I am one of the maintainers at SigNoz [1], an otel native open source observability platform and would love to enable our users to see telemetry data from WASM
Also, how do you compare in terms of features with DataDog's LLM monitoring product which was launched recently?

> - where do I go see the metrics? There's no "Metrics" tab the way there's a "Logs" and "Traces" tab. A "Metrics Explorer" would be great.
Great, idea. This is some thing which few users have asked for and we will be shipping this in few releases
> - when I have a plot in a dashboard and I see it is trending in the wrong direction, it would be nice to be able to create an alert directly from the chart rather than have to copy the query over.
Fair point, this is something which is also in the pipeline.
> - I'm not sure if there's a way to view only root spans in the trace viewer.
We launched a tab in the new traces explorer for this, does it not serve your use case?
> - when I add a new plot, having to start out with a blank slate is not great. Datadog defaults to a generic system.cpu query just to fill something in, I find this helpful.
We can do something like this, but we don't necessarily know the name of metrics users are sending us, wrt. DataDog which has some default. metrics which their agents generate.
Will also look into other feedbacks you have given
It is not completely solving the issue, but a starting point
If anyone wants to check our project, here’s our GitHub repo - https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz
Has all the three key signals like Metrics, Traces & logs in a single pane and it is much more cost effective compared to Datadog/NewRelic. And if you want, you can just host it your self as it is open source (https://github.com/signoz/signoz)
(PS: I am one of the maintainers)
I would say the key way we differ from Grafana stack, is that we have all metrics, traces and logs in a single application while in grafana you would have to run 2 different products for this and then work your way to make sure that the three products are able to talk to each other.
One can easily monitor their JS based frontend application in SigNoz today, but yes we are focused primarily on tying together metrics, traces and logs today - and have a pretty powerful exceptions monitoring product built on top of traces.
We don't do things like session recording etc today :)
We are not specifically focused on web app monitoring, but you should be able to monitor web app easily, esp. if you want to also monitor backend services and have frontend in JS
And, yeah - we have all the docs for self hosting - https://signoz.io/docs/install/
Docs for Angular apps - https://signoz.io/docs/tutorial/instrumenting-angular-fronte...
Since, our community is so active, it helps a lot to have a tool like Struct to summarise discussions and have it for future reference.
You may want to check out SigNoz (https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz) - we are natively built to consume data sent in OTel format, and it's the only SDK we support
I agree it was a bit rapidly evolving in early days, but now its much more mature.
You can check out our docs for distributed tracing here - https://signoz.io/docs/instrumentation/
I am one of the maintainers at SigNoz. We have come across many more horror stories around Datadog billing while interacting with our users.
We recently did a deep dive on pricing, and found some interesting insights on how it is priced compared to other products.
Datadog's billing has two key issues:
- Very complex SKU based pricing which makes it impossible to predict how much it would cost
- Custom metrics billing ($0.05 per custom metric) - we found that custom metrics can account for up to 52% of the total billing which just does not make sense
More details in the blog here with a complete spreadsheet for detailed calculation https://signoz.io/blog/pricing-comparison-signoz-vs-datadog-...

As mentioned in some other places in the thread, DataDog pricing is very unpredictable and high - and I think more open standards based solutions are the way forward which provides users more predictability and flexibility
Thanks for the point about Notebooks, we have not thought in detail on how people use that. Is it primarily to collaborate between team members when an incident happens or even when there is no incident, and you are analysing stuff
