ai – Movie Recommendations with Deep Learning
On that note, this can go upto N (a large number).

https://ibb.co/n5fFwQ

pravj··on Movix.ai – Movie Recommendations with Deep Learning
Looks amazing, the interface is slick too.

By the way, I was able to add a same movie to my 'like list' twice. (Snapshot [1])

pravj··on Show HN: Prophetly, Interactive Time Series Forecasting Using Prophet and Plotly
I started building this to learn React and Flux.

For now, it's in "Alpha" stage, you can upload a "csv" file and select the "datestamp" column and the "y" column (with numeric values) you want to predict and it will generate interactive charts in browser.

Please let me know if you have any feature requirements or issue.

https://github.com/Prophetly

pravj··on Show HN: Check if you added licenses to your GitHub repos
Awesome. I made a CLI tool (lisense)[1] to add licenses to repositories when you are developing them.

[1] https://github.com/pravj/lisense

pravj··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
I'm working on an open source "interactive time series forecasting app"[0] powered by Prophet[1] and Plotly[2].

I aim to make it a fully featured front-end to the Prophet forecasting tool released by Facebook's Data Science group.

I loved Prophet at first sight and thought it can be a goto solution to the problem, so I have decided to use Plotly's interactive charting and React's declarative programming for the performance.

It's still in the development phase for now, my next task is to enable installation through NPM or PIP.

pravj··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2016)
The URL for 'Data Science Engineer' is wrong, giving a 404. It should be https://unata.com/careers/data-science-engineer/
pravj··on How to get hired at a startup when you don't know anyone
Yeah, agree with you.

Although it was not that I stole some secret key or something.

It was just that there was data in public, and I used it for good.

pravj··on How to get hired at a startup when you don't know anyone
I was interested in working with the Data Science team of one of India's leading e-commerce startups.

Later, I ended up doing a project[1] where I have collected and analysed the user order data from their order tracking portal.

Now I feel that they won't take me back because I kind of played like a Black-Hat instead of a White-Hat by not notifying them about the little loophole that made it possible for me.

Before this, I was an intern there and got that because of one of my past project. This method does work.
