poub··on Call to action: Deceptive marketing of Safari 4
Apple always had an arrogant marketing. It’s part of their DNA. Especially when they merely catch up with their competitors they claim to be the first, the fastest and the best.

This make sometimes difficult to understand when they truly innovate.

(The Powermac G4 at 400Mhz was supposed to be a “super computer”)

Anyways as long as Webkit is gaining users, it will also benefit to Firefox and Opera (and vice-versa).

poub··on Ask YC: Do any of you find yourself reading comments before the actual link?
Great question. I usually visit the link first then come back to the comments on Hacker News. It’s like enjoying more seeing a movie you don’t know anything about than reading critics first.

Reading the comments on hackerNews is the main reason I do not activate comments on my website. For me if a discussion needs to happen, it should be where the people found the link. So if you post your link on reddit, HackerNews, Digg, etc. you end up having focused discussions. Each one having a much better quality than mixing every point of view in one place (the comment thread of the website).

Have good day. Thibault

poub··on On Leaky Abstractions and Objective-J
As a graphic designer I can tell that if we could replace any transparent PNG with their bogus gamma by a simple SVG, it will make instantly any “traditional” web page more beautiful, richer yet simpler and faster. I see a big advantage to switch the rendering layer to SVG when appropriate and on the fly. And I don’t see Flash being an alternative for this. So Cappucino really kick ass for me. At the end of the day we’re still dealing with pixels. But with monitors at 200ppi or more, it’s not a viable option, we need to use vectors, proper mathematics and abstraction layers.
poub··on Flip Title ( ǝlʇıʇ dılɟ) : write upside down
That’s very cool indeed. However it doesn’t work well with my survival utf-8 characters: The flip of à é è ç ô “ ” ‘ ’ € £ is £ € ’ ‘ ” “ ô ç è é à Great idea nonetheless.
poub··on Pixels per Inch formula: PPI=sqrt(Width^2+Height^2)/Diagonal. Your screen is obsolete.
Thanks for your comments. I’ve updated the post accordingly. I’m still waiting a 300ppi screen as large as an A4 or A3 paper.
